New PS3 and Wii coming very soon

My first post.... Take it easy,

I work for rent-a-center in the Cincinnati area and we received a e-mail today to get rid of all of our PS3 and Wii's before the new slimline PS3 and HD Wii come to our stores. This may be old news by now but first I had heard of it being that I am working up to 60 hours a week.... Thought I would pass it on to fellow gamers. Wondering if this is a leak of what is to happen next week at E3.....

Keep'um calloused

This.

you never know rent a center is a pretty big chain so whose to say this store and others dont already know what may be coming in the land of consoles. that said this news could lead to a drop in ps3 console prices as hey make way for the slim ps3s. or the slim ps3s could be cheaper than the regular ones.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a new Wii.

It'll probably just be a different color though. Maybe it'll have a bigger HDD?

There's been rumors of both around the net for a while now, so I wouldn't be surprised.

Though I think the Wii HD stuff I read was just an analyst saying there would be no new consoles on the usual 5 year cycle, with an HD version of the Wii being the only upgrade in the next 6 or 7 years. Think it was on Gamespot a month or so ago.

But I suppose, contrary to the above poster, that maybe they plan to launch a Wii HD console bundled with the motion plus stuff for $300 or something to get sales to jump again. The Wii is still selling great obviously, but it's finally sitting on shelves now and I finally see them in stores all the time.

nintendo has no intentions of re-designing the wii. they will however may release new colors or have special case designs or somewhere along those lines but they will not redesign the wii.

the ps3 is however likely to undergo a redesign.

Can I have the URL to the ass you pulled that info out of?

I really can't see Nintendo releasing an HD Wii, they own the market right now, they can still milk a lot more money out of the Wii.

I wonder though, if they did release an HD Wii if they could somehow make it so the HD games still played on an original Wii, downgraded of course, kind of like the Burger King games that played in the original XBOX and the 360. That would be the only way to not splinter the market.

Really. It wouldn't have to be much of a redesign. Just through in a bit more power, and an HDMI port so it can do HD for future games going forward.

I think we could possibly see a new Wii bundle, first for the US, with some games packed in like Wii Sports Resorts. In addition, I wouldn't be surprised if Wii Sports Resorts doesn't include all the Wii Sports games because they don't sell that in the US separately.

I was thinking the PS3 Slim was fake but the box art compared to the PSP Go is very similar. It is possible that Sony will try to market both products together.

Same. I also got the scoop from Brandsmart USA about the Xbox|nexT with thought control licensed from Emotiv. It comes in two colors: prismatic purple/green or opal and has a Red-Ray drive and 3d holographic projection. Gamestop has it for pre-order Monday.

Nintendo announced awhile ago that a HD Wii was on the way. I can't believe it'd be this soon though. We'll know at E3 for sure, same for the PS3 Slim.

Why, were you expecting it to be bigger?

Well played, you witty bastard. XD

The HD Wii makes a little sense. More internal memory to support VC games, etc. Wasn't Netflix looking at starting a streaming program on the Wii?

There's no HD Wii coming. Nintendo flatly denied it. A few times, in fact - just run a google search and you can see this happening multiple times, all the way back to 2007 and a number of times in 2008.

It was nothing more than speculation from Michael "Always Wrong" Pachter.

I'm pretty amazed this completely-wrong-rumor persists.

HD = high definition, HDD= hardrive. Although I have to agree, it would make a lot of sense to release a Wii with an actual hardrive in it.

This must be my problem, I've been relying on Taco Bell for my leaks, but haven't gotten anything gaming related in a while.

Now that Nintendo has released the DSi I do actually believe an HD Wii is a possibility. A console that will sell alongside the normal Wii, but will have a couple of gigs of flash memory and will upscale Wii games for hardcore gamers and AV people.

Upscale shitty resolution? Most HD tv's will do that for you. You dont need a new Wii to see big crappy graphics.

