Since we've had a bunch of random threads about this and it's launching soon, I figured I'd make an offical one for us to yak before and after it comes out. To get the CAG hype machine into full gear, I present you with this painful quote:
played through about 10 levels of the game during my morning break and am pleased to report that it is indeed the greatest thing ever. Sweet Lord, what an awesome game.
Sounds promising, but how much credence can we put in the word of Mr. Matt "Big Titties" C?

And change the title to list a specific date - unless the game will always and forever be a week and a half away. ;)

I'll keep it updated... maybe. ;)
The game looks outstanding, and I'll be picking it up ASAP, but what kind of shit-ass name is "New Super Mario Bros."?
well you have to break it down to see how good it is. First NEW is good, everyone likes new stuff. SUPER is super enough said. MARIO well thats prob the most known character in video games next to maybe pacman nothing wrong that. Finally we got BROTHERS, and family comes first. So we have a title thats good, super, well known, and comes first, sounds like a winner to me.

Haha, I thought the same thing (and that lame *new* bubble). I guess all their naming people were too busy coming up with "Wii" that they didn't have time to actually think up a name. :p

:( i sold my DS and will be purchasing a DS lite the day it comes out... i have to wait an extra 3 weeks or so for this game :(
"New Super Mario Bros." is possibly the most uncreative name I've ever heard in my entire life.
Perhaps, but think about it for just a moment. Everyone and thier uncle has heard of "Super Mario Bros," and by calling it "New" it tells even the most un-game-savvy people that this is a new game in that series. Likewise, it's not so much following in the footsteps that were laid out with 2, 3, World, etc., as it is reinventing the first game.

For now, I'm fine with the title. In 3 years?

Any idea if this game will be in short supply? My DS is out of commission right now, and I'm basically going to hold off and get a Lite in June. So you guys think it would be a good idea to pick up a copy just to ensure I get a copy?

I can just picture having this conversation 20 times:

"I just picked up that 'New Super Mario Bros.' game."

"Oh yeah? What's it called?"

"..."

It's a Nintendo published game. And argubly the biggest Nintendo published game in a decade. The answer is a resounding, "No."

The next line for me would be *punch person in face and/or cock*

Therefore in some cases, you could do both at the same time.

Definitely.

so basically you're asking if it'll become rare? it would become the world's most expensive game in a very short period of time.

I'm just more concerned that I wont have a copy when I get my Lite(see my post about how I broke my DS, thats the only reason I'm worried). I'm sorry if it sounded like I was hoarding or planning to hoard. I just don't want to miss out on this.

oh no, I wasn't accusing you of hoarding, it was just funny to think about how the world would go into complete chaos if they only printed, say, 5000 copies of the game.

Maybe, just maybe, it might sell out on the first day, but by June 11th that won't be a problem.

I think the name is great; it plays to the fact that this is the first new standard Super Mario Bros. game in..what, 15 years? Maybe more?

To quote a friend of mine:
"There are two kinds of people in the world. Those who are excited about New Super Mario Bros., and retards."

Ah good point. I'm just thinking a head now, because I decided to hold off on Pheonix Wright, and I've been kicking myself in the ass since then, so I kinda hold a bit of paranoia once a new game that has a "big name" to it comes out. But yeah, good point it really doesnt seem like this would be in short supply.
I really wonder why they didn't go with "Super Mario Bros. 4" for the name...
I would have bought 4 copies of the game if they had done that.

I have a feeling this is gonna be the second DS game that keeps me glued to my DS (the first being Ouendan).

May 15th can't get here fast enough.
The game looks outstanding, and I'll be picking it up ASAP, but what kind of shit-ass name is "New Super Mario Bros."?
Would you rather:

Super Mario Bros. Extreme

Super Mario Bros. Unleashed

Super Mario Bros. Underground

Super Mario Bros. Legends

super mario bros legends would be sweet haha
omg after watching the video I think I just wet myself. But I am kinda sad that you can't use yoshi in the game :(
Yoshi is playable in the new Yoshi game.
Or maybe "Densetsu no Mario Bros Gaiden DX"
I like that name, actually. Although I am sure some people would think that Mario became a ninja if "Gaiden" is included in the title.

That'd be fucking sweet!

In the middle of watching this I decided to stop. I'm going to get this game no questions asked so I decided I don't want anything to be ruined by seeing it in advance.

That being said....is it May 15th yet?

They should have called it Super Mario Bros. DS (Die Sony). For those of you who can't understand it....this is a joke and only a joke.

One of the distinguishing characteristics of a joke though is that it elicits laughter...

That is true, so very true.

I laughed at that statement, so does that make what you said a joke? ;)

I'm going to buy two copies when it comes out - one for me, one for my nephew. And he had damn well better love it or I will disown him. I bought him Yoshi's Island for his DS, and he doesn't like it. Oh, the shame I feel.
