Netflix Streaming Thread 2.0
Friday Night Lights people. Awesome awesome show.
Just started that last night. I couldn't stop watching episodes and stayed up until 5. I'm already on episode 7.

Man, I watched about 2 episodes of Friday Night Lights, that shit is lame. If I want high school football drama I will watch Varsity Blues.

I just completed the first season of FNL in 29 hours. It's that kind of show where every episode is a cliff hanger so you want to keep on watching.

I don't get everyone talking about moving to Hulu Plus. If you cancel because of the price change that's one thing, but Hulu Plus is streaming only for the same price at Netflix steaming only and you still have to watch commercials on Hulu (which they said recently they are about to double the frequency of).

Speaking of which, can anybody provide feedback and comparison regarding the quality of content between Netflix and Hulu plus?

I was very disappointed with hulu plus selection. It seems like all of the shows I'd actually want to watch could not be played on PS3 / iPhone. I also thought the selection of criterion films was a letdown.

The shows that it has that I'd want to watch were also on Netflix, but without commercials.

As shitty as Hulu Plus is, because it's designed by the studios, it's probably a lot closer to the future of on-demand than Netflix is.

I went through the first two seasons, as they happened. It's a criminally under-appreciated show.

Gotta check out the Power Rangers stuff. Should be, uh, interesting.

nexflix is the shit hands down not only do they have older films and shows but they have alot of foreign stuff too and apparently a bit of the softcore porn here and there. i just wish all the anime was subbed and not mostly dubbed.

That's why we should use netflix as much as possible now. Use a decent service for as long as you can. And maybe if no one subscribes to hulu plus the studios will just give in.

Content-wise, I had no complaints with Hulu Plus. It's pretty good if you're interested in current-run shows, IMO. When I canceled my cable, it was a good way to watch a lot of network shows that I was missing on Netflix.

However, a DVR has quickly replaced my subscription to Hulu Plus.

Oh, and I fucking hated the ads.
So, Power Rangers is on Netflix, which is new to me. Could be old news to everyone else though.
One thing that pissed me off is they're using the gay'd up versions of the episodes they recently did when they started showing the old series Saturday mornings recently. It's hard to describe, but for instance, Tommy did a flip and the screen said, "Flip!" and they're doing a lot of other stupid editing to the episodes to "punch it up."

Stupid.
For those episodes, they actually have both versions. (The original and the one with the new effects) The original episodes are under "Season 1" and the redone episodes are under "Special 18"

:sigh: If Netflix wants me to drop them, they are doing an excellent job at convincing me to do so. This is the third day that I try to watch a movie instantly and it doesn't load.

Is anyone else getting "We're having trouble playing this title right now. Please try again later or select a different title." whenever they try playing a movie??

I got that message, coincidentally enough, on "The Lady Vanishes" But other movies are playing fine.

I'm going to keep the streaming plan.

It would be awesome though if they would allow you to pay 7.99 and then also choose between both DVDs and streaming. What I mean is if you don't have a DVD out then your streaming will still be available like it is now. However if you want to get a DVD sent to you, it turns your streaming off until they receive the DVD again.

I've never changed my plan so they might already do this, but if they don't they should consider it. Might think it is too much hassle though.

Hurray for 90s X-Men cartoon!

We're keeping both. It's still *way* cheaper then paying for cable and we get a lot of value out of it. It's worth it to us. I am a little ticked, though, that The 400 Blows went missing from streaming after we'd watched 1 half and then, a week later, tried to watch the other half. Oh well. We've got the DVD on the top of the queue.

Since The 400 Blows was missing, we watched Wendy & Lucy, the previous movie by Kelly Reichart (spelling could be wrong), director of the excellent film Meek's Cutoff. Wendy & Lucy didn't disappoint. Very good movie. Now we really need to see Old Joy.

Logistically, that would suck for both Netflix AND the user base.

You wouldn't get streaming back as soon as you put the DVD in the mail - they have to receive it first, meaning for 1-2 days you would be without streaming AND have no DVDs. It wouldn't be worth it for Netflix to develop such a plan.

They could let us rent DVDs on a per DVD basis, for those times when something isn't available by streaming.
All four seasons of Mad Men are now available for streaming.
Awesome! I've been getting the DVDs for it, now I can get something else while still watching this fantastic show.

Oh good, thank you. Maybe now I can stand this crap without being so pissed off and annoyed. Man, this show seemed so awesome when I was a kid.
They could let us rent DVDs on a per DVD basis, for those times when something isn't available by streaming.
And/or do streaming on a per title basis like Blockbuster does. I'd be more apt to do that as I use DVDs a lot more than streaming since I mainly watch newer releases and a lot of the older stuff I want to watch isn't on streaming anyway.

hehe end of season 3 made me remember why battlestar was so badass

honestly i didn't tune in till season 3 which is probably why i liked teh series so well lol. 1st 2 imo was a bit overboard with teh god and farm experiment stuff :)

bt w starting to run out of anime to watch. really the main reason i keep it! :(

I agree for netflix and most people it probably wouldn't be worth it.

