New Space Invaders game for DS?

i've been waiting for someone to try ordering this... i'd like to see if it actually arrives or not.

i'm pretty certain that the game doesn't exist and it's just an amazon error.

the box art says it's a mastiff game, but they have no record of it on their site. jack of all games is a developer, but not a distributor. and the box art doesn't have an ESRB rating, and you know that wouldn't fly nowadays.

so... if you order it and actually receive the game, please let me know so i can snag myself a copy. but until i hear that somebody actually gets it, i'm just gonna assume that it's another mistake by amazon. they do this a lot.

yeah, i know that JOAG has it listed and dated like that, but again, they just made the game, they're not distributing it. they have no control over when it'll actually be released, so their dates don't mean all that much. according to their site, destination is publishing the title, despite their box art which clearly shows it as mastiff. neither destination nor mastiff's sites mention anything about it.

but if you're just looking for some impressions on it, you could look for reviews of the japanese game. it's the same thing, and it's been out for months. in fact, i just saw it at frys the other day (yes, they carry a few imports there). that'll give you a rough idea of what to expect, and then you can roll the dice on ordering from amazon, or just import the japanese one.

but again, PLEASE let me know if you order it and actually receive an american version of the game, so i can order one too or go hunting for it at a toys r us.

I was interested also... I want to keep this thread going in case someone ahs found a local version..

unless its like Nanostray and hard to get...?

I saw a copy today at a local record store. Didn't really give it a second glance because one of the reviews I read of it said it was pretty much the same as the old Space Invaders only with the touch screen gimmick. I might pick it up when it's cheaper though.

you saw it today? and it wasn't an imported copy or anything?

interesting... looks like i might actually have to track this one down after all.

Well good luck then. I don't think it's rare, it just might be before its official release.

Keep us updated if you find it, and how it plays.

I saw it today at my local wal-mart for 19.82. For some odd reason there was no one working the electronics department, and my wife was ready to go home, so I will have to get it next time..... You might want to check your local wal-mart if you have one near by; if the one near me has it, then pretty much all wal-marts should have it......

well i'm happy to admit that i was wrong... this game DOES exist!

front of the case

back of the case

i found it today at walmart for $20, so if you're searching for it, they seem to be the best place to look.

unfortunately, i also must say, this game should have been even cheaper. there's two modes of play, classic and new style. the classic brings no surprises. the new style has beefed up graphics and plays more like a mission mode, giving you objectives to complete rather than just playing for a high scrore. in my opinion, this is how retro atari classics should have been made, because for a space invaders game, this is a great one.

but at the same time, it's just space invaders. nothing so groundbreaking that it really warrants the purchase unless you're a hardcore space invaders fan. the touchscreen use is minimal, and i found it easier to just play with the buttons. it could have benefitted from a multiplayer mode of some sort, but i'm still not sure that it would have made much of a difference.

i'm glad that i got it because i really enjoy playing the old arcade classics on the go, and again, this is a really solid space invaders game. it does the title justice. but most people will probably feel more comfortable waiting until it (inevitably?) drops to $10 or so, given the amount of stuff that's included (or not, as the case may be).

Thanks for the review of it, maybe I will hold out till I can find it a little cheaper. Maybe bestbuy will get it some time and I can get it 5 bucks cheaper.....

Fry's has the import of this game for like $50 or $60... They had a bunch of DS and PSP imports but I didn't have time to look through them.

i actually completed the game (unlocked everything, etc.) in two days, playing only off and on. there's really not much bang for your buck here, unless you're desperate for portable space invaders on your DS, and don't already have a gba version. (is there a gba version? i'd imagine so...)

i stick with my original comments though. i could see people being happy to pay $10 for it, $20 is way too much. cheap ass people on here should probably even wait until $5 clearance bins.

I wonder if we'll see some more under the radar DS games. I know I've never heard of this. I hope to find if at frys or some other place for 10.

Hmm, I believe I've seen a GBA space invaders version at some point, though I can't remember where. Being a massive retro games fan (I even own the domain name www.spaceinvaders.com ;) ), I think it's really cool that Space Invaders is available for the DS. From the sound of things it may not be that easy to find a copy of the game in the US, but in the UK it's really easy (it's one of the only games available atm, so everwhere has it).

I think they could have done more with the game though, rather than just a straight port. i.e. multiplayer options or online play could have made this game a must-buy. Space Invaders is a pretty neglected franchise imho, there is so much that could be cool about it if done properly...

I also saw Space Invaders Revolution at Meijer for $19.99 this past weekend.

Coincidentally, I picked up Activision's Space Invaders for the GBA on a whim about a week ago. It was $9.99 used at EB, and I have to say, it's the best Space Invaders game I've ever played. It retains the classic formula of the original while mixing in power-ups, boss fights, and a nice variety of aliens. If you prefer the classic arcade version, it includes that too.

If your a Space Invaders fan, my advice is to get the cheaper GBA version and play that while you wait for Revolution to drop to the $10 range. From the reviews I've read for Revolution, the GBA version is probably the better of the two. It received an 81 from IGN.

I also get a kick out of playing Space Invaders on the Atari 2600 emu for the PSP. But that's a discussion for a different forum.
