You know, I didn't mind the cute SD-ish no-nose characters in FFIII... it didn't work for certain job classes but the overall visual style was cool. I just can't figure out why Square thinks we want Crystal Chronicles to continue the trend to the nth degree. I'm not usually one to complain about "kiddiness" if the game is good, but the in-game models practically look like toddlers! Blah. It'll have to get great reviews to win me over now...

Maybe older features require more....something. Polygons or something.

If you grew up getting attached to little non-descript 8 and 16 bit sprites getting into adventures, I think you have enough imagination to overlook a disagreeable character design.

Ditto that. I think it looks pretty good without straying too far from the old school 16-bit era FF look.

I kind of like it. I may be inferring too much from a couple screenshots but something about the art appears decidedly non-Japanese. The style reminds me of the stout, ruddy Dutch kids depicted in my old Hans Christian Andersen collections.

Regardless, FFCC for GCN was horrible. I still dont get why it was an 8 average score. It's more like a 7/10 game. This one should be no different...unless they actually add substance to the battles and story, especially story.

How do you give a "horrible" game a score of 7? But I do agree that FFCC was overrated, probably because it carried the FF name. It was never able to reveal its finer qualities until you had 4 people playing in tandem, and you could then argue that the game itself had less to do with the experience than human interaction.

Oh, but the human interaction was great, and the game promoted it.

Well theirs 6 trailers out and tons of screens out already. Also those pics were taken from the gameplay pics. I can't read jap so someone can translate it?

Hahahahahahahah, what? So, the difference between a "horrible game" and an overrated game is a single point? That's a pretty danged sensitive rating scale, isn't it?

And as stated, how is a 7/10 game "horrible"? That's well above-averate, mathematically.

Anyway, I though FF:CC was incredible. I'm a MASSIVE Gauntlet fan, and I found FF:CC to be an amazingly fun and engaging evolution to that style of co-op multiplayer game. I loved every minute of it, even with that damned bucket.

If you aren't one for childish looking graphics, steer clear of Chocobo Tales :)

I would have loved to get FF:CC but the GBA requirement for multiplayer ruined it for me.

Yeah but in the 8- and 16-bit games, I could look at the SD interpretations and use my imagination to visualize what they might "really" look like (the amano artwork, for instance). Anyway, I just like to complain sometimes. :) I love FF in all (most?) of its incarnations and will probably end up buying it unless it gets terrible reviews.

On a related note, I'm super-excited about this supposed Tactics sequel for the DS, but I'm wary because the full title includes "A2" for "Advance 2". Give me another Ivalice game, not that ridiculous "oh, we got transported to the game world!" stuff from Advance!

I'm dreading a FF Tactics Advance sequel. I logged over 1,000 hours in that game. It ate my life.
