Here's the skinny on the deal:

Trade-in 1 game extra 10% trade-in value
Trade-in 2 games extra 20% trade-in value
Trade-in 3 games extra 30% trade-in value
Trade-in 4 games extra 40% trade-in value

Let the good times begin. From what has been posted in this topic there are some exclusions. Thanx to all who are providing more input on this than I can provide. Good luck to everyone.
I could be wrong, but....

I was at Gamestop today and that 40% deal is BS, I could not find a single trade value above $22, so do the math, an extra 40% gives you an extra $8.80 so $30.80 or about 80 cents above the $30 they normally give with no special, what a joke, marketing like this should be illegal.

WHAT A RIP, get the same trade in but now you have to trade in 4 games sale :(

Maybe you could put this in your topic or first message, up to you, but I asked the guy if there was anything over $22 and checked new titles like Forza, so deal just seems fake and we should complain about deceptive practices
Credit goes to Engineer_J for this info. If anyone finds out anymore info. on this please post.
I think SW 28, GOW 25, positive about SW, not sure about GOW
Thanks! Time for a trade-in... ;)

I just checked. God of War is only, ick, $22. So you get $30 if you trade it in with three other games. What a rip. And Hot Shots Golf Fore, which was $16 2 weeks ago is now a measly $9.

Actually, you could easily make a bit of money off of this deal:

GS gives $35 in credit for $50 games if traded in within the first 7-10 days, typicially.

40% of $35 is $14 so that's $49 credit per game.

You bought the game used, and used the 10% discount, so you paid about 40-42 per game. That's a 7-9 dollar profit per game. Times 4 is 28-36 dollar profit.

Rinse and repeat.

Edit: I'll check to see if it's true, or it's a deal and you can't combine with other deals.

No offense, but did you BOTHER to read any of the posts?

Summary, GS starts sale, trade prices all drop to $22 (for the newest best games, nothing higher), people complain what a rip, check this week highest price is $28, not perfect, but a lot better, you find a game at $35 give me a call, sigh.......

Thing is though, I remember something about within a week by reading the Emails at work. I'll take a look.

Anyone know what Metal Gear AC!D gets? Tradestop has it for $10.69, which would be about $15 if the `1.4x tradestop'' rule holds. Which would then be about $20 after the 40% boost. Holy crap! Checking online, gamestop sells the pre-owned and the new versions of Metal Gear for the same price. What the hell's up with that?

All of this just really makes me sad that gamestop is taking over EB. Sure, EB rapes you, but with gamestop it's more like a prison gang-rape. =(

I suppose if you want a lot of Gamestop credit for some weird reason, you could buy a bunch of Star Wars Episode III from CompUSA this Friday night for $29.99 each and trade them in at Gamestop for $39 of credit each (with the 40% bump). Outlay = $120 (for four copies), You get = $156 in Gamestop credit. $120 Nintendo DS perhaps? I guess three more would give you enough credit for a PSP. So a $210 PSP?

Just a thought.

Many stores will not take multiple copies of the same game. Also, I don't know if GS charges tax when spending trade credit, but I do know that CompUSA charges tax, which would make that $120 outlay closer to $126-$132, depending on one's tax rate. It isn't worth it. Better to just leave the games at CompUSA for people who actually want them.

I agree. Just a thought. Gamestop doesn't charge tax on your purchase if you use only credit to buy it.

Well, sure enough, SW Episode III gets just a little more than $39 as a trade-in at gamestop with the 40% deal. It's about the only one that I checked on that was more than I would have otherwise thought by more than a dollar or so.

$39.20 to be exact. I just traded mine in. And I confirm that if your credit covers the cost of the game, you pay no tax.

hmm... I'm a bit skeptical about these deals...

They may have dropped down the game values before hand... just so they can give you the same thing as before, except this time, it's giving you the feeling of a good deal.

Say they used to give $30 for game A... then now they lower it to $27 and say that you get 10% bonus... Which in the end... You end up getting only $29.7 with the new "better" deal.

In other words, they took out 10% (or whatever the "additional" bonus is) from the original "no deal" game value and call that the base value of the game... then they just give you the rest as a "deal bonus".

That is the only way that I can see that this kinda deal benefits GS or any game retail chain...

Someone has any input on this? Just my speculations, but I think it's true.

hmmm, now if we can only figure out 3 more games that give us a nice amount of credit.... :whistle2:k

Well, that seems to be the concensus of the posters here. There were a lot of games at the $30-$25 level that dropped like a rock when this whole `trade 4, get 40% more' deal started. I've also noticed in the past that used game prices seem to creep up when they do their `buy 2 get 1 free' deals too.

But yeah, right now is less of a `great deal' and more of a `trade less than 4 games at a time and really get taken to the cleaners.'

since this supposed "deal" ends today, anybody have any idea what the next deal is going to be? i'm just asking b/c i'll probably trade some games in today for the 40% more if there isn't anything better in the next week or so.
hmmm, now if we can only figure out 3 more games that give us a nice amount of credit.... :whistle2:k
Another three copies of SW Episode III. ;)

Seriously, God of War wasn't bad for $30.80 (with the 40%). Namco Museum for PS2 gives $9.80 with the 40%, which is pretty good. Ribbit King for PS2 gives $5.60 with the 40%, and if you use the PS2 Best Buy $5 off coupon, you can buy it for $4.99 plus tax (which is about $5.40 or so). So it's decent fodder to get the 40% bump, but not worth much more than that.

yeah I had got a quote at a regular Block Buster.... two weeks ago or right before this new deal. I went in about a week and a half ago to take advantage of the trade 3 get ean extra $5 each and teh games all dropped 20-38% in price....

So I am guessing they took the max savings right off the front end of the thing...

When does this new deal end?

when i asked an employee yesterday, she said it ends on the 24th of this month. however, on the first page of this thread, somebody mentions that it ended on the 18th
hehe, thanks for the advice hwong3 :)
No prob, I was actually tempted to get a couple SW EP III to trade in from the CompUSA deal, or the TRU double coupon deal so I could get lots of credit, but I thought better of it and decided to leave the games for those who actually wanted to buy and play them. :)

It's a halfway decent game, BTW.

I don't know I traded in Paper Mario 2 and Ratchet and Clank 3 and got a total of 46 bucks and Felt like I did good.

I mean Paper Mario 2 nabbed my 26 and some changed and RC3 was like 19 and some change. Considering how old they are I was pretty happy

Signs were still up today and I had no trouble doing the deal.

glad to hear it is still going on. I am going to go and get me some GBA games tomorrow since they have a lot of really good ones (getting a DS has made me want to replay a lot of them)

Just so everyone knows, I traded in some games yesterday and it worked nicely. I'll post some after 40% bump trade in values:

ATV Offroad Fury 3 (PS2) - $16.80
R-Type Final (PS2) - $9.80
Beyond Good & Evil (PS2) - $5.60
Major League Baseball 2k5 (PS2) - $11.60
Ridge Racer DS (DS) - $14.00

Also, I know but didn't trade in:
Primal (PS2) - $1.40
Madden 2005 DS (DS) - $11.60

Have fun. Now I have crap loads of Gamestop credit and nothing to buy... anyone have any good Gamestop deals to take advantage of? ;)
