New Bible translation free

cool, now I can have something to read when I am deep minded ...... or when my brother goes to the wrong sites and I have to take a whole day just to clean my computer. Thanks OP.
Neat, should be interesting to see the differences between this and the King James Version. I'm not really religious, just curious.
It's just funny to see how much this book got mangled from one translation to the next.

Wow, cool site. Thanks, eldad!

i am the elohim

edit: out of curiosity, (and assuming someone here actually knows the answer to this question, which probably isn't the case) does anyone know what the oldest, most true to the original, least mangled in translation version of the bible is?

Do you get the whole Bible or just a few assorted verses from the book of Job?
This is part of the text next to the box you click for them to send you one:
"Yes, send me a free sample of the new TNIV complete Bible (paperback)."
Just wondering what they mean by sample.

I think for the New Testament, it's Greek, but I could be wrong. Many people study the Old Testament in Hebrew. I am not very religious, but I love the history of languages. Religion plays a large part in a lot of languages.

Well the Greek and Hebrew are the original languages so that would be the best of course but as far as translations go, The New Revised Standard I believe does the best job of staying true to the original language, that being said it isn't the 'easiest' translation to read. Really the NIV, NRSV, NASB are all very good.

No life lived has any meaning unless you follow leviticus to the letter of the law.

And, it's so clear and natural that you don't *need* another translation to understand it.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to get back to digging a plot for my child that I killed for talking back to me.

myke.
...Go to a hotel if you want a free Bible.

EDIT to warn many of you of my skepticism of many religious/faith organizations. Be very careful, because this group could hound you with as much ferocity and skill as the Scientologists.

I see the sample language but I get the sense that it is a complete Bible by the other snippets they use.

King James was/is pretty good but Erasmus did make a few errors. For example in translating parts of the Book of Revelation he could find no original Greek Manuscripts, so in order to not simply leave chapters out, he translated the Latin bible, back into Greek, and then from Greek into English. (perhaps a bit too much info for a video gaming forum though eh? )

Not bad for free then. Well, as long as it isn't delivered by a couple of guys wearing dark suits who start out by asking you "What makes you happy?" or offer you a drink of their Kool-aid.

I wish there was something like this for all of the world religions' scriptures. I think it'd be extremely interesting.

Just sad, if you don't want it, why attempt to crap on it. Look I'm sad you don't believe but I'm not gonna insult you or whatever you believe. Insults like this indicate to me fear.

Cool - anybody know if this is just like an updated version of the NIV or soemthing?

Nevermind - it is.

Thanks! Always wanted a NIV...

Thanks for the heads-up. I claimed a copy for myself. I'm still partial to the NKJV if only because of the beauty of its language (KJV is a bit too archaic for my taste). It'll be interesting to see how this TNIV translation reads, especially in regards to accuracy and comprehension; it appears to be geared especially toward young adults, like some sort of youth Bible...

Labombadog and Minger, I didn't think anybody on this forum had a slower post rate than me, but now I find two people in the same thread!

To say the least, its a good read - theres some really interesting stuff in there if you're up for some reading

Speaking as a diehard atheist, I find the blatant disrespect/disregard of the Bible in this thread to be quite appalling. You can believe in the Bible or not, it doesn't change the fact that this document has changed the course of human history (for better or for worse).

Political decisions are made and wars are waged everyday because of words in this book. Doesn't mean you have to like it, or even respect it, but I think anyone with a shred of intelligence should at the very least be somewhat familiar with it.

Man, If I could respond like t hat when I was an athiest... I was just like everyone else and chose not to see the point that you just posed.

Agree'd

For people to go out of their way to thread crap about a deal (what several people at least believe to be a deal) just shows ignorance and fear.

I don't own, or like XBox, but I don't thread crap every deal posted that involves a game for that system.

Second, in refrence to the Bible itself: Whether or not you believe, or even agree with the tenets set forth there, you should at the very least respect it. Not only as a document that has changed the course of history, but also as the canon for one of the largest religions in the world.

I don't think anyone here would be caught dead insulting the Koran (because it isn't PC) But those same idiots find it fashionable and even 1337 to insult the Bible.

Grow up.

Why is this still happening? If you don't like the deal, don't post. I'm ordering one.

Thanks.

Considering some of the things that have been done in the name of religion (even this particular one) fear is certainly understandable.
