New RAM not recognized on Laptop! HELP CAGs!!

I just got this new RAM, 2x1GB. I currently have 2x512MB. When I installed it and tried turning on my computer everything was fine for about 5 seconds and then it just stayed there doing nothing. Everything fired up and then it was quiet. The power button i on and it seems the computer is on to some point but nothing loads and the screen does not turn on. I put back the old RAM and it runs perfect. Does anyone have any advice. i don't have another computer to test the RAM and I am 110% sure it's the right RAM. It's a Gateway CX2724 BTW and the new RAM is Kingston.
All advice welcome.

What's the speed of your old RAM and what's the speed of the new RAM? (e.g. PC2 4200 or DDR2 667)

Make sure you got the right kind of RAM.

DDR2 PC2-5300 667... I think

Edit: I do have the right RAM

Make sure the new RAM is seated properly. If it is then either the RAM is defective or you don't have the right type after all.

Try only putting in one at a time to see if one of the modules is defective.

So I tried putting them in for a third time and it worked. I don't know what I was doing wrong if anything, I did the exact same thing and it started like normal. Now I have twice the RAM!

This is one reason why I hate laptops-the fitment of every removable part is so damn finicky.
