WASHINGTON (CNN)— Sen. John McCain retracted Sarah Palin's stance on Pakistan Sunday morning, after the Alaska governor appeared to back Sen. Barack Obama's support for unilateral strikes inside Pakistan against terrorists

"She would not…she understands and has stated repeatedly that we're not going to do anything except in America's national security interest," McCain told ABC's George Stephanopoulos of Palin. "In all due respect, people going around and… sticking a microphone while conversations are being held, and then all of a sudden that's—that's a person's position… This is a free country, but I don't think most Americans think that that's a definitve policy statement made by Governor Palin."

Saturday night, while on a stop for cheesesteaks in South Philadelphia, Palin was questioned by a Temple graduate student about whether the U.S. should cross the border from Afghanistan into Pakistan.

"If that's what we have to do stop the terrorists from coming any further in, absolutely, we should," Palin said.

During Friday night's presidential debate in Mississippi, Obama took a similar stance and condemned the Bush administration for failing to act on the possibility terrorists are in Pakistan.

"Nobody talked about attacking Pakistan," Obama said after McCain accused the Illinois senator of wanting to announce an invasion. "If the United States has al Qaeda, bin Laden, top-level lieutenants in our sights, and Pakistan is unable or unwilling to act, then we should take them out."

McCain emphasized Sunday, Palin "shares" his view on the matter.

I'd lol if I hadn't run out of lol's during the Couric interview

Palin is going to "debate camp" at one of Mccain's 8 houses...looks like she will be under house arrest until Thursday..

She will be allowed out of 'Debate camp' to wave and be seen at one of his rallies. No word yet on whether brain surgeons will be at the 'camp'.

Palin in 'debate camp' until Thursday

Gov. Sarah Palin will now spend two and a half days near Sedona, Arizona, to prepare for Thursday's debate, instead of prepping in St Louis, as originally planned.

Sarah Palin will be at John McCain's rustic creek side home outside Sedona for what a top aide calls "debate camp."

The aide, who's part of the team prepping Palin, tells CNN they decided to take her to debate camp there because it is an "invigorating and enjoyable place to prepare for Thursday."

"SP [Sarah Palin] loves it and has her kids and Todd coming," wrote the aide in an email.

The aide said "John McCain himself came up with the idea after thinking it would be great before his next debate.

Pailin has already been hunkered down for four days in a Philadelphia hotel for debate prep with advisers.

She will take a short break Monday to attend a rally with McCain in Ohio, before heading to Arizona.
Not too surprising..She's already been in lockdown several days since the Couric interview. Since this debate is more restricted with 60 second answers, 30 second rebuttles etc, all she has to do is memorize a few short talking points to spit out at the appropriate time. If she doesn't perform well against Biden after a full week of coaching, I will seriously LOL.
That is going to turn out about as well as cramming for a test the night before.
So she's going to show up in her PJs and fall asleep, drooling on the podium? Awesome.

Compared to the first debate, I'm bringing popcorn to this one, it should be good....or a 30 second long McCain ad in a 90 minute loop.

This VP debate for me, seriously... is my most anticipated political event of the year (before the elections, of course). I want to see Sarah Palin flop hard. This debate is gonna be good!

So she is going to ace it?

It works for me.

Why do I have a really bad feeling that this VP debate is going to backfire on Biden/democrats? That he's going to destroy her so bad that she'll pick up pity votes due to "that mean old politician picking on her" and "boy, if I were in her shoes, the same thing would happen to me "

If there's a significant shift in polls on account of people thinking Palin got roughed up too much, and they think it's ok to feel that way about the person who might occupy the Vice President's position, then I just fuckin' give up on American politics.

Don't have thick skin? You're a blithering idiot? And that gets sympathy and votes? Well, then, see ya later. I'd just give up on politics entirely at that point.

Not saying you're right or wrong, but the mere premise that you might be right is infuriating. And the worst part is, you might be.

on the radio this morning they were talking about palin losing so bad it actually helps and the rep ticket, sorta like quayle and agnew who got destroyed in the debates (their reference not mine). i dont expect palin to shine, but i could see her getting hammered so hard she picks up some pity votes.

Came across a new article by neocon William Kristol basically saying McCain has mismanaged his campaign up till now.

He claims that McCain is very unhappy with the aides sent from the Bush administration and their handling of Palin, keeping her so zipped up.

One excerpt of note:

With respect to his campaign, McCain needs to liberate his running mate from the former Bush aides brought in to handle her - aides who seem to have succeeded in importing to the Palin campaign the trademark defensive crouch of the Bush White House. McCain picked Sarah Palin in part because she's a talented politician and communicator. He needs to free her to use her political talents and to communicate in her own voice.

I'm told McCain recently expressed unhappiness with his staff's handling of Palin. On Sunday he dispatched his top aides Steve Schmidt and Rick Davis to join Palin in Philadelphia. They're supposed to liberate Palin to go on the offensive as a combative conservative in the vice-presidential debate on Thursday.

Now I know many of you Palin haters will find that hilarious. Maybe it is. But if it's true, it's interesting. I've thought all along that we really haven't seen Palin yet, she's being too controlled. Not to say she's much better freewheeling it, or will be. But for the sake of amusement starvation, I hope she pulls some sort of fast one on Thursday and surprises a few.

