New Nintendo Switch Lite $139.99 at GameStop Store Closing

GameStop is closing a bunch of stores, and when I went into one today I saw they were clearing out new Nintendo Switch Lite consoles for $139.99. That’s a really good deal at $60 off. This is my first post, so forgive me if I’m not posting this right or in the right spot. They had a few in stock and I snagged a yellow one. I checked to make sure it was new, and it was unopened and had a sticker saying new on the side. With tax it was about $151. This is YMMV, since it depends on what’s left in stock when the store is going out of business. Good luck if you try to find one!

thx for the tip, makes no sense why gs would dump a high dollar item that is so small and easily transferable to another store(cost wise), but if they are doing massive markdowns on consoles this whole thing might get interesting.

 
Yeah. I randomly went by one in Florida on my way to Ikea. Lots of good deals. Bought a switch lite (not sure what I'm going to do with it), pre-owned games were 60% off if they were still in stock. Wanted to buy their ladder because they were selling it for $30 but the logistics to pick it up didn't work.
 
Can confirm. My local store (RIP) had a few Switch Lites and I bought one. I was going to buy a 3DS but for the same money, switch won out. The deal is 30% off new consoles. Nothing new in stock except one non folding 2DS and a few switch lites. Probably go quick if you want one, and they won't last long if this makes it to Reddit/Slickdeals.

The switch games that were left were just a few things I'd never heard of. The clerk told me those sold off weeks ago at much smaller discounts.

I wonder if Gamestop will close all the Thinkgeek stores.  I see that two in Indiana closed already.  We still have one in Greenwood and one in Castleton (both Indianapolis suburbs).  I was sad when they closed the Thinkgeek website.  If anything, with games going more digital, you'd think Thinkgeek type stores would be the way they would want to go to stay in business with video games as a side business.

 
One of these is pretty close to me. What kind of sales are the closing stores running beyond 30% off new consoles?
 
I'm somewhat priced that with high demand/easily sellable items, they wouldn't just transfer it to corporate or another store.

40-60% off used games, though everything is seriously picked over and I was interested in some last generation games (Wii/WiiU) but there are "all sales final" all over the store so good luck with those games on discs!

There might have been good deals on accessories at some earlier point but there wasn't anything left that interested me.

Clothing and statues are on sale too but most of that stuff is available for less with sales at the stores not going out of business, because the closing stores seem to be doing discounts against the original pricing as far as I can tell.

I'm somewhat priced that with high demand/easily sellable items, they wouldn't just transfer it to corporate or another store.

Agreed. Not transferring the switch lites to other nearby stores really seems like a mistake. They are "so new" that the GameStop website doesn't even have trade in prices listed for them!

It’s because they know the whole company is going out of business, they are just keeping it under wraps until it’s announced so the execs can cash out their stock before the drop to zero.
 
Wonder if the price of a switch lite will drop even lower with all these pending bankruptcy rumors swirling. Seems like corporate is getting pretty desperate and trying to amass as much consumer data they can resell before the company implodes.
 
For those that have actually seen these for 139.99, is the app/site correctly stating it's In Stock or OOS? Or is the stock for closing stores just wrong online?
 
I got 2.

All preowned games are 70% off as well, but it was slim pickings at the store I went to.

Also, apparently price drops have been happening on Thursday. Apparently it started at 20% off preowned and just keeps dropping every week.

be sure to update us, because I am pretty sure trade credit is a no go at closing stores. same with any pur benefits (10%, 20% off preowned)

 
I can confirm that you can use trade credit. I spent like $268 of trade credit on the games I got and apparently I saved like $1,652 ( based on the receipt savings tag).I went to the azusa, ca store and they had 70% off used games, 50% new games ( for xbox and ps4 but 30% for switch) , 30% consoles and accessories, 60% off collectibles. Everything was mostly picked clean and the only console they had was a xbox one x ($249) and s ($209) and a 2ds xl ($110).

