I finally decided to pick up a ps3 today. I know the usual games people say to buy (valkyrie, uncharted, lbp) and so I figured I would give you guys a list of games I like and see if anyone has any other suggestions. Also, I'm going to put a list of games I already have for the ps3.

Ratchet and Clank: A Crank in Time (own)
LittleBigPlanet (own)
Demon's Soul's (own)
Uncharted (will pick up one of these days)

My favorite games from this generation were tales of vesperia, fable 2, fallout 3, oblivion, assassin's creed, rainbow 6 vegas, and forza 3.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Infamous (really was enveloped by the story the first time through. Kind of surprised by it, actually)

I'd say Heavenly Sword is excellent, if you enjoy God of War gameplay. If you don't already have Mirror's Edge and you're looking for a platformer, it's not a bad choice. And since you liked Assassin's Creed, Prince of Persia should also be to your liking. Since you didn't list FPS I won't recommend Killzone or Resistance.
 
I second Infamous...Demon's Souls....COD4 and Bioshock if you have not played those. Uncharted 2 for obvious reasons as well.

As for MGS 4 - IMO Uncharted & UC2 were better, but for a game, er movie it was pretty good. I would say skip it if you do not have 10+ hours to devote strictly to watching the cut scenes.

Resistance is another good one...I could not really get into the second one or Killzone 2 though. To each his own.....
 
Borderlands if you don't own it for your 360, this game has been a blast. The GoW collection is also a nice suprise, the graphics look very good in HD.
 
I'm thinking of picking up the GoW collection now that you guys mentioned it...same with MGS4.

Most likely also picking up LAIR and Heavenly Sword.

SWTFU - really? I could not make it 15 minutes in that game, it has the worst controls I've ever seen. To each his own, but the game did get middle of the road reviews as well.

I agree with Batman and Dead Space...forgot about those two earlier. The original Modern Warfare was awesome as well. I think I've played and liked most of the games you mentioned.

If you liked Oblivion, you might like Demon's Souls as well....definitely a lot more dying in the game, but I think it was the best RPG made this year. Dragon Age as well, if you do not have it for another platform.

If SWTFU has the worse controls you've ever seen, than you've clearly not played many games. I won't say the controls are great (even though I think they're fine), but they are NO WHERE NEAR the worse controls ever. Maybe they are the worse controls you've ever seen...but man...I can't really say that's a far-fetched statement because I don't know what games you have played but seriously? SWTFU has fine controls in my opinion. The main motivation for playing is the story. I'm not a STAR WARS fan or a Sci-Fi for that matter, but SWTFU has an awesome story....I say go for it.
