Okay, I went to Walmart and got two of the three PS2 games for $10 packs. I went to my local GR, here in Ventura, CA. I presented the manager with the games (the same guy that told me no PSone games), and he gave me a dirty look and said "Wow, these are real winners, did you just get them at a garage sale?" I said told him "something like that," and he proceeded to give me another dirty look.

The store was totally trashed.... there were empty boxes laying around everywhere, all the games were out of order, and one of the employees was talking very loudly about how he vomited this moring.

So I was looking for a decent game, but there was none. I had to get something so I got Need For Speed Underground. I came home, and put it in my PS2 (newest model) only to find out it doesn't work. The thing is scrathed to hell. I'm going to take it back tomorrow, but I'm not sure how they will refund me. Hopefully they'll let me get a different game.

I took the other three games to the Gamerush in Oxnard, CA..... what a difference. The employee was soooo nice. The place was stocked full of great games.... I got Halo 2 LE for $4.70-something!! So yeah, that was my day, it's amazing how much things can change from store to store.
I feel your pain the employess at one store I go to in Mesquite are rude jerks who make up their own rules.

Really? I only go to the three GR's in Mesquite and all the employees have been VERY nice...

I have a GR real close to my house.....the manager is real cool, one or two of the employees are cool, two are dumb as a bag of rocks, and one or two are just plain a-holes.

Getting the know the employees is a good and bad thing. On one hand, they may hook you up, on the other they'll get to know you if you scheme a lot. That's why I'm always friendly, patient, and cordial. So, they'll think i'm a nice guy who comes in a lot......not some c.a.g. who's taking game rush to the cleaners!! he he, boy do I have them fooled! :0)

If you follow thier rules, and don't go drastically overboard trying to build up disgusting amounts of store credit on the back of a price discrepency with one or two games, most stores and managers won't mind if you come in every other day with 3 PS1 games and trade them for the most expensive preowned games on the shelf.

If you're a jerk, abrasive, or make yourself a general pain (or others in your area do so), they'll clamp down and readjust the deals as quick as they can.

I've actually yet to trade in one of those 3 packs...
I have a feeling that I probably won't, either.
I'm completely fine with paying 6-15 dollars for 3 old PS1 games (or less popular PS2), paying an extra 10, and then picking used game that's still selling for close to it's initial retail price.
I'll happily pay $25 for a used copy of a game that is still selling new for $50.

Your stores have some good Pre-Owned games....mine usually has junk. I think the best one was Fable. I only look for XBOX though....that is why I try to use the NEW game coupons or pre-order coupons.

This sounds like good advice for life in general
damn a halo 2 LE copy...the person that traded that in must have been pretty dumb.
The guy working told me that it was another employee that traded it in because he only wanted to play on Live, but had a modded Xbox so it didn't work.

Same here. I have one GR where they know me and hook me up. But the other 5 around me just get crapped on. This week I have had my hands on every new release possible and have just be rotating each store's stock to another store.

I made $300 in credit this week! I don't even want to buy that many things, I just want to see how long I can get away with it.

And no, i can't be caught. I have honed my technique perfectly, and I go to 5 different GRs. I know employee's schedules and I know some managers who all want my trades.

Life is good. If I keep this up, I can get all the next-next-gen consoles on lrelease day.

I have $1000+ credit AND that's with me buying a shit load of stuff.

Wow, how many times did you have to buy/trade to get $300 credit/week. I have a hard time trying to make $100 credit/week. I am still testing the different employee's schedule. I found that it is best to not have the manager around. Care to share some of your "technique." I am now just trying to get enough credit to get a Xbox.

So in other words he made a copy of the game to play at his house and traded it for the credit.

Here is the problem with trading at Blockbuster/Gamerush. After all is said and done, when you have amassed huge amounts of credit, what the hell are you going to do with it. 1) BB/GR prices on new stuff is outrageous (they dont PM either) 2) Sooner or later, they are going to run out of good deals 3) You will be stuck with credit you dont want to spend, or cant spend, or worse, if BB/GR go under, you wont have squat except plastic cards.

Just my 2 cents. I dont think BB/GR will ever go under, but their prices are kinda through the roof. And I realize that if they didnt have the deals they have now, I wouldnt even consider shopping there. I have changed my attitude towards trading with them. I have no problem trading by the rules, but when the rules keep changing (unofficially) it gets more frustrating. Hope deals get better or better games get traded in. Thanks for listening, and keep cycling good games, so that one day I can find disgaea or phantom brave or la pucelle or even shin megami tensei (never seen any one of these in store yet).

I swear I've never heard so many people whine so fiercely about getting good deals.

New game prices, accessory prices, etc at Gamerush are no more expensive than the higher end of the retail price spectrum (KB toys, etc).

Yes, the used game prices at the store are higher than those at EB and Gamestop, but then, so are the trade in values of games, so it's kind of a wash. You can't have your cake and eat it too... if you want the prices of used games at Gamerush to be in line with those of EB and Gamestop, you'd have to expect that the trade in value of the games would be in line with them as well.

Thanks to the trade in promos that have been running almost constantly since the stores open, I've gotten more "newer" titles at Gamerush than I have anywhere else... it's hard to beat getting a game that just came out 2-3 weeks ago for half (or less than half) the retail price... even if it is used.

Here is the problem with trading at Blockbuster/Gamerush. After all is said and done, when you have amassed huge amounts of credit, what the hell are you going to do with it.

Hmm, let's see... I don't know... maybe actually buy a few games?

1) BB/GR prices on new stuff is outrageous (they dont PM either)

That's just silly. Their prices are completely in line with the MSRP set down by companies. Since they don't need sales to drive people into thier store like discount stores (Target, Walmart, etc), they don't need to offer the sales that discounters offer.

2) Sooner or later, they are going to run out of good deals
That's the beauty of the deal for blockbuster... there is amazing synergy with it's core business. They can dump most of thier rental stock right into the preowned section just as soon as rentals start to slip.
Add that to the people that will trade in newer games, and you've got a fairly constant stream of new material coming in.

The only way that they'll run out of good deals is if they cut the promos... then they're just an overpriced used game store.

3) You will be stuck with credit you dont want to spend, or cant spend, or worse, if BB/GR go under, you wont have squat except plastic cards.

I'm sure a charity would love to accept a donation of gift cards to any store... a battered women's shelter, an orphanage, etc would probably LOVE to recieve a couple hundred dollar donation like that that they could spend to brighten the lives of a few downtrodden or underprivilidged children.

Of course, that would require someone to be unselfish.

Just my 2 cents. I dont think BB/GR will ever go under, but their prices are kinda through the roof. And I realize that if they didnt have the deals they have now, I wouldnt even consider shopping there.

They'll always have some sort of deal running... them moving product through gamerush means they're lessing the sunk cost of purchasing games for the rental end of the business. If software isn't moving, their losing money on paying employees and not recouping the sunk cost of the rental games. Its almost always to thier benefit to have software always moving into and out of the store.

I have changed my attitude towards trading with them. I have no problem trading by the rules, but when the rules keep changing (unofficially) it gets more frustrating. Just because you haven't seen them doesn't mean they aren't there.
I've seen Megaten.. and la pucelle... and Disgaea... and Star Ocean...
and Shadow Heart:Covenant.

Some, if not most of the games traded in at GR (not newer games) do not seem to be getting great trade in credit. I do not know how much EB or GS give for Max Payne 2, GR gave me 1.50. Along with a lot of other games I traded in, GR doesnt seem to be giving much for older games. I wouldnt know because I havent traded anywhere else. I have credit at GR, therefore I keep trading with them. I am pretty sure newer games get the same credit (not cash) at many stores. All I am saying is that GR has the deals, that is why I keep trading with them. I dont buy new unless it is through a kickass deal, then I sell it back after I am done with it, which should help me break even. Systems are a good deal there as prices are consistant everywhere (if they have it stocked! good luck there).

As an educated consumer, why cant you have your cake and eat it too. Find a way, that is the spririt of being a cheapass!

Oh, I have a girlfriend and some female friends, so don't worry about that.

It's just that there are 5 GR by where I work. I usually go before and after work. i also go to college full-time so i don't have a lot of time to spend at GR.

I have my technique down so well, that I probably spend 5-10 min in each store. I actually have a life, as you can see by my post count. :D

WHat I'm trying to say, is that if you know what you are doing at GR, you csn make a lot of credit without it taking too much of your time.

Gamerush's used game prices really aren't very different from EB's or Gamestop's. Once you factor in the buy2get1free or buy1get1halfoff, you actually save some money. The only thing Gamerush is priced very high on is new DVDs.

Oh yeah, picked up my DS today. Gamerushes should have them in, along with 3-4 copies of all the launch titles. I'm sure that most of the stores will hold back until Sunday to sell them though.

The only thing that takes some time is locating a game to get using the trades. Unless you ask for help, which the newer games should be somewhere easy to find. Does anyone buy games that they have traded on previous visits, without incident? If so, I can see buying fables and burnout3s and TigerWoods2005s again. (Will not sell games that I buy back to where I bought them from... gotta avoid being labelled as a flipper.)

I went back today, and returned NFS:U. It was the same manager working..... except everything was the total opposite. He was super nice, and when he saw that I wasn't finding anything I liked (picked cleaned) he told me that he just had some kid trade in some newer games. I got Tony Hawk's Underground 2. The store was much nicer looking, yesterday must have just been a bad day for them I guess.

Also I traded in Halo 2 LE for $40 at a different GR, and the following for $8 each: Freedeom Fighters, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, and XIII.

I got Smackdown vs. RAW for free, and Mortal Kombat: Deception CE for $16-something

It is perfectly understandable why you feel this way. But look at it this way, the people that are trying to amass tons of credit at Blockbuster usually do it with earned Blockbuster credit. I assume that most of them do not have to use additional upfront cash to do what they are doing. They are just building BB credits with BB credits. In the worst case scenario, they will be losing their times if those credits become uselss. But as some members put, they only spend about 5-10 minutes at each store, they don't even lose that much time.

Ultimately, to each his own.

It's been a while since I've regularly looked upon this thread and I've only been to GR these past few weeks to pick up preordered games. The extra 5 dollar deal is over, right? Any promotions that don't require coupons that are currently around?
And the trade one, new release for 29.99(not $20 off unfortunately).
This deal is very YMMV. It is in new test markets only? Doesnt hurt to ask.

How can I use credit to build credit. Cant find a way to use BB/GR credit to buy trade in fodder. Any advice, PM me. Thanks.

This is so weird. Have anyone seen other newer games that trade for $35 or $30 besides the usual Fable and Star Wars BattleFront at the GR store. The GR store I went to was practically clean of all the newer used games. The only one available is Star Wars BattleFront (about 6 copies of them). I was hoping to get my hands on MK:Deception and Halo 2. BTW, I am in the DFW area

Same thing with mine, ask if they have anything behind the counter. The often have games that are newer, but they haven't got around to putting them out yet. It's worth a try, but they might get pissed.

Actual, one of the Gamerushes near me has taken to keeping all of the new games behind the counter due to a high shrink/theft rate, and now has only dead boxes on the shelves for everything.

Exactly! I am using BB credit to get more BB credit. If I even get a whiff of BB going under (which is unlikely) I will buy a shit load of Nintendo DS and Xboxs and sell them cheap on Ebay. So it's a win/win for me.

Regal Theatres are handing out flyers that gets you a game for $29.99 when you trade in 2 used games. I think it expires on December 4th.

i think this is defenetely YMMV. just these past couple weeks ive gotten mk: deception, def jam fight for ny, paper mario, killzone, thug 2, tiger woods 05, ninja gaiden (surprisingly), and burnout 3. plus the regular fable and sw: battlefront. i usually call the place im going to before i go just so they can hold it. but also i have about 10 or so GRs in about a 15-20 mile radius.

If you need to sell a DS cheap, let me know.

And thanks thaderules10. I'm going to check out my local Regal theaters to see if they are handing out those flyers tomorrow.

I just traded Quantum Redshift (or something like that) for XBOX and picked up Metal Gear Solid 3 for $29.99. Used previously accumulated store credit to get it. I think Game Rush has quite a few cool deals we can take advantage of, and I like that they give you the credit for the trade plus the deal. So far, I've gotten RC:UYA new, MGS3, Fable, Star Wars Battlefront and NCAA 2005 for my trades, plus I still have about $50 left in credit.

Fragmanslaver, does that mean you would actually sell a game to the store and buy it back again. From your post, it seems you wouldn's sell the game to them twice, but would buy back what you traded if I understand you correctly.

I would also like to know the answer to that too. The BB around my area are extremely scarce of newer games.

I think all this speculation about BB/GR going under is unfounded. I have heard accounts that GR will be moving into the Florida BB locations. So I don't think they will be going under. Or they could be of the management school of thought, that you have to build more unfrofitable stores to support the REALLLY unprofitable stores. Either way, I'm happy GR is coming

I am in an area outside of Orlando. It is true they are opening in Florida. I could not believe even in this rinky dink town, our BlockBuster just opened a GameRush. I think it is here to stay.
And the trade one, new release for 29.99(not $20 off unfortunately).
MY GR said this deal didn't exist anymore, I talked them into it for like 40 minutes since I'm a well known customer and ended up getting Viewtiful Joe 2 for 20 dollars! \:D/
Well, for those of you hoping to pick up a Nintendo DS today, both GameRush stores I went to today said they wouldn't have them until tomorrow. :(
Got mine from GR @ 10 am this morning. \:D/
NEW DEAL: TRADE ANY 2 GAMES AND PREORDER MECHASSUALT 2 FOR $29.99
thanks for the tip.

i have really been burning GR lately. i just did the trade 3 games get a used game for 10 deal. i traded in mk:deception, nfl2k5, and xmen legends. i bought mk from them for 30 and got 35 credit. i bough xmen legends from them for 1.50 and got 30 credit  i bought nfl 2k5 for 20 from GS and traded for 8. they cost me 51.50 and i got 73 in credit. and here is the beautiful part.

i bought sw:battlefront for 10 with the deal, and tomorrow i will trade that and sc:pt (xbox) and get about 43 in credit, and i will trade those 2 games towards mech assault2, and will MA2 only cost me 30!!! i LOVE gamerush. i have built up a lot of credit there. i have about 250 in credit and 2 games paid in full. thank god the guys who work there are cheapasses too so they dont care how much i abuse them, accept for this one guy.

I think you just have to be as smart buying games as you do trading them in. I transferred most of my trade-ins to pre-orders when they were running the trade 2 get a pre-order for $29.99. With my trade-ins I paid cheap prices for brand new games. My left over credit is still spent on cheap games, never full price games. I have found a few games that are PC/GH/PH, that Blockbuster still has original copies of new. I pick those up since I am a nerd and like original copies. I will use the rest of my credit on hardware, which is pretty much universally priced, although some stores will have special deals every once in a while. Blockbuster also seems to be generally at MSRP with prices. They don't run big sales, but they don't usually sell new games above MSRP in my experience.

I'm trying to acquire that GameCube Bundle but have to wait until Wednesday (damn it)...I got that GameCrazy MVP card and they posted I could save 30% on new and used games....is that right...what are the details on this thing???.....(also I think they forgot to give me my magazine sub)

EDIT: My bad just saw it's gamerush and not gamecrazy here...but if anyone can please help to answer this anyway??

i understand the point about amassing credits at a store that basically sells everything at msrp, but my guess is the deals on pre-orders will never end (i think their first step is going to be an exclusion list and probably also decide not to count psone games towards any special deals)
