Netflix Streaming Thread 2.0

Well...I download the current tv episodes of the shows I watch every week, so I'm not missing anything by not having the current stuff on netflix. It's the older stuff that's not on tv anymore that I'd be into.

Movies too, most mainstream titles I get as soon as they hit the net, so not even really watching the newer releases they do offer, like Killers and Expendables, cuz I have them already. It's the older stuff I love on Netflix, especially the 70's/80's horror/comedy movies I grew up watching.

What ticks me off too though is, for example, I was watching Midsomer Murders. Netflix had episode one from 1995 up to 2005, but nothing after. The show's still running but I'd have to get dvd's by mail if I want any episodes later than that. Or when they have a complete series listed for streaming, but there's one or two episodes that they list as DVD only. That's very annoying.
The best part of the Starz announcement is that the worst-looking movies on Netflix streaming will be gone in six months. There's no way that that content would be worth a ten times price increase for Netflix. Now they can just work with Disney to expand the content that they already have on there to include more movies.
The problem is Netflix made a deal with Epix movies for $200 million, so Starz wanted a deal worth 150% of that.

Netflix did pay $100 million for each season of Mad Men, so Netflix might just be making bad deals. There's really no precedent for all of these deals, you know? Tough when there's nothing to base it on, and then another company wants more than the last deal.
For myself, I'd much rather see more quality, ie not direct to video, sci-fi/horror/comedies added, and older tv shows (70's and 80's stuff).

Never actually watch anime/foreign myself. Wish they'd also improve the search, my results are always so extremely limited, and give me the ability to remove sections I don't want entirely, like kids/anime/foreign, and add sections I do want to see.

Anyway, my $10 deal expires on September 22nd, so come the 21st I'll be downgrading to just streaming.
i actually love the old horror and what not but i agree with the search its shit and i hate when i find things only to find out its not offered.

Exactly. I don't know why they can't streamline the search to only include streaming titles. And just update the search options already, or give us the ability to search by genre. It seems like no matter what I type in, on the ps3, it only brings up 10 or 15 results, when there should be much more listed.

And I don't know who types in the info on the movie entries, but so many kids movies are showing up in my sci-fi list, or the foreign movies showing up in my horror list, they're just repeating the same titles over and over in every category.

Nice update today

Ali G Indahouse - not as good as the show but definitely funny and includes one of the most gorgeous women in the world (Rhona Mitra)
Awakenings - great movie
Batman Forever
Conan the Barbarian
Dirty Harry - one of my all time favorites
Flatliners
Good Will Hunting
The Last of the Mohicans

I'll probably stick with Netflix as long as they still have TV series like 24, ST:TNG, Farscape, BSG, etc

I don't have cable and dont' have any place to put all these boxsets even if I wanted to spend the mad cash to own them.

I seem to be a in a relatively small minority in that I canceled streaming and went to disc only. I primarily watch TV shows through Netflix and disc is the best option for that. It had been months since I had even streamed anything at all. Plus, my cost dropped by about 40% so it was really an easy decision for me.

I'm definitely going to watch Conan the Barbarian in HD! Sweet! Also will add Flatliners to the queue. That's a fun movie, as I recall, but admittedly it's been a long time since I saw it (which was in the theater!)

It really sucks if Netflix is going to lose Disney movies. Hopefully they work out a deal directly with Disney.

If I were to cancel one it would be the streaming. For me, I find myself only watching full series of shows on the stream. But that makes it worth it to me I guess. My plan also went up only $5 a month. I might knock it down to one-DVD at a time, which would offset the new charge all together.

That's why I think it's crazy people were just like CANCEL!! There's easy ways to keep the service and just slightly alter it.

Dude, these companies are trying to rape netflix over backwards. The networks seem to get the idea that they can both offer privatized content and content for netflix and earn off both.

Seriously Starz? Did you just make up that number? Do you really think your content is worth that much? People flipped when netflix raised their prices a couple bucks....

Hopefully Netflix can turn this into a good thing, save the money spend it on something of quality.

Nope, I'm in the same boat, some of the stuff is available only on streaming and not on disc, but a FAR LARGER amount is available on disc and not on streaming that I wish to watch.

