Hey guys, thanks in advance for reading and commenting...

(1) I'm basically looking for the LA Gamestop dump stores - where they send all the regional PS1, SNES, N64 etc. older used games to be sold. Does anyone have any idea which stores in LA these are?

(2) I'm also looking for the stores with the best selection of older and rarer PS2 RPGs, you know, all the NIS and Atlus ones that are gone and never reprinted once they sell out. I want to try and load up this coming 26th on their B2G1 sale.

Barring that, anyone in LA have any good pawn shop locations, goodwill/salvation army etc. locations?

How about independent game stores - I've checked out a few, including a couple of what seems to be a chain (Games for Less), but I've never found the prices on older stuff to be so good.

I've heard of the following places - can anyone recommend these places?

Games for Less - Culver City, across from the TRU
random game store in Culver City on Venice, near the Culver City BB
random game store in mid city LA on Wilshire and Highland, maybe also a Games for Less?
Game Dude in the Valley on Sherman Way I think, near the Hollywood Fwy
random game store across from the BB/GS on LaBrea and Santa Monica Blvd

Any others?

Gamedude is pretty great if you ask me.

i've never been to the others.

As for a good gamestop, I'm not entirely sure those exist. I've pretty much given up on GS. I go to goozex or Game Dude. Now and then I'll wander into a GS if I'm at a mall so I don't really know where to send you.

Game Dude though has a HUGE selection of games for every system you can imagine.

The only one of those stores I would recommend is Game Dude at this point. The Games 4 Less location in Fullerton is actually really good as well for a variety of platforms, but it requires a trip to Orange County. I think there was some kind of split a while back and the LA Games 4 Less stores are under different ownership.
The selection at most of the other stores you listed is really limited. Can't help with the Gamestop stuff as I refuse to shop there after having way too many problems with their selling of used items as new and otherwise being poorly run.

Yeah I hear you guys on Gamestop, believe me that's why I'm looking for an alternative. But if I can find 3 Atlus games I'm missing or whatever, then their B2G1 free coupon/sale becomes pretty irresistible. Otherwise I avoid them like the plague.

I should just keep up with the RPGs as they come out, as usually Fry's has them for at least $5-10 off on their release week, but I always hold off hoping and waiting they drop in price (like an idiot - DOH!), which they rarely do because of the limited print runs on the ones I (and so many others) are interested in.

And of course it's so damn hard finding them when you hear they are clearanced out at say, CC or TRU for $10 (see - Okami or SMT2, Disgaea 1/2).

Do you know if gamedude's games tend to be complete? It looks like it, judging by certain game listings. Thanks again! Hopefully they will have a lot of what I'm looking for when I go up there, though some of the prices are right up there with eBay, but what can you do.

I'd go with Gamedude also.

The place across from BB/GS in West Hollywood is a rip off. If I'm thinking of the right one it shares space with a check-cashing agency....

Yep that's the one. I never got a chance to go in because it was closed down. I thought it had gone under. I believe it or another one used to be on Melrose right by LaBrea, or somewhere around that area.

I'll definitely hit up gamedude when I'm up in the valley.

There was a high end place on Melrose that got closed down for selling modded Xboxs sometime ago. I think one of the culprits fled the country.

yes, i was going to mention gamedude, they even sell the turbografx, sega CD, neo geo AES games there. I think about 6 years ago i got Ys 1 and 2(less than $10) and chrono trigger with manual($30 at the time), The weird thing is that their old school prices flucuate. The last i checked they wanted $50 for chronotrigger. go figure.

If you are looking for a gamestop, it is inglewood. At least it used to be, a few years back i got a snes mouse for mario paint there. They had the NES and SNES games, but the selection was ass. So i figure they still have a few NES and snes, but their selection is still ass, or maybe the gamestop and EB wedsite sent a load of shit their back when they had the merger last year.

There was a store in san jose, or fresno, i forget, i think it was BRE sortware? But both gamedude and BRE have websites.

yeah i have walked past there, but they were always closed, i think it looked like a smaller store, but i cant vouch for what they sell or how good they are

LMAO, i rememeber hearing something about this. i wish i had gone in there while they were in business, for shits and giggles if nothing else.

A long time ago, i sent my ps1 out in the mail so they would mod it to play imports. I cant remember where i sent it for the life of me, but it sounded like the guy was doing the mods out of his basement( could hear a baby crying in the background when i called to find out how much it would cost to mod a ps1.)

The only drawback, was that some of the companies(square for instance) put in some sort of lockout so that the newer usa games would no longer work. I remember chrono cross didnt work.

So i had to find a work around for that, i got a dragon hacker- from buyrite of all places, and it did the trick. This has to be 10 years ago.

Gameplay, inbetween Sepulveda and Overland on Venice is a great place to look for older stuff. As mentioned Game dude has to bee the spot to head out to.

There's Game Hut at the Inglewood Marketplace aka the "swap meet." Apu (as I secretly call him) has great deals on games, always tax free if you pay cash. I've been buying from him for about 10 years or so; that's where I got one of my two Wiis from. :)