Personally I tend to watch streaming quite a bit but after a while I wil kind of layoff for a week or so then come back to it. Would be cool to get a newer release that time off streaming. But honestly I can't really complain this is still an awesome service for 8 bucks a month.

Mad men is awesome.

Yeah, either way really. Though it would probably be a ripoff if they did. If it were more than $1 for a DVD it would really be cheaper to just go to redbox or something similar.

Unless the Redbox dvd magically appears in your hand it is impossible for it to cost a $1. I doubt many people have a redbox close enough to walk to so I dont understand how people continuously leave out the cost of going to get one when they are directly comparing the price to netflix.

You cant knock/compare/talk about netflix for increasing their price due to postage and then conveniently leave out the prices of gas when going to get a redbox movie. The fact of the matter is it cost roughly 3 or 4 bucks (depending on location) and takes 10-20 min to get a redbox dvd.

I dont know why I am a stickler for this...but it reminds me of a sleezy salesman who is trying to convenice me that a item that cost $7,999.99 is a much better deal than an item that cost 8,000.

For our last discussion when I worked it out the nearest redbox for me was 5 miles = 20miles round trip, my car gets 24 mpg..total cost around 3.80 for gas 1 buck for redbox = $4.80ish and roughly 24min of drive time.

I am not even knocking redbox I just want the truth to be told when talking about it.

As Soodmeg notes, the convenience factor is huge for me.

I'm willing to pay more to get a DVD (or a stream) from Netflix than to use Redbox etc. since I don't have to leave the house or worry about getting it back by the deadline to not get charged an extra day etc.

I already pay more than $1 per movie most months as I've been paying $12.xx after tax for the 1 disc with Bluray plus streaming the past several months and usually only end up watching 6-10 movies a month.

Soodmeg,

One thing to keep in mind is not everyone has to drive out of the way to a Redbox. Some people have one directly on their way home, or walking distance from their home or workplace. So gas needs factored in, but part of that is that it's not applicable for everyone. I used to use it some in gradschool as there was a redbox on campus so it wasn't a hassle at all. The university I work at currently doesn't have one on campus, and the nearest one is a mile and a half or so out of my normal driving route so I seldom bother with it.

I could drive to any of the number of red box or red box like kiosks around here in around 5 minutes. I;ll even double the cost to $2 just to cover the gas, which I know I'm not using $1 worth of gas to drive 10 minutes round trip anyway.

But it doesn't matter, I know they aren't going to do this anyway.

I was all excited to see all the anime on there but then once I started to play them I was all like EWWWWW...
Same with the foreign films. I wanted to watch old boy again but once I played it, I was like hell no.

cool story bro

I swear all the movies i get on disc suck, so i just started getting old wrestling dvds. Next time i get netflix it will be stream only and maybe i will get blu-rays like every 3 years because the aren't really too many good ones. Streaming has gotten really good on netflix and i have been enjoying top gear UK, Initial D, and documentaries.(watched one on the wolverine the other day and one on the feud between Psychosis and Ray Mysterio SR.)

thanks for the heads up i added oldboy to my queue but knowing its a dub ill promptly remove it. you should check out the man from nowhere its a really good korean film they have on there and its subbed.

A) Winter's Bone will be up tomorrow

B) Amazon has Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1 on streaming for $1.99 if you didn't want to waste a disc on Netflix. Note: You can dl to your pc and stream to your tv w/ a ps3 or 360. (maybe a wii too but I don't know)

The Usual Suspects is up. If you somehow haven't seen it yet you absolutely must watch it.

And as I stated yesterday, Winter's Bone is now available.

Cool. Will do. Check out Chaser if you haven't already. It's another good korean film that's subbed and pretty exciting.
Home Movies is on streaming, so you better watch that if you have somehow missed it until now.
Sweet! I used to watch this and was always intriqued by the weird humor. When Bobs Burgers first came out, I loved Bob's voice and then realized it was Coach McGirks from home movies. Both these shows are great.

I don't know what changed, but in the past I'd reported that our Xbox did a terrible job of streaming netflix, and it did (and pretty terrible at ESPN streaming too) with hiccups all the time where it would go to a black screen and adjust for changes in the network, then resume, etc. In the past month or so it has been flawless. We're getting great HD quality now, completely hiccup free, over our DSL service. I'm a pretty happy camper! But also keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't get worse again....

Same thing happened to me. I figured my internet just got faster.