I don't doubt that it's a possibility, but the idea that offering a vote to someone based on the politial car accident they subjected themselves to makes me very sad. I have sympathy and I have pity, but I could never vote for someone based on their self-subjected exposure of their idiocy.

thrust, I don't trust Kristol at all, but perhaps he's right. The Couric interview suggests solid evidence that it is not, however, really the case. Open her up and let her go; then we'll see how she does. Until then, we have very little to go on, and what little we have suggests that Kristol is off his rocker for thinking what he does.

I think she will do better than people think in the debate, but I don't think she could do worse than people think.

What Kristol said makes no sense. Palin said something that was her opinion and wasn't orthodox and McCain was quick to dismiss it. I wouldn't disagree that they're controlling her, but it seems that's exactly what they wanted to do from the start - regardless of who Kristol wants to blame to make McCain look better.

If McCain chose her for her talents as a communicator he sure as hell hasn't made that apparent. He must have very little control over his own campaign.

I hope for two things: Palin opens her mouth and Biden keeps his shut.

Biden has a bigger chance of blowing this debate if he doesn't apply the "filter" to what he says. But, Palin could just prove that she lacks the worldly experience necessary for the VP job.

Now she's in "debate camp."

Palin heads to 'debate camp' in Arizona
Posted: 12:33 PM ET

From CNN’s Dana Bash and Rebecca Sinderbrand

(CNN) — As some prominent conservatives begin to raise the question of whether Sarah Palin should remain on the Republican presidential ticket – and others call for her to be given more public exposure in a bid to reverse falling poll numbers – the McCain campaign is bringing the Alaska governor to John McCain’s Sedona ranch for several days of intense debate prep.

Senior campaign advisor Steve Schmidt and other top officials met Palin in Philadelphia Sunday night, and are traveling with her and McCain to a Columbus, Ohio event Monday morning. The group then heads to Arizona.

The original plan was for Palin to prepare in St. Louis, where the vice presidential debate will be held Thursday. Instead, she has already been preparing in a Philadelphia hotel for four days with advisors. She will now get ready for the debate at McCain’s rustic creek-side home — what a top aide calls "debate camp."

The aide, who's part of the team prepping Palin, tells CNN they decided to take her to debate camp there because it is an "invigorating and enjoyable place to prepare for Thursday."

"SP [Sarah Palin] loves it, and has her kids and Todd coming," wrote the aide in an e-mail, and that "John McCain himself came up with the idea.”

Late last week, in the wake of a widely-panned interview with Katie Couric of CBS News, some prominent conservatives who had supported Palin’s vice presidential bid, including National Review columnist Kathleen Parker, suggested she step down before the election.

Over the past few days, a counter-chorus has emerged, as supporters urge the campaign not to keep the VP nominee so isolated from the media and unfiltered audience interaction — to “let Palin be Palin.”

“Holding Sarah Palin to just three interviews and microscopically focusing on each interview I think has been a mistake,” former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romny told MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Monday. “I think they'd be a lot wiser to let Sarah Palin be Sarah Palin. Let her talk to the media, let her talk to people."

But one adviser involved in preparing Palin for her faceoff with Biden insists this narrative — that they're “squeezing charm out of her” — misses the point.

“It’s really hard,” said this advisor, who said Palin is still trying to get up to speed on foreign policy issues she has never faced before, from North Korea to other hot spots around the globe.

On Monday’s MSNBC interview, Romney defended Palin’s relatively thin knowledge on national security. "Look she wasn't selected by John McCain because she's an expert on foreign policy; John McCain's the expert on foreign policy. She was selected because she's a maverick. She's a person who identified with people in homes across America,” he said. “She's an executive and a governor, and that brings a lot to John McCain's ticket.

Amid the heavy scrutiny in a close campaign, Gov. Palin is under considerable pressure to make Thursday's debate a "game changer," advisers said.

Palin gave McCain a major boost in fundraising and poll standings after her selection several weeks ago. But following shaky performances in some recent interviews, and a continued reluctance by the campaign to allow her to appear in unscripted situations, her approval ratings have dropped significantly.

I can't wait for the VP debate. I'm REALLY excited for 2 things.

1) Palin fallin HARD on her ass. So hard, people start throwing sodas at her. Then, the crowd gets very ECW/WWE'esque. "GET THE fuck OUT ::clap clap clap clap clap:: GET THE fuck OUT! ::clap clap clap clap clap::...or better yet, "WE WANT PUPPIES ::clap clap clap clap clap::"

2) I want to see Joe Biden do the "Joe Biden face".  I

Well I'm talking about NOW

I love that smug look on his face. I make that face a lot.

I wouldn't want it near my pants, but, you know, it fits the bill for debate purposes.

He should probably do that to her.
If I was a woman, and some man who looked like that made that face at me for 90 minutes.. I would tremble.

.....
......:whistle2:k
........:whistle2:k

So, where can I write a letter of suggestion to the Democratic Party?

Ah yes, the "marverick" ticket, where former Bush aides are brought in to work with a combative conservative candidate. Can't *imagine* why anyone would think McCain is going to just be another four years of this administration.

Palin is a fucking joke... she can't even answer questions with an intelligent, thought-out, response... most of her sentences are broken ramblings.
