New DS: transfering DSiware games?

Last year I bought a dsi with an extended warranty from Best Buy. I've purchased 2 dsiware games on the system.

Over the last several months the L button keeps going out on me, and will intermittently stop working or start working randomly. I'm ready to take it back and exchange it, and I'm thinking of swapping it for an XL (with BB extended warranties, you can exchange for a product with the same price as the original purchase price: I believe I bought the dsi at $169, the current XL price).

However, I've heard lots of contradicting stories about whether or not you can transfer downloaded content. Of course the common consensus with most is that it is impossible, but there are many people who say that as long as the games are tied to your Club Nintendo account you can transfer them to a new device. I'm inclined to believe this, as I've linked my dsi to my Club Nintendo account, and all 4 of the dsiware games I have downloaded appear on the website under my account (2 purchased, 2 free).

So really I just wanted to see if any of you have actually done this, have personal experience, and maybe could give me some tips. If worse comes to worst, I can probably call Nintendo support, but I'm not sure if that's necessary, and whether I would call them before or after the swap...

Thanks for your help!
