New DS bundle - Red/black DS + Brain Age 2 for $150

i have no family to speak of, but yeah work and other activities: dating, clubbing and so on, those take time. Games are usually directed towards younger people- nintendo in particular. The other demographic is the young male demographic: late teens and early 20s. just my opinion tho.
 
i bit. I just hope the brain age 2 comes with real packaging so i can dump it on ebay and get more money when i sell it. I really just want the console, i would actually rather they didnt bundle it. i played BA 1 and didnt like it.

I'm pretty sure it comes with the case and all...but if your not gunna try it, might as well eBay it

just wait til 2 weeks from now when it retails for $20 (next week its $15 at CC) and you'll probably make $18 in a snap
 
I went to my local Kmart today and almost got to pick this up early. They had it out in the game case and, having worked there before, I knew it was because the people there don't have any clue about dates on games and rarely look to see what the street date is.

Of course, I tried to pick it up but was foiled by the check out system. It wouldn't let them check me out. It was worth a shot though.
 
IGN did a nice review about it. What is interesting is that the bottom outer half does not contain the glossy exterior, it is completely matte black. You can tell from the last picture from GamePro. I hope this means that matte black DS Lites will be coming. Kinda sucks that the outer box isn't reusable for collection purposes. Since it is glued shut on all 4 sides, the only way to open it is to literally tear it apart.
 
I'm gonna call on monday/tuesday and see what's up. I think someone with photo editing skills adjusted the tint of a DSL and made it red, then added BA screens on the ds.

What? No. Don't bother calling. It's a mistake. I don't know for sure but Best Buy seems like a lame place to have an exclusive system.

Yup thats he same pic they have in the ad. I saw the ones BB had today (Monday) and it is the same black/red version everybody else has.
 
I got the new Brain Age Bundle. The case is so damn bad ass. It's like a cell phone hip case. It's red on the inside with the DS logo (two screens) as a pattern. Has three slots for games and elastic bands so you can use the Lite in the case. Red stitching throughout. I'll take pics later.

System itself is sweet. Only shiny surface is the crimson top. The red is a very deep wine-like red. The black part is matte which looks a little odd but it works. Gonna get my hori stylus from the Castlevania Portrait of Ruin pre-order gift and put it in there.

I'll also come back with impressions of Brain Age 2 later.
 
i ordered off of amazon and it wont ship for another week. I was hoping to get it sooner to unload the Brain age game on ebay while it was still a new release. still the free ship and no tax make the amazon order a nice option, unless if any of those other sites have a coupon code?
 
I was hoping I'd like this once I saw pictures of the system, but I still can't like it, especially since the red is only on the exterior.
 
Geez, went to Target after work today. They had no idea what I was talking about, even though it's in their weekly ad; available 8AM on the 21st.

They couldn't find any in the stockroom and weren't sure if they sold out in the morning or not.

Went to WM and they "didn't think they had those kind in yet."

So are they actually that rare, or did my store(s) not get their stock yet?

How many did the rest of you spy?
 
I went by Fry's at 4:30 today to pick up this and Bioshock was already sold out, but they did have 3 of the DS Lite bundles left. A fourth one was already being taken away by someone else.

I went ahead and picked it up, but now the cheap ass in me is wondering if I should buy from Amazon and return the one I picked up (save that $16.00 in tax!).

I'm still waiting on mine to come in from Amazon. I figured I waited this long for one that another week or two won't make that much of a difference. I really wish I had it now, though, but the money I saved on shipping and tax make me feel a little better. :whistle2:#
 
Got this yesterday first impression is good the top casing part is a metallic red color and no dead pixels that I've noticed so far. The stylus is black as is the spare one they give you with the system(sorry for those looking for a red stylus). The Interior of it and the bottom is the matt black of the onyx version.

The case itself is well constructed black with red stitching. The games fit into the slots sewn on the top of the case snuggly made of a black leather like material like the outside of the case. The interior has DS logos printed on it in a lighter color red with the primary interior color the same color red as the stitching. It seems to have a bit of padding under the interior liner as well. It has black elastic straps to hook on either corner of the bottom of the DS and one to go across just above the bottom screen. It also has a snap so that the case closes securely no cheap velcro which is what I was afraid I might get with a brushed aluminum or pewter look on the top of the strap that snaps on which is also the shape of the DS logo.

