Need help in buying books for college

half.com and amazon.com are the way to go

one other piece of advice

sometimes it is good to look for the previous edition of a a textbook which you could get dirt cheap

the differences are sometimes unoticeable depending on the course
 
Buying online is only worthwhile if the book is not a newer version. If its a recent release well there is not possibilty of finding used ones ( no crap aye?) I could not find any online stores that where cheaper than what was being sold at the campus book store. Even when i found it at $77 when it usually goes for 85.. shippping cost me $9... SO check and compare. I used www.textbookx.com

half.com is really cheap, but shipping takes FOREVER! That is with the media mail, cost more if you want it deliver quicker.
 
you should go to your campus bookstore, they always have great deals and sales, but just buy them new because used is a rip, they have highlights and stuff

The campus bookstore should be your last option if you can't find it cheaper anywhere else or if you need it quicker. And always get the best used version.

And like someone said before, look into the older version of the book. Ive done this twice before, on the first one I saved $55 and on the second one I saved $40.

Check with your professors if the book is a new version. The old version might only be slightly different and it will be WAY cheaper. If it's a brand new book or version, then try Amazon... half.com probably won't have that.

I got all the names of my textbooks early, and compared prices online and it turns out the competitive textbook store across the street from my university actually had decent prices. Make sure to check for that. The university bookstore though... at least at my school stay as far away as possible unless *absolutely* necessary.

I know a girl who got every one of her books (all new) AND bought the 4883154 "recommended" books, 1.5 months before the semester started. Turns out a lot of the professors didn't even require the book that was listed, much less even knew about the supposed recommended books. Ouch.
 
so my teacher has told me its alright to have an older version of the text book. The book i need to get is going to be $150 new. so i might as well find it as cheap as i can get it cuz 150 for a book is crazy.

C'mon, what the hell is wrong with a book for being a little cheaper and "pre highlighted" for you? I'm all about it.

I would think because you're less likely to be able to sell it back, or you won't get as much money. Or the highlighting is annoying. I've had used books that had pratically every line highlighted, or drawings all over them, and it was not necessary at all.

LMAO yeah right. Getting books as cheap as possible is more important to me than getting cheap games. Campus bookstores are the biggest freaking rip. I paid 90 for the calc book last semester, now they give me 5 bucks back for it? Screw them ill never buy a book from a campus book store again.

Id rather get them cheap online, then keep them or give them away to like the salvation army or something.

If it isnt one of your major or minor courses, just get an older edition. Seriously like very little changes and you save so much money. Ive had classes where i paid 60+ bucks for a book i never even read and i passed the course with a B or higher. Ill never do that again, i'll just buy an old edition online and then just go to all the classes and take notes and listen to the lectures.
 
i'm telling you right now, if you want cheap (used) books, go to www.abebooks.com. it is the only site you need for used books. i buy a lot of books, i'm a history grad student, and i always check there first.
 
Man...this is the first time I've tried getting my books online, and I didn't expect that the prices at Amazon are so high. You can still get books really cheap, but you have to deal with the fact that all of your books are going to show up at different times, and from different sellers.
