Kotaku reports that as part of the Force Unleashed ad, it shows a PS3 controller with the left dpad and analog stick switched, creating an offset layout much like the Xbox or gamecube controller. I know quite a few here complained about the way the two analog sticks were placed in the Dual Shock 2 design, and I agree it was time for somet kind of over haul.

And of course, it's likely this new version will include rumble, if it exists.

It could just be a crappy photoshop job. However, it's directly on the Force unleashed site. I guess that is the new controller since Lucasarts would have no interest in photoshopping a new controller rumor. Of course, it could just be a prototype.

I hope they improve the grip to it too, maybe make the trigger surface concave.

Uggg. I've always thought the Dual Shock was the perfect placement. Why in the world would they change it for such a vocal minority?

No way, you have to have your hands in an awkward position.

I like the Photoshopped design.

Why someone would 'shop that is beyond me.

I think Sony just needs to redesign an entirely new controller.

I think the 360 has the GREATEST controller ever, so I would welcome a similiar controller on the PS3. The PS3 controller just feels small. I guess once rumble is installed it will have that bulk/heavy feel back....but I would like a redesign.

I've been bitching about the PS3 not having off-set analog sticks for ages.

That shit just feels wrong, otherwise -- especially in games where you move with one analog stick, and turn the camera with the other.

That's why I can't play FPSs on the PS2. It just feels wrong.
The 360 has the best controller except for the shoddy d-pad.
The d-pad sucks on the 360 controller, but the PS3 controller is still the most perfect controller ever. D-pad is nice, analog sticks are perfect. It's very light weight. The size of the controller is PERFECT for my hands.

That controller is completely photoshop, and you can easily see why. Kotaku is full of shit like always.

The dual shock style controller is the best for people who don't have tremendous hands.

People who find the regular sticks uncomfortable suck at games, are too old or have oversized hands ;) .

You know, I have pretty big hands, and for all the complaining I hear people do, the PS and GC controllers have never bothered me too much. In truth, I find almost all game controllers uncomfortable after long play times, but I don't play for house anymore like when I was a kid. So maybe the people complaining do p0lay for hours. I am much more bothered by playing the DS than I have ever been by the PS controller.

That would be a welcomed change. The dual shock is one of my least favorite controllers for primarily this reason. Near unusable for me in dual analog games like FPS.

As I commented on Kotaku, it's fake. The person who made the layout did a Yahoo Image search for ps3 controller and that image popped up.

End of thread.

You have dainty girl hands.

I don't see anyone disputing that fact -- it's clearly a 'shop.

We are, however, discussing the possibility of a new Dual-Shock controller.

So, not the end of the thread.

that's a terrible photo...
they didn't even shop out the original d-pad cross, and the d-pad itself looks like it wants to jump out of there immediately.

I for one think the dual shock design is perfect for me. Granted I don't play many fps's, but it didn't bother me when I played Resistance. It's not like i was movin sideways when I meant to move forward and whatnot. Just gotta train your thumbs to move the right muscles lol

It may be a prototype they shipped to developers, using basically the same outer casing (hence they didn't remove the dpad cross) .
