New LCD monitor: white looks 'less white' on right side.

So, I received a new ASUS LCD monitor for Christmas. However, while I might be crazy, it seems like that when there's a lot of white on the screen (i.e. when using Google, or word), the right side of the screen's white seems less bright, and well, less white. It's a slight difference, and unlikely to affect gaming, but I'm wondering: am I crazy, or is this some optical illusion, or does this happen occasionally in some LCD monitors? Thanks... it's a trivial issue, but I'm curious.

When your computer is loading into Windows (assuming that is the OS that you use), how does it look when the black boot screen shows on screen? Is one side brighter than the other? It sounds like the backlight in your monitor may not be as consistent as it should be.
