New PS3s @ gamestop for $449.99

well that's a fucking rip off, should be $100 off for all the missing stuff it comes with. I assume they want to get rid of 20gbs fast too, idiot gamestop

Those bastards, I was ready to pounce on one of those when word of the impending drop for the 60gig models was leaked here. Then suddenly they vanished from the website, now they've reappeared, ready to play upon people's concerns about future backwards compatibility issues. What a class act they are.

You guys are complaining about the PS3 being $450. I am surprised they even did that, I assumed that: 1. There were no more 20gb's 2. They'd keep the price of the 20gb's.

And it's not the "gimped" version. . . it is perfectly fine, just doesnt have wireless and a memory card reader.

What am I missing?

The 60 gig PS3 dropped $100 or almost 20% of it's initial price. The $50 drop on the 20 gig model is only a 10% drop in price. I think that's the issue.
 
Just picked up a refurb 20GB for $370 from gamestop. Finally, nex gen can begin! Now I've got to wait for my monoprice HDMI cable and I'll be all set!
 
I'd die of shock if even one of these sells. $450 + tax + shipping = almost the same price as Amazon with no tax and free shipping.
 
If you don't have use for any of the extras, then I could see this being useful. Even if I didn't want the Wi-Fi or memory card slots, I'd probably still just jump on the 60GB version. I'm sure that extra 40GB will come in handy sometime in the future.

When the form first came out, it specifically said 60GB only, but at some point that language was removed- maybe they decided there were so few 20GBs out on the market it wasn't worth restricting them? (and Sony probably wanted to clear them out of the channel)

The 20GB can play BD movies fine. It just might be questionable if you actually get the movies. (I would think at this point you could argue it, since the 60GB restriction is gone)

Perhaps they didn't want to exclude the upcoming 80 GB version. That is, if the promotion lasts that long.

Word. Also if you rummage through Craig's List you can find better deals for $450. I got lucky with the last two PS3 Craig's List deals over the past 2 months.

No you can't. You can, however, get one with 3x the space for 50 bucks more. ;)

Anyway, I just got a PS3. I don't remember in which thread it was mentioned, but FYE is selling the 20GB model for $399.99. I called every location in Tampa Bay and found the only 20GB in the area. I was planning to swap in a larger hard drive no matter which model I bought, and I don't need wireless, so this is perfect for me. Now I just have to hope that the 5 free BR movie promo will really work with the 20GB.
