[quote name='Gothic_Walrus']It's official: I'm not getting a job this summer.
The grocery store that had previously told me I had a job did a 180 today, telling me instead that I'm not needed anymore because they've transferred over people from closing stores. This, after they give me all of the information, have me take a drug test, and tell me to come back to set up a date for orientation.

you too.
I've tried a lot of places, and all to no avail. I've tried retail; none of the stores in the area are hiring. I've tried restaurants; again, I haven't been able to find an opening. I've tried asking my friends; all of the leads I've gotten have not worked out in the end. I've tried with the county, city, and state, and heard nothing from any of them.
I can't say I blame them - I had a maximum of three months to work at the beginning of the summer, and I'm down to a month and a half. I wouldn't hire me for that little time. On top of that, I don't have any experience because I was never allowed to have a job in high school. That's just making it that much more difficult to get anything more than a quick glance at the application before it's thrown into the trash. And it sure doesn't help that Michigan's economy is going down the tubes.
Most of my friends that didn't have jobs before the summber began don't now. I really should give up looking; I wouldn't be the only one to do so, and I think I'm really out of options at this point. Still, that doesn't change one fact...
I need money. I won't have any.

Keep at it... you may even want to increase the scope of your search a little more... I've seen help wanted signs on stores down the Gratiot Corridor, a few hanging on places up and down grosbeck, and I think I've even noticed a few over on John R.
While there aren't nearly as many, I think if you keep at it, you'll turn up something.