No, Epix made a deal for their content for $200 million, and Starz wanted a deal worth 150% of that...

Which is why I said Netflix is somewhat at fault for maybe making bad deals.

$100 million per season of Mad Men
$200 for Epix
$300 for Starz

how would they even make money at that rate?
$100 million per season of Mad Men
God that is dumb. They overpaid bigtime for this overrated niche show.

Wasting money like that on shit like that makes me contemplate cancelling, I can't imagine that Amazon would be as stupid.

AMC doesn't get anything since Mad Men belongs to Lions Gate, who licenses the show to AMC. They're the reason that there's such a large gap between season four and five before a deal could be finalized for the last three seasons.

Well now that Starz is gonna be gone I guess I should catch up on what they offer. Any suggestions? I've browsed their selection once, and it seemed underwhelming, especially now that they're demanding $300M+. And Mad Men I have from last year's Black Friday...should really begin watching those...

I'm thinking Netflix doesn't care about the streaming that they lose. They are clearly trying to make money off mailed discs again, because too many people were opting for streaming-only.

By limiting content, and knowing people are not going to get locked in a bullshit contract with sadistic cable providers for Showtime just to watch Dexter for a few months out of the year, more people will add discs to their subscription. If anything, cable networks are still going to lose subscription dollars to Netflix either way.

Yes, Everyone must watch Party Down before it's gone. It's only twenty 25 minute episodes and the show is amazing.

Apparently you can now stream the first three seasons of Breaking Bad. Is it in HD? That's almost enough to win me back. I've always wanted to check this show out.

I've watched both "seasons" it's a pretty good show.

Thanks for the heads up, I was about to shell out on all the previous seasons. All my friends rave about this show.

I've left netflix for Hulu+. And wow. I'm having a much better experience. But I know I'm in the minority...and only because Hulu+ has an extensive Criterion selection I have a hard on for....

The commercials ruin the experience for me personally, if I am paying.

I subscribe to Netflix and while it pisses me off that I have to leave behind the DVD plan because of it, I didn't really use it too much anyways. Half the times, I'd forget to send them out. But, I'll tell you this. I plan on cancelling in February when their deal with Starz ends. That was to me, the best part of it, having that HUGE library of movies, but with Starz going, there goes about a little over half of their instant streaming for movies.....

I went to Hulu+ for a bit but the one thing I absolutely hate is that a lot of the shows I wanted to watch had to be watched through an internet browser. I wanted to just stream them over the 360 and they were web only.

I have actually just gone back to blockbuster. They literally give you a free .99 cent rental every time you go in the store and make a transaction. I got a deal on the mail service for 3 months at no cost. Everytime I switch a movie out, I get a free .99 cent rental. Since DISH got a hold of them, they have actually started to really turn things around for the customer. Maybe it is because I am in there so often and know the workers but, the free coupons work on the $1.99 movies on Sunday also since they are only 99 cents.
They really flubbed this. They should have at least offered a bundle deal for both streaming and discs - take a few bucks off, people like bundle deals.
Yep. At the least offer the deal to existing customers even if new members get the current prices.

Oh well, still not a big deal to me. I'm keeping both while finishing up some TV shows. When those are done I may just go disc only as I mainly watch newer movies that aren't on streaming.

Netflix just deleted the "Instant Saved Queue" feature completely. If you had saved movies in your instant queue, they are now gone completely (with the small possibility of being re-added to your instant queue if they stream again).

Please for the love of fuck call and complain. I just did and got a canned response but with some prodding the broad started being more honest. They will at the very least get your feedback on the issue and if enough people raise hell they might change it back.

If you want it back, use FeedFliks.com for now. Once you link it to your account it will still have your expired instant queue (It exists on Netflix's servers, they just won't let you look at it).

The best part is that they would be added back to your queue if they became available again for streaming.

Yup.. hello iCarly - nice to see you again!

just became streaming only today! :( This is gonna really suck in a few months when all the starz movies go bye bye.

I think the next couple of months is going to be bad for Netflix.

The potential for disaster regarding a split seems quite large.

Plus, Qwikster is a such a stupid name (especially spelled like that).
