Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit - Criterion's NFS Reboot - Out Now

Damn it's been a while since I booted this game up. I'm caught up with ME2 and some other single player games. I bet my Autolog is wrecked!
Are the weather effects purely cosmetic (rain/snow) or do they affect handling?
It affects handling (I think) - the roads are slicker and drifting is a little tougher to control.

Damn - I just realized that it is going to take a while to level up to 20 for both Racer and Cop. I just crossed 1,000,000 points for the Racer which means I'm only 1/2 way there!! I've been playing every night for an hour for like 3 weeks!!!

You get a bonus for topping your speedwall each time you race. Nothing against Spybreaker, but if you friend him you can pretty much forget about getting that bonus the vast majority of the game. If not for him, I'd probably be close to lvl 20 instead of sitting at 14 right now :) It is always nice to have times to shoot for beating though.

I am slowly getting back into this game only to remember why I stopped. I am as good as I can possibly be right now and it's not good enough to get Gold on all of the races. There are some courses now where I don't crash, I handle every turn pretty good, I take a few shortcuts and I'm STILL 3+ seconds off of the Gold Medal time. So frustrating.

the last few times i've played this the game has froze on loading screens right before playing a multiplayer game.

hehehehe What can I say I'm a:

But really I've golded every race so all I've got is recommendations from autolog. Haven't tried multiplayer but I doubt it would work well with my satellite connection.

I hardly play the SP, but I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed a drop in the availability of MP lobbies? It seems a lot harder to get a HP game going even mid-evening.

Couldn't find an online game at all last night. I tried Hot Pursuit and racing modes. I went into every category of cars and nothing. I wish they'd just make a quick match regardless of car class.
Also what opens new events at each location? Is it your level or a certain amount of medals? I have some areas where I have gold on the three open events but the next 3 aren't available.

Feel free to add me if you want to do some online matches (XBL: Shinobi Hanzo). I've not played the game since last Dec., so I imagine I'd be pretty terrible, but I do need to do onlines to get the achievements, so I'm down for some races.

So I want to get back into the NFS series. Not too interested in Carbon or Shift. Really loved Most Wanted. I mean love love loved it. Is this the much better than that? How was Undercover?

Yeah, Most Wanted is the one NFS that has the most favor I believe. I think Undercover was fun if you take into account how crappy the story and FMVs are. The challenges and old school NFS racing is still present.

If you liked Burnout or high speed chases Hot Pursuit is def a game you'll like. It's a great racing game and with the social aspect will keep you playing for a while. I loved Most Wanted but I feel Hot Pursuit is a better NFS game. You might actually like Undercover if you can find it cheap, like I did.
