Alright, so I have become quite bored with most current generation games recently. I'm looking for games that will hold my interest. I'm not a giant FPS fan, I like open-world style games, and RPG's are more my thing. Any recommendations would be helpful. Seriously anything you think is good.

I have a 360, but I really only play Dark Souls on it now, and even that has started to become stagnant. I also have a PS Vita, which I play very often. I am looking at possibly ditching my 360 in favor of a PS3 or a 3DS. Also, I am probably going to be building a gaming PC after I graduate in May.

At the very least you should wait until they annouce the new consoles (Sony, MS).

Should be price cuts on current consoles (maybe not the 3DS) with the announcements of the next generation.

Have you tried playing Mass Effect the story is amazing and it's a very good universe you should definitely check it out

Yeah, Mass Effect is actually one of my favorite series. I picked up the first one when I had just received my 360 and it blew me away.

The PS3 has more RPGs, like Demon's Souls, Tales of Graces F, and Ni No Kuni. Also, you can buy the PS1 games and they will work on your Vita/PSP and PS3.

As antlp89 said, wait for the new console announcements. Prices for the current consoles will drop 50 bucks maybe.

Since you have a 360, get the Konami Classic Collection Vol 1 (the one with Symphony of the Night), Lost Oddysey, Tales of Vesparia and Dragon's Dogma.

Yeah it's an rpg. This is how the back cover describes it. "In and age that has harnessed the dark power of magic, you are the mysterious, immortal Kiam - on a quest to reclaim 1,000 years of lost memories." I haven't played a lot of rpgs but Lost Odyssey reminded me some older ones because it was turn based and had random battles. It seemed very traditional in that way. The combat was my favorite part. It is definitely a great game if you enjoyed older rpgs.

Nier was a pretty good Action/RPG. The fighting slightly reminded me of Demon/Dark Souls and it has a different kind of a story for a JRPG. Just don't expect the same kind of daunting challenge. You can find it cheap now to.

For Xbox, I can't recommend Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia enough - two very solid titles :) I put roughly 150 hours into Vesperia through a couple playthroughs. Eternal Sonata is worth a look also.

Skyrim is also a lot of fun, but I prefer that on PC because of the modding community.

The PS3 has a great selection of RPGs as well. Ni no Kuni and Tales of Graces F are a blast :) Not to mention Tales of Xillia coming out this year. I would wait until after the Sony Feb 20th event though as others have mentioned - they may price drop the PS3.

I enjoyed Nier quite a bit also! It's not exactly a full-blown RPG, but it has similarities - more like an Action RPG. If you try it, be sure to give it more than just the intro portion. It's one of those games that really grows on you and the story isn't half bad either - one of my favorite things about it was you can do a 2nd (and 3rd / 4th for a different ending) playthrough and it translates what the enemies are saying, so you learn their side of the struggle.

Divinity II: Dragon Knight Saga is another good title :) It has a budget-game vibe to it, but it's really enjoyable. It has been described as a 'poor man's Skyrim' but I think it's a lot better than that. It's a very long game, has a huge world to explore, AND you can morph into a dragon that has its own set of attacks and fly around the world.

There's also a Space RPG called Darkstar One: Broken Alliance that I enjoyed. It has escort missions, trading routes, lots of pew pew combat, you can upgrade your ship (Weapons vs. Armor vs. something else I can't remember.. lol) and it changes the appearance of your ship which is nifty. I think it's a medium-length game, I spent.... 40? hours in it getting 100%. The story is a bit cliche, but still enjoyable.

If your into Co-op at all, Tales of Vesperia has co-op combat for up to 4 people which is a blast :)

Hunted Demon's Forge is more of a Gears of War Style shooter, but it does have a few RPG elements such as upgrading spells / skills. Lots of fun in co-op!

Try a jrpg like magna karta the xbox has so. Epretty good ones I've heard

Also take advantage of the fact you have fable 2, I wish it was on pc but also that is one thing g xbox has going g for it

Like others were saying, definitely stick with the 360, not worth the trouble to trade it out, especially since you are building a gaming PC in a few months.

Tales of Vesperia, Eternal Sonata, and Lost Odyssey are all great recommendations. While the reviews weren't as great as some other RPG's the memories part of lost odyssey was very interesting, especially if you like reading a lot of story. If you are looking for something darker, could try the witcher 2 or any of the fallouts. The fable series is great too, always a fun diversion. While I love jrpg style combat, there is something very satisfying about taking someone out with a giant hammer or rapier in real time.

I love space and fantasy rpg's like mass effect or anything turn based is nice too I'd it follows the same style.

Do you guys recommend anything in that nature? How is star ocean btw..
