I think for the New Testament, it's Greek, but I could be wrong. Many people study the Old Testament in Hebrew. I am not very religious, but I love the history of languages. Religion plays a large part in a lot of languages.[/quote]
Well the Greek and Hebrew are the original languages so that would be the best of course but as far as translations go, The New Revised Standard I believe does the best job of staying true to the original language, that being said it isn't the 'easiest' translation to read. Really the NIV, NRSV, NASB are all very good.
