Not exactly cheap but if you missed the boat many, many years ago (like me) and have wanted a Skeleton Saturn for many, many years (like me) play-asia.com has them in stock. I emailed them to see if this was real and they said that yes, the systems are brand new. God knows where they found them but mine is already on it's way. Here's the link to the specific page.

What's the difference? Just a different case and controller or does it do something special to make it worth $200 more than a normal Saturn?

I would like to know this too. Is the idea behind this system is it plays imports? I already have a US saturn capable of playing imports. So I dont need this do I?

The skeleton ones have a clear case. Well, kind of smoky grey. There was another one that was known as the Derby Stallion Saturn that had a transparent blue case.

If you already have a Saturn to play Japanese games, this won't let you play any other games that you can't already. As far as it's compatibility issues, the only games I can think of that won't work on this are the Sega Ages release of Space Harrier and the Japanese version of In the Hunt (can't recall the very long japanese title).

If you are into collecting videogame systems, this is for you, if not, move along. For the record, I'm not going to be playing this, it will instead take a place of honor next to all my other versions of the Japanese Saturn that I have hanging around.

It's basically one of the last production runs of Saturn (right before the Derby Skeleton)--mostly cosmetic differences with the case and controller being translucent grey and has "This is Cool" screened on the lid. The Skeleton apparently has some issues with the Japan versions of Metal Slug, Strikers 1945 II, OutRun, and Space Harrier--I have not seen any other games mentioned in any of the FAQs I've read, and I don't know exactly what kinds of issues users reported. So far, I've only experienced glitches with Soukyugurentai on my US Saturn using the Action Replay. The units originally came out for a little over $200, and are relatively rare, hence the premium price on Play-Asia.

This post is actually a bit old as PA has had these in for weeks now--they had Derby Skeletons, too, but those sold out.

nice find. now all i need is a clear atari jaguar to go with my clear atari jaguar cd system so i can enjoy myst on cdrom.

man i miss the saturn.

i still have on American Black Saturn and a Japanese White Saturn both working perfectly

the JPN one plays all games, maybe I should sell the American one. but nobody likes Saturn. its like a bastard child from Sega.

I worship my Saturns. It's probably my favorite videogame system of all time. My most played games of the 32/64 bit era were on the Saturn in the form of X-men vs. Streetfighter and Fire Pro Wrestling S.

I had no idea this was something that had been at Play-asia for a while. I stumbled across it while shopping for the Fatal Fury Collection for PS2. Sad to hear they had the Derby Stallion editions too, I would've liked one of them just as much.

Not true.

Space Harrier is indeed having problem with Skeleton Saturn, not sure about Outrun.

I have played Metal Slug & Strikers 1945 II on my Skeleton and they are flawless fine.

I have a Japanese White Christmas Nights One and two NTSC versions. One older and one newer. Id still like to get one. But 250 aint happenin' right now. Great find!

Please excuse my ignorance as I can not get to the link right now...but this is a Japanese version correct? So I am assuming it will not play US games, is that correct?

Interesting. I've heard reports of problems with both of those games--glad they are working for you, though.
^ Yep Japanese System. You could get a Keycard that way the system is unmodified and you can still play American Games on it.
Thanks.

Out of curiousity, does anyone how much they were selling the Derbys for? I picked one up years ago, made sure it worked, and basically left it in the box once I got my ST-Key (it's kind of my back-up Saturn)...
