NES repair

I have recently put a new 72 pin partin an old system. It works, but the trouble is itwon'tlock down without repeated attempts. Is there any way to adjust the part and/or the unit so it locks consistently? Thanks!

i have repaired 2 NES. What do you mean by lock down?
All my pin connectors have went in no problem.

I mean after the part is replaced and system reassembled. Seems like the part won't allow the lockdown after inserting a game.(frontload-old NES). Can this be remedied?

If you mean pushing down the game. Both of mine do but some games I found work better if the game is not pushed down. My copy of contra will work with pushing it down. Sorry, I do not know who to fix that but you should be able to play the games without pushing them down.

Most likely you need to loosen the 2 front screws on the black part of the inside of the NES that gets pushed down a little bit. If you tighten those 2 screws down too far, the spring latch wont engage when you push the cart down. Its the 2 brass looking screws twords the front (as seen in the picture below).