All we got was a e-mail from corporate office saying that we needed to sell all of our Wii's and PS3's. the new models (PS3 slim and Wii HD) would be coming to rent-a-center very soon... we have over 3000 stores and average 8 to 10 units on hand per store per system. That's not including on rent. Pretty big buying power. Not as big as a Best Buy or a other major retailer but we rely on moving product. Prices on rentals were dropped too... For those who don't believe me go to a rent-a-center and you will see Wii's for 19.99 previously 27.99 a week and PS3 for 27.99 when they were 31.99 a week.

By the way I know I work for a "greedy" company but it is a job in this tough economy.

They wanted all units gone by the end of June no matter what.

Any questions shoot...

how much they selling them for?

i think its very likely that the ps3 slim will be released soon cuz its the natural cycle of playstations because there was a ps1 fat then ps1 slim.ps2 fat then ps2 slim.psp fat then psp slim.ps3 fat then ?

it really doesn't make since if there going to be wii hd coming soon cuz wii sales are doing pretty good right now

Sure it's bigger but it never wants to work. jk jk.
279.00 to 350.00 on a 90 day rental..... 2 controllers wii sports and wii play...
if yall need to get rid of them you are surely going to actually sell them in anticipation of the new models right? How much are ya'll selling they for?
I've been waiting for a black Wii. I hope that's what it is.
I remember those pics showing different colored Wii's, I was a bit bummed when that never happened :/

A Wii with a HDD does not matter now that we have SD support.
A Wii with HD graphics would be better since the games would look better.

Many 360 and PS3 games are rendered in resolutions close to SD and upscaled to 720p 1080i/p. Does that meant they also have shitty graphics?

Emulators running upscaled Wii games, and especially Wii games actually rendered in HD resolutions produce beautiful graphics.

I really don't understand how that moron still has a job. He suddenly popped out of the blue one day and suddenly his word is God in the gaming industry. fuck that guy.

It may well just be a bad rumor from the analyst (like I said above). But it does make some sense as they could charge a bit more for it (or at least prevent a price drop longer) whenever sells start to drop off some more.

But on the other hand, Nintendo has shown no willingness to focus on anyone more than kids, non-gamers/casual gamers and fanboys who haven't tired of their same old franchises and non of those groups are beating their doors down wanting HD graphics.

I always think Rent-a-Center for when I want a new console. That way I can get the Wii HD for $1200 once I have it paid off!

Rent-a-Center is worse than payday loans.

The thing is RAC really targets a different market than what CAG represents.

That being said this would be crazy if true.

Like I said, I don't work for the best company and true enough we do rip alot of peoplr off but a job is a job...

Is it possible that they're clearing out consoles because not many are rented at those wallet-bleeding prices? And not because, as you speculate, there's a new generation coming.

Besides, were there to be a new Wii, we would have seen it at the Nintendo reveal. Secondly, production and shipment take time, best case would be a late 2009 launch. Why would a retail store attempt to sell out more than six months before the replacement product began to arrive?

How many $1000 Wii and PS3 consoles does Rent-A-Center sell/rent compared to a MSRP retail chain? Heck, how many do they stock?

If the goal is to liquidate inventory to prevent obselecense, wouldn't a leak have occurred from someone Best Buy, GameStop, Wal-Mart, etc? Those 3 have a lot more to lose than Rent-A-Center.

The company with the largest # of stores with the lowest rate of sale would have the most to lose. That fits Rent-A-Center to a T.

That means it is very possible that new version are coming, but the OP hasn't really given us anything new. We know a new PS3 and Wii are coming. Specifically what they will be and when they come out are the questions.

Maybe it's true. HD could also stand for hard drive. It's all speculation and BS until it's actually in stores. But then again, this is the Internet.

Nintendo confirmed no need for a HD wii, so it's not coming anytime soon. Maybe a HDD one, who knows. I think if the PS3 was coming out with a slim anytime soon, they would have announced it at E3 time.

There is a black wii coming out in japan though.
