Craigslist and thrift stores. I probably found about 40-50 nes/snes games and several systems from just stopping at this thrift store by my house on the way home from work every now and then. I spent about 120 last year between two stores and got about 1800 worth of items. My best find was two old boxed GI Joes vehicles. Which I just sold one for 213.

My games are getting boxed up to make room for our new baby. I only have the instruction books for a handful of them. Here they are going into the box.
Très très belle collection ici! De bon jeux sur nes et snes!

je posterais ici même quelques photo de ma collection bientôt les gars.
Nous ne parlons pas de Francais.

Wow, can't believe I remembered some French from high school!

I really need to start browsing thrift stores and such for old games. My collection hasn't grown at all since my last post in here. Even if I get them just to box the games away, it's still pretty cool to have them.
Classic games lost a lot of value once they became available online for the Wii, PS3, 360.
hardly, like people who collect records and enjoy listening to them, retro games are best played on SD TV's (especially the curved screens) on there original consoles, emulation will never live up to it.

Man, this thread is old but I forgot what incredible games Nickerous and Addicted have. I completely missed out on the SNES era since I was young and basically didn't start collecting games until the early PS2 era. Oh well, maybe in 10 years people will say I've got an incredible PS2 collection.

My plan is to still get 8 of my most wanted SNES games and then quit trying.:p
hardly, like people who collect records and enjoy listening to them, retro games are best played on SD TV's (especially the curved screens) on there original consoles, emulation will never live up to it.
True. For a while, I was really into emulation since most games looked fantastic with all the video filters and whatnot... but it just wasn't the same. I know it's just nostalgia but some things are better the way they were meant to be experience.

yeah dont know where that came from. Games like Earthbound,Snow Bros., Chrono Trigger all still fetch a nasty penny in just cart form. Forget about it being complete.

Agree 100%. I have my systems set up to my HD and it looks crappy. Once i clean up and rearrange the room a bit, ill have my old 19' SD perched up on a stand to play these games like they were meant to be played on.

Emulation is great but if you're a retro gamer...its never the same as holding the actual pad in your hand and just playing the game with no tools to assist you like Save States.

I started collecting boxes, complete games, ect. However, they were hard to display and if I wanted to get a game out to play it was like the Hurt Locker. I don't like living in fear of creases and dents, so I went with the UGC, now I have the cover art, and a place to easily access my games that I do play. I also have a box full of games that get no play or have not gotten a UGC yet.

I want to store my NES games cart only (or with sleeves) in covered plastic containers but can't find any that are the right size. I'd store them on the bookshelf but then I just have to constantly dust them.

Anyone know of a good NES collection tracking site? I'm looking for the Discogs of NES games basically.

Yesterday I found http://www.vgcollect.com, and it's not bad. Here's a link to my collection page: http://www.vgcollect.com/bsmith

These collections are making me jealous. I'm just starting my private collection, working on only complete boxed copies (except registration cards...who needs a million of those). Everytime I get a new order in for my store that includes boxed games I carefully inspect them to grab any mint/near-mint copies of games I don't have yet.

Just recently found a copy of Mega Man (1) for NES, CIB. Only flaw is a very small part of the corner was squished at one point.

With a little luck I can post some pictures in a few months without being embarrassed of my meager set of games.

No reason to be embarrassed about any size of a game collection. It's a feat enough to even have complete boxed games of old Nintendo/SNES games. It's a hard thing to find games like that. The most I see usually are sports games CIB for some reason. Looking forward to seeing pictures of your blooming collection.

My Entire NES Collection:

Original NES (half broken piece of... -_-)

Mario Bros
Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros. 3
Marble Madness
T & C Surf Designs: Wood and Water Rage
The Goonies II
Yo! Noid
R.B.I. Baseball
Tom & Jerry: The Ultimate Game of Cat and Mouse!
Tetris

I keep them all of a shelf next to my Fav PS2 and GC games.
Edit: and I don't have a case for a single one of them... *only bought NES about 8 years ago*

Just recently added Excitebike to my collection. That was my first NES game purchase ever :p (I got my NES and games from my grandad.)

I'm in the process of helping my friend sell his collection, and as a "commission," I am aquiring, among other things, loose copies of SNES Dracula X and Demon's Crest.

Somebody somewhere would be willing to pay big bucks for those collections some day. I have a few, RBI Baseball, Zelda, SuperMario, SuperMario3 and a few others that dont work any more.

I was the oldest. Sadly I lost everything as hand me downs to my brothers and cousins. I guess it's for the better though, because they were put to use again. My biggest collection was of SNES games, I had like 100 or so games with all the original content. I also had a huge collection of Nintendo Power magazines from that time. Ugh, the memories.
This thread makes me want to start collecting old games again.
This.

I wouldn't even know where I would store all of it though. lol

I have a hard enough time ATM with my DVD (movie) collection and my current gen video game collection and my slight obsession on buying special/collectors/limited editions of games also.

This thread does bring back good memories.

The only SNES games I have left are Madden '94, '95, Contra 3: The Alien Wars, Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars, Super Bomberman (complete with multitap!), Super Castlevania IV, and LoZ: LttP.

I'm still kicking myself that I sold my copy of Shadowrun 15 years or so ago. =\

Also, my friends used to hide pornos in my SNES game boxes as well. lol

Hey, if anyone's still checking this thread, I have some complete NES games I'd love to swap for other complete games. CML and let me know if you're interested.

Wow, some of you have mega huge collections. :|

Here is my meager one. I need to focus next on getting some of the common classics to fill it out more, like Super Mario and Donkey Kong. Heh, I even threw in my cleaning cart (which still has one unopened cleaning kit inside it) to try and add to it's size. XD

The cat is not part of the collection. He doesn't work on the SNES anyhow. :p

I have like 40 some nes games and a dozen or so snes games. I don't have any snes games cib. My nes cib collection is small but:

Bayou Billy
Golf
Maniac Mansion
Rad Racer
Robocop
Wizardry

Since my last post in this thread, I've spent a decent chunk of change on tons more NES and SNES games, and also bought up a GBA Micro for 8-16 bit gaming on the go. I'll snap a photo of my cart shelf and post it up later. Retro represent!

Incredible collections guys, seriously..i been gaming since about 1982 and all these games take me back the golden years of it all...amazing collections.

Wow some very nice collections here, I don't have a huge nes collection, think i'm up to 75 now, i do however have pretty much every system that plays games, including computers. Anyone here have the powerpak usb nes cart, that thing is wonderful if anything, i can play every game.

This is my favorite. It was sealed, but I could not resist and slit open the little piece of tape to try it out. Oh well, I never planned on selling it and I buy to play. Less collect.

def PD have you played the Genesis version of "Shadowrun"? It's much better for the gameplay although the story is better in the SNES version.
edit: Lady I'm curious to hear about your collection.
