Need advice from people who know how to work on 360's

I bought a 360 Slim 250 gig off craigslist for $20 bucks that will not read discs. The tray opens like normal and the case has never been opened. When you put a game in it says reading but doesnt load. How can i tell which drive I have and will cleaning or replacing the laser more than likely fix the issue?
 
I had the Open Tray error in February of this year and in my case, it was actually a pretty simple fix. I opened up the 360 and took apart the DVD drive. The laser had somehow slid off the circular area that reads discs, so all I had to do was slide the laser along its rails back towards the center where it belongs. It's worked perfect since. Now your issue could certainly be a problem with a faulty laser but I'd check to make sure it's positioned properly first. If your laser's in the proper place, then I'd try cleaning it with some rubbing alcohol and see if it helps.

If your 360 is still messed up after this, you'll probably need a new laser or DVD drive. This image shows you how to identify which DVD drive you have.
 
You still did good even if the system is rubbish. The 250GB HDD is worth 3-5x what you paid.
