Go to your local Target, and check to see if they have a $14 gold kit.

I'd pick up Burnout (it's fun as hell), CoD2, and Kameo. They can be had for reasonably cheap, and are a good start without plunking down the same for a single game. Don't forget Live Arcade though.. get Geometry Wars, Worms, Alien Hominid, that damned Marble game, and Castlevania whenever it comes out. All of that should keep you occupied for a good while, and not kill your wallet as much as new releases.

I personally liked Battlestations Midway, and get a kick out of the multiplayer. It isn't as realistic as I'd prefer (the aircraft don't even have altimeters and the guns have unlimited ammo), but I enjoyed the mass strategy aspect of gameplay with naval warfare (the first console game I have EVER seen that actually acknowledges the fact that a shell can ignite a ship's gun magazine and blow it up). I hope they support the online portion a good bit (add
B-29's!!).. but it's a love it or hate it kinda game.

Honestly.. I'd stick with what is established as good and get the cheap stuff first. Hell, Burnout alone will keep you occupied for hours. If you want to splurge, Oblivion will suck away your life... you'll get your money's worth out of it.

Target has a $14 Gold Kit?! I need to check that out! You suggested a lot of great games! I do think I will get some of the cheaper games first.

Gears of War and Crackdown are by far my most favorite games on xbox 360. Lego star wars is also good if you are into those games. Tony Hawk Project 8 is fun, and probably one of the hardest games ive played in trying to get all achievement points, let alont get ranked #1.

i bought my 360 to play DEAD RISING which I personally think sucks, but
GEARS OF WAR has had my undivided attention since I got it.
GEARS ALL DAY ALL NIGHT and no glitching :?)

Oh yeah SAINTS ROW is hot too!
I wish my Gears of War game would hurry up and get here!

Stupid free shipping! Love the price, but hate the speed!
Good choice, I wasn't that impressed with GOW until I co-op'ed through it on Hardcore then Insane with a friend, now I'm sad it's over, brilliant game.

I'd reccomend Oblivion as well, hours and hours of stuff to do with the choice to play it stealthy or go hell for leather on each mission, you're getting two very distinct experiences.

There's some very good cheap games on the 360 to, you shouldn't pay any more than $20 each for any of the following, all are worth a look:

Condemned: Criminal Origins
G.R.A.W.
Kameo
Tomb Raider
Amped 3

My top three 360 games are Gears of War, Crackdown, and Lost Planet. LP got decent reviews at best, but I'm having much more fun with it than expected. I can only usually play through a game once before getting completely tired of it, but I've played LP twice. Once to beat it, and another to get all the medals. Plus, MP, though sometimes completely random and often broken, can be a blast as well.

I had Rainbow Six Vegas, and it was cool for a while, but I was absolutely awful online... it's just too realistic for me.
I can't believe Viva Pinata got second... "You know how I know ur gay?" xD
I think Viva Pinata might actually be next on my list...well I still need to get Halo 2, but this thread was specifically about 360 games...so yeah.

I can't believe there is no votes for condemned in here. It is such a fucking gem and amazing game. You want something different with a great story and scary gameplay, condemned. It was the ONLY reason i got a 360 at launch and it was worth every penny.

I do want a great story, but scary gameplay is not my thing. That is why I never play Resident Evil and the like.

I have heard good things about Condemned though.

Must Have
1. Gears of War
2. Rainbow Six Vegas
3. The Elder Scrolls Oblivion
4. Guitar Hero II
5. Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter 2
I think Viva Pinata might actually be next on my list....
It should be. Its really fun and you can't get enough once you start.

Fully agreed. Don't be surprised if you start a garden and don't turn off your system for 4 or 5 hours. Now that it's $30, it's a steal. Trading pinata's over Live is genius too.

Fight Night Round 3 is a solid boxing game as well. It went Platinum Hits, so it can be found pretty cheap if you don't mind the ugly case. I think that one might have gotten really overlooked as far as "next gen graphics" goes. It's really pretty.

Gears is already checked off :)

Next on that list of yours might be GRAW.

Why do those cases have to be so ugly! I did not mind buying the GameCube Player's Choice games because it was just a yellow bar on the top, but the Platinum Hits are so ugly that I may actually go out of my way so as just not to have in that.

I think a used copy at EB/GS goes for $25, and chances are they've got the old cases.

If all else fails, http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?game_id=1408 - hope you like PAL! :)

best game available on the 360 right now is castlevania: symphony of the night via xbla

but I'll make a list of real 360 games that I think are too good not to own:

Rainbow Six Vegas
Gears of War
NBA 2k7 (cheap to buy)
Fight Night Round 3 (cheap to buy)
Dead or Alive 4 (cheap to buy)
Guitar Hero 2
Viva Pinata (cheap to buy)

I just picked up a 360 myself, and I grabbed Kameo, PDZ, Gears, and Oblivion with it. I must say I have been pleasantly surprised. I had heard a lot of negative things about Kameo and PDZ. After playing them both, I can truthfully say graphics and quality voice acting can make a good game great. I never thought that before. I'm loving Kameo right now. I have Twilight Princess for the Cube, and I have been spending most of my time with Kameo. I think it is just the 'epic' feel of the 360 games. Definately give Kameo a shot, you might be as surprised as I was.

Kameo and PDZ are definitely on my list and I just got done playing Gears. Tomorrow I will finish the Hardcore campaign. I hope my friend will come over sometime so I can make it through insane. I tried it by myself...I died pretty quickly. :hot:
