Here's the skinny on the deal:

Trade-in 1 game extra 10% trade-in value
Trade-in 2 games extra 20% trade-in value
Trade-in 3 games extra 30% trade-in value
Trade-in 4 games extra 40% trade-in value

Let the good times begin. From what has been posted in this topic there are some exclusions. Thanx to all who are providing more input on this than I can provide. Good luck to everyone.
I could be wrong, but....

I was at Gamestop today and that 40% deal is BS, I could not find a single trade value above $22, so do the math, an extra 40% gives you an extra $8.80 so $30.80 or about 80 cents above the $30 they normally give with no special, what a joke, marketing like this should be illegal.

WHAT A RIP, get the same trade in but now you have to trade in 4 games sale :(

Maybe you could put this in your topic or first message, up to you, but I asked the guy if there was anything over $22 and checked new titles like Forza, so deal just seems fake and we should complain about deceptive practices
Credit goes to Engineer_J for this info. If anyone finds out anymore info. on this please post.

Also I was at my local GS and they said that trade in 2 psp games for any other psp game deal was going on. Not that great of a deal but if you happen to have untold legends then not so bad. I have no idea if this has been posted or not, or if it is a ymmv just telling you what I was told.

This was active in the computers today, but requires an email from the mailing list to use. as far as I know.

So for games that get 30-35 dollar trade in value, you'll now get 50-55 or so if you manage to get 4 games out of this. Sounds great, I cant see how that works out in GS's favor though.

I Know for a fact that the trade 4 get extra 40% is true.

Another deal going on is trade 2 psp games, get a new one for free.

My manager told me when I went to preorder Forza today.

I can confirm the trade 4 get 40% bonus credit... just got an email newsletter from Gamestop with the deal. Doesn't mention getting less of a bonus for fewer games though.

Text from email....

"TRADE MORE GET MORE

Extra 40% credit

Offer ends 5/18/05

Trade in 4 or more games, get an extra 40% on your trade-in value!

coupon code: Trade 4 get +40 purchase

This offer applies to all DVD movies, games (PS2, Xbox, GameCube, PSP, Playstation, N64, Nintendo DS and all GameBoy/GameBoy Color), UMD movies and accessory trade-ins. Hardware trade-ins are excluded from promotional value increase. This offer cannot be combined with any other offers. DVDs accepted with box and artwork only. Some damaged discs accepted, but at a lower than normal value. Trade-ins for cash are not eligible for promotional value increase. No dealers. All trade-ins are subject to store management approval."

Doesn't say when this starts but the newsletter itself is dated 5/3/5.

Only if your Gamestop takes them. My local Gamestop shipped all their second generation stuff to another location so they no longer take anything from Nintendo to Dreamcast anymore.
does this mean the trade 2 and get a new game for $30 is over then?!!!??
GameStop and Game Rush are not the same place.

..unless GS also ran that promotion.

I guarantee that Gamestop doesn't give crap for N64 games in the first place, so I doubt an extra 40% is going to get you much past the $5 you spent on them.

This offer is only advantageous over the current "trade 3 get $5 extra" if the value of the trade-in game is over $12.50 assuming you are trading 4 games.

i should have traded in bunch of echo nights and God of War w/ this deal.. T_T..

well the give more trade in credit than they sell it for? because if they give $35 or so and you trade it in with another 3 games that means you will be getting $50 or close to it. if they sell it for $44.99, aren't they losing money on it? i hope there are no exclusions to this.
Do they really give $35 for new games?
when i went there the other day (like 2 or 3 days ago) it said that they were giving $35 for splinter cell: chaos theory. it might be YMMW

Anyone know if this includes sports games? I have an NCAA 2003 from eb for shipping purposes. It'd be great to use filler like this to get up to 4 games.

oh! so sweet, lets see, future GR deals ...

GameRush, trade 3 get game for 5$, (3 crappy 3$ games from EB Preowned) = (3 * 3) + 5 - trade in values (3$ for the junk I have) = 11$ ... Repeat 4 times = 44$ + 4 good games

trade to GameStop 4 good games 20-22 trade in values = 80 (low ball) + 32$ (additional 40%) = 112$

Thats a nice 200% profit (give or take), and it allows me to buy pc games :)

Forgive my math, but I'm generalizing so YMMV

halo 2 CE should get around $25-30 still depending on how many the GS you shop at has in stock.

And yea the deal is on. I had to put up all the signs tonight at work.

YMMV on the dupes though, at the bottom of the sign it says no doubles.

It profits them more than us (as you're forced to trade 4 averagely new games for the biggest deal), but as long as it makes everyone happy...

It works on all games along with PS1 and N64 games. Also with accessory trade ins.

Only items that do not work with it are consoles. Reason being because you would make a killing if you traded in 3 $30 credit games along with a $90 credit slim PS2.

How are Gamestop's tradein prices for DVDs. I have a bunch I wanna get rid of but nothing spectacular. I'm thinking if they give me 3 bucks a piece for 4 then that means something like $17 for 4 DVDs which I would consider alright for the DVDs I'm getting rid of.

I can guarantee that all old sports and wrestling games are denied.

here is a way to turn Blockbuster credit into Gamestop

BB 40 buck game buy 1 get 1 50%

so buy 4 40 buck games total 120+ tax

take them to Gamestop if they grab at least 20 each

20x4 = 80 + 40% Total 120

this might be a great way to turn all your Blockbuster credit into Gamestop

BTW, 40% of 80 isn't $40. It's $32 so the total would be $112.

and the teacher wonders why i flunk my math test :)

you would have to find games grabbing around 23-25 each trade in to break even or make a little profit

hmm Sounds good I will see what I can figure out over the enxt couple days. i am sure someone will form a list of values so Gamestop can get flooded with particular games...
Let the CAG times begin

The general rule of thumb is that GS will give the value listed at tradestop.com multiplied by 1.4. I don't know that this is always the case, but it correct most of the time. That said, Chaos Theory really took a nose dive thanks to the sales/drops that happened. The Xbox version should still trade for $30, but the PS2 and GC versions will be worth about $10 a piece.

haha, your math sucks

man i hope all those games at 1.4 x trade stop work cause it means like 30+ for star wars and around 25 for hot shot fore and that dont even count the 40% bonus.

I don't know which Star Wars you mean, but Hot Shots Golf Fore! gets $11.40 at TradeStop, which would translate to about $16 at GS. Where did you get the $25 amount?

Unfortunately, most of the games I'd be interested in trading are worth next to nothing at Gamestop, so that extra 10-40% bonus credit would still equal out to nothing.

Went into the store today and was told that trade-in prices had dropped with the start of the promo.

i.e.: asked about Spliter Cell: Chaos Theory (XBX) and was told that the trade-in amount was $20... which means only $28 with the extra 40%. (tradestop price would indicate $30 in trade-in)

What kind of sale is that?

Trade-in amount dropped due to Chaos Theory going on sale for $29.99.. a $20 trade-in on a $30 game is actually really, really generous.

PC, Gamecube, and PS2 prices at Gamestop dropped to $29.99 -- the XBOX version stayed at $49.99. Looking at Tradestop, the PS2 and GC trade-in prices are shown as $7.12, the XBOX trade-in price is shown at $21.38.

This isn't always the case. I just traded in Shinobi, Gungrave and Namco Museum during the trade 3 get an extra $10. Shinobi should have been $5 according to the Tradestop price times 1.4, but it only netted $3. Gungrave was suppose to be $6 but I got $5. Namco Museum was accurate at $7. I ended up with $25 of credit.

Thanks for the update, now we know it is a general rule, not an absolute rule. Has anyone traded in a game that got higher than TradeStop x 1.4, not counting incentives like the extra $5 or 40%?
