Really bought the DS for me, but thought i would ask around for some fun and perhaps some educational stuff for my 5 year old son.

I saw at Gamestop some things like Dora, Diego, and other Disney stuff. Is any of those things really worth buying or even renting from Gamefly? I realize they probably aren't something for an adult, but how about for a 5 year old? Are they easy enough that with some help he could play and enjoy it?

Any suggestions for games for a 5 year old?

My five and half year old son loves Crayola Treasures. It's definitely geared for 5 and 6 year olds. If he loves to color, he'll love this game.

Might also want to check out Metroid Prime Pinball which you can pick up used at Game Stop for $10. If he doesn't get in to it, you will at least.

You're an idiot.

Disney Meteos might be good. Clubhouse Games might have a few things he could enjoy.

i doubt a 5 year old would understand half of those card games. but if you could get it cheap maybe.

It doesn't only have card games.
New Super Mario Bros.
Yoshi's Island
Actually, aren't those pretty challenging for a 5 year old?

I posted this a few weeks ago, here are my suggestions again:

Polarium may be a little boring for a five year old. The game has no color except for black and white.

Looney Tunes: Duck Amuck is definitely a lot of fun. There is some text in the game, but I never really had any problems with text when I was five years old (I was playing games on MS-DOS using commands to start games up). Also, Daffy talks a lot.

Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga would also be a lot of fun for a five year old. Make sure you pick up this version, because the other one is unplayable.

For cheaper games, Over the Hedge (just this one, not the Hammy one) and Open Season also got fairly positive reviews.

One more thing is to always question yourself before buying games on the DS. There is a lot of junk out there. Anything published by DSI Games is bad, bad, bad!

What do you do in this game?

My son is 4 going on 5. He's been playing handhelds for about a year.. Got him a SP about a year ago and then upgraded to a DS.

He plays these very well:

Mario Kart DS ( he can even do the speed boost)
New Super Mario Brothers
Club House Games ( He like the balance game / bowling / Darts)

He plays the Gamecube also ( Lego Star Wars 1 + 2) .

Kids pick things up very quickly. Pick something that will have lasting playability .

thanks for all the replies, alot of things in there i'll look into.

been thinking of grabbing Lego Star Wars the complete Saga for the 360 for awhile, so i might just grab it for the DS.

Basically it is based off of the 1953 cartoon short "Duck Amuck" where a cartoonist offscreen uses his drawing tools to torment Daffy. This is the premise of the game. The game is filled with average minigames. The game is not worth $30, but for $20 or $15 I would definitely buy. It is a game that you can pick up and play usually for about 5 or 10 minutes and have fun.

My cousin who is 6 beat the whole new super mario bros by himself and he doesn't have the strategy guide and he has never played video games before owning a DS. So that might be a good bet.

Drawn to life is another good one for kids.

Also look into some GBA games since they can be played on the DS, most are dirt cheap and there are a lot of kid friendly titles.

Highly recommend the Crayola Treasures game. Both my kids love it.
Also Mario games, nintendogs is a must buy. I have heard good things about a game called "Smart Boy's Game Room" Their is a review of it up on IGN if you want to check that out.

Anyone have opinions on either of these games:

Spongebob: Atlantis Squarepants

Nicktoons: Attack of the Toybots

Both of these titles are marked down half price tomorrow at CC.

Thanks.

Great suggestions. My only concern is Smart Boy's Game Room. I read IGN's review and they commented a few times that this game is tailored to the 3 and 4 year old. My son is almost six so I wonder if he's too old for this game.

if you want a fighting game you can grab guilty gear dust strikers for $10 at TRU. Its on clearence right now.
a good stocking stuffer

I recently purchased a GBA game for my son that he loves. It has Candyland, Chutes and Ladders, and Memory. The only bad game of the three is Chutes and Ladders. The other two are keeping him quite busy.

My question is are there other games such as that are either DS games or GBA games?

Thanks.

The same developer & publisher put out a Life, Payday, & Yahtzee compilation GBA game as well. It skews a bit older, but is of comparable quality otherwise.

Hey sportdan, I meant to ask in my above post, what doesn't your son like about the GBA Chutes and Ladders?
