Even though I already have Phantasy Star Collection for the GBA, this sounds like a must-purchase, esp. with the inclusion of part IV which ties all of the loose strings of the series together quite nicely, improved graphics and the best-named RPG character (Myau the cat from PS1).

Back in the day, I paid $100(!) for the Genesis version of part IV, which I believe came on a 32meg cart. Of course, I was also one of the idiots who owned a 32X and Cosmic Carnage (worst.game.ever.)...and THEN bought a Saturn four months later for $400 (not that I regret that purchase).

I already have PS collection for GBA as well so the fact that PS III isn't on there doesn't bother me... but why wasn't it included? Doesnt seem like they would very much trouble with space, even with imporved graphics/sound.... interesting.

I think I tried playing PS1 on the PScollection on GBA. Even though I'm not a graphics whore, it was tough to swallow that pill. But then again it's not like I'm running out of other games to play. I'm sure that goes for most of us here as well =)

I'm guessing part III is excluded it's basically a side story with multiple endings that doesn't lend itself to continuity with the others. If I remember correctly, the space colony from part III is only mentioned in passing - very briefly - in part IV. It's also the worst game in the series.

that was my problem and the reason you now have my copy.

For those of you not keeping up with the import scene (which is just a shame), Sega Ages are remakes of classic Sega games such as Outrun, Phantasy Star, and Virtua Racing.

The Japanese have not remade part III themselves yet.

The lineup that has already been released for the Sega Ages games are here

I'm not sure how many they are going to do, but I think they have planned upto about 17 or 18 at this point. I don't think Phantasy Star II and IV are even going to come out in Japan until about September, so I'm not surprised that this compilation is not coming out until first quarter 2005.

I will definately be picking this up...I have the original Phantasy Star games for my Genesis, and I'm pretty sure the batteries in those carts are probably getting pretty close to dying...if they are not dead already. I would import the remakes from Japan IF I could read japanese. I suppose I could get the GBA version, but the idea of squinting over my GBA reading lines of RPG text makes me squirm-I'd probably go blind if I tried to complete all 3 games on GBA. Hell, I'd be amazed if anyone didnt go blind after completing Phantasy Star 2....

Back in the day, I never paid $100 for Phantasy Star 4...I was too cheap/broke back then, even more so than I am now. But I did pick it up on clearance at TRU for $25 about 6 months after it was originally released. (Heh, a $100 game that didnt become a bestseller, what a shocker!) Now that was CAG deal!

After looking at some of the screenshots Im supprised that SCEA is allowing this to be released. They seem to prevent 2-d PS2 games as much as possible.

i think ps1 is the best graphical 8-bit game ever, its so vivid and colorful, i find it holds up well today. now ps2 on the other hand...

They arnt against 2d so much as they are against games with low potential for the dollar, it just happans that most of the games they concider low in potential to be 2d (possibly due to the lack of a 3rd dimension). Notice that they made these packages where as they sell separatly in Japan, it's easier to sell a bunch of things together because it looks more like a deal. (and it very well may be)

After all they let La Pucelle and Disgaea through and dispite the 3d BGs they're essentially 2d.

yeah couldn't get into PS either. just too hard, too early.

Too bad PS3 isn't added in the collection. Maybe the 3D Ages team is going to do something special for that.