The game comes with a full case not a sleeve or anything cheap which is what I would commonly expect out of a bundle like this I haven't had a chance to try the game yet I was letting the system charge up real good before I gave it a workout. My only knock on the bundle was that it was a pain to get into I almost literally had to destroy the outer box to get in to pull the system and its components out. Each component inside the bundle box had its own box. Brain age was in shrink wrap the DS itself in its own box as well so that turned out nice as well. Anyway thats my intial impression of the system let me know if you have any questions.
 
Okay, so I snagged my 2-tone DS Lite from EB yesterday. I had a lot of credit already, and, quite frankly, after my white system suffered its second hinge crack I felt I was long overdue for an upgrade.

My first impression was… well… profound ambivalence. I really dig the color scheme itself, but I’m honestly still not sure whether or not I like the fact that the black portions – which are, of course, the overwhelming majority – are matte as opposed to glossy. Sure, it solves the whole fingerprints-all-over-my-damn-system problem, but, texturally, it feels a little weird.

As FurryCurry said previously, the case is pretty boss. It’s probably not the highest quality pack-in bonus in the history of handheld gaming, but it’s got a great look and is totally functional. My only gripe is that the three game sleeves sewn into the top portion are a bit too snug; you really have to negotiate getting your carts in and out of ‘em, but I don’t doubt they’ll break-in quickly.

Brain Age 2 is pretty much what you’d expect. Like the predecessor, I can’t see myself playing it long-term, but it’s got a sort of novel quality that makes it fun for a bit. Of course, once I get that Dr. Mario clone unlocked I may be singing a different tune.

Overall, I’m pleased with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone who wants a DS Lite with a little extra aesthetic appeal. If you – like me – have been playing your first gen Lite nigh daily since launch day, you might find the finish a little off-putting on your tender hand-parts. But such is the price you pay for owning such a saucy little handheld.

That was my first impression, too. It's not smooth at all. Kind of rough. But I'm telling myself that it's for "grip enhancement."

I like it. The red chrome is a nice contrast.
 
So are the white, black, and pink DS Lites completely "shiny" all the way around? I haven't really played on a Lite. Hmmmmmmmm do I return the one I bought and just wait for an all-shiny red or green to come out later? I just don't know what to do!

I'm also in between with this color scheme (I'd prefer it to be all red or at least a shiny black half...). But since I don't particularly dislike it, I'll stick with it, since it's different from the tons of white, black, and pink ones, even though I like the white.

I read that the box for the DS has its own UPC but I hope that this will be more of a limited production so if/when a color I like better comes along, I might be able to unload this for a decent amount.

I just don't know what to do![/quote]they're not glossy "all" the way around. all the large exterior surfaces are, the GBA slot cover, the hinge area (including the socket for the charger, the DS slot, the L/R buttons etc), and the entire interior (when you flip it open) are matte, not glossy.
 
Thanks for the info. So the difference with this bundle is that the back/bottom is not glossy, whereas the back/bottom is glossy on the others. Hmmm. That's a shame. oh what to do what to do :)

I got mine yesterday.

I love the red on this thing.

Also I picked up a transformers case for it but I'm only using the bottom "Skin" since the red top is too nice to cover up.

I kinda like the rough feel of the black.

Crazy, Amazon no longer has this available (at the moment), and Amazon marketplace sellers are selling this for $235...

Do they actually expect to move these units at that price, as limited as it may be? It just came out two days ago.
 
I just bought this an hour ago. It's pretty sharp looking. I can't wait to play it tonight.

Do you think my wife will fall for the "it's just a skin" excuse? She's constantly shaking her head at my hobby.

I'm auctioning of the white ds lite and a couple of games to offset the cost.

I alway do the old "it didn't cost anything because I traded stuff in" routine. She's always quick to remind me that I had to buy the stuff that I traded in. She just doesn't get that I'm the master at flipping my wares ;) .

ive seen people make reference to flipping games, how is that even possible when EB/GS gives such horrible trade in prices? i have about 10 EB/GS stores within 5 miles of me, and could probably flip like crazy, i dont play or keep track of games much and am completely out of the loop.

A few years ago(2k4) BB/gamerush had some silly trade in prices and i put up a couple thousand in credit by spending only several hundred in cash. also they had that dvd trade in promotion where they gave $8 in cred per dvd, ANY dvd. that promotion didnt last long.
 
I like the color of the ds. but I don't think i'd trade/sell my ds in order to get that one. it's cool looking nonetheless. I wish nintendo would release more 2 color ds lites.