Gamestops untill this year would just close without a closing sale and store managers from nearby stores would come in and transfer out everything to other stores via UPS. They did change that with the recent closings, and only 82 stores in the US are closing now. 200 will total before the end of the calendar year. This is no different than normal. They always close stores this time of year, when leases run out they dont want to renew. Gamestop made a giant mistake not closing some locations when they bought every other company that sold games years back. There are tons of unnecessary and unneeded locations still. Only reason why people are paying attention now is due to the thought they will be gone soon.

wish i wasn't at work today so I could go check one out...tried calling to see when they closed but i'm getting the "this store is experiencing technical difficulties" message when I call (google says 8 but I don't want to drive out there if they're closed since it's out of my way)...

One of the stores I ended up not going to offered holding it for a few days for me. I know it’s YMMV but if you get a hold of someone you could ask.
 
I was able to get a Switch lite at one of the stores closing, but they only had turquoise. Could I go to another store to exchange it for a different color, even though I got it at a discounted price?
 
I drove to the store last night that was semi-near me, and they are clearing everything out; no Switch consoles, but it was still worth the visit. All new games for PS4 and XB1 are half off; Switch games new are 30% off. Used games under $20 are buy five for $5. It's the one in GP, TX. 

 
Gamestop needs to close a few stores around here.  Some of them are literally across the street from each other because they bought out other chains and left the stores open.  I imagine we will see a lot more closings soon though, as the move to digital is killing them, not to mention their anti-customer practices they force on their employees.

The stock price keeps dropping as their earnings continue to fall short.  They're placing all their eggs in the new console basket for holiday this year.  If I thought the company/stock had a chance of rebounding, I would be buying it up right now.  It seems like a long shot though.  I think they'll follow Blockbuster into irrelevance.

I don't begrudge anyone their interest in frequenting GameStop or taking advantage of their store closing sales. That being said, I managed an EB Games when GameStop bought them out and the transition was ugly. I went to working for a company that genuinely gave a few shits about their employees to one that was willing to treat them terribly in order to squeeze out a few more percentage points of profit. Probably why they won out, but they were a rotten company 20 years ago. Hopefully they've improved.

Regardless.... If their business ends, I'll personally smile a little smile.

Clearing out all their used stuff at steep discounts makes sense to me because they didn't pay full price for that stuff but selling brand new consoles and games that already have slim margins at a loss just to avoid transferring them to another store is crazy.

 
No matter how I feel about the company or even some unpleasant individual employees/experiences, GameStop employs a lot of people and a lot of folks are going to lose their jobs when they close down. That stinks.

I certainly won't cry knowing some of their business practices. But what really took them over the edge was Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo selling directly to the customer. You can now find great deals on digital games and now Microsoft is pushing Game Pass Ultimate (and they have converted me). Videogaming is going digital, it just happened a lot sooner than Gamestop expected.

 
Not a single one closing in Oregon. Damn. There are 4 within, like, 5 miles of each other. How are they all avoiding the ban hammer?! lol

I went to 2 closing stores today and neither accepted trade credit or gift cards. They still had plenty of Switch Lites. They're not popular? I thought a cheapie Switch would go fast. I picked one up.
 
those of you picking up things like a switch lite - were they showing up on the app as in stock? 

a few weeks back pretty much everything at the closing store stopped showing in stock. Not sure if its because they pulled all the stock off the tracker, to stop people trying to do in store pickup etc. 

some stuff would make sense, but they still had many overpriced items that I wouldnt have thought would be sold.

Hopefully I can save you some time. The online stock for closing stores is not accurate at all. I have 3 stores in my vicinity closing. 1 is just moving their stuff to another store, 2 others are liquidating everything. The 2 liquidating stores had various things as being In Stock online, but wasn't in the store. The 2 games I did buy (old DS games) were not showing as in Stock online.

Both stores have Xbox One's and PS4's, but online shows no stock. Online claims both have Switch Lite's and neither actually has had any for days evidently.
 
Luckily I was able to use store credit. Sucks I just foundout about the sale today or else I would’ve shown up on Friday when it started.
