Please don't flame me for yet another "what game should I buy?" thread.

What's the best soccer game for n64?

Best 1 or 2 sports games?

Best kids games for a boy under 5?

Is Goldeneye as good as it's reputation? Zelda?

Pleny of sites have their Top X number of games for N64 lists but do you agree any of with them?

I picked this up in trade to keep my kids away from the 360 ;) but I plan on having fun with it too.

thanks,

RC

1. I have no idea what Soccer game to get but according to Metacritic, International Superstar Soccer '98 is the game of choice.

2. I recommend an NFL Blitz game (2000 is my favorite) and a Mario sports title such as Tennis or Golf. If you like the Tony Hawk series, THPS1 was my favorite but I also like the others.

3. Some good kid games are Mario Kart or Diddy Kong Racing. Super Smash Bros and the Mario Party's are fun too.

4. Yes, Goldeneye does live up to the hype if you don't try and make it into something its not (ex. Halo). Zelda OoT is one you will love as well.
I actually just started playing this again recently and love it.

Heres a good list of games with their scores and things incase you want to check it out.

Hopefully this helps.

Aside from Mario 64, which is a given, two of my all-time N64 faves were Rare's Banjo Kazooie and Blast Corps.

Ahhhh, the glory days when Rare made quality games.

If you have kids under 5, maybe Elmo's Number and Letter Adventure games would be great for him. There is also a Tom and Jerry game for the n64 and a Tigger game as well. Donald Duck's Goin Quackers is a great game that I would think he would enjoy. It is pretty cool seeing Donald Duck get mad!

That metacritic list misses a lot of great games. If you like platform games (the n64 was the Platform game system!) then definitely check out Rocket: Robot on Wheels (sames guys that created the Sly Cooper series) and Rayman 2.

The N64 is also home to so many great racing games. Mario Kart is a definite must and you cannot go wrong with Beetle Adventure Racing!

The DEFINATE MUSTS are Mario Kart, Blitz, Goldeneye (The new ones are nothing compared to this) Super Smash Bros, Mario Tennis, Zelda OoT, Banjo Kazooie or Banjo Twooie (Or both) Starfox, and a Mario Party.

Superman 64  .... while I'm at it I'm going to grab ET for my Atari 2600 too.

Please keep the suggestions coming. I'm excited to collect this system since this came out during the stretch when I wasn't gaming. I already have a couple of games for it and I'm impressed. I have all modern current gen stuff but I've been wanting something older too. I still want a Saturn and I was going to collect NES but changed my mind when I came across this N64. BTW, my son's a Toy Story 2 fanatic so I bought it on ebay for him.

thanks,

RC

The second Castlevania (Legacy of Darkness?) is kinda fun. I also enjoyed the first one. Didn't *like* it, but enjoyed it.

I also dug Hybrid Heaven, but it was a weird Parasite Eve-y fighter with RPG menu system kinda thing.

Any THQ wrestling game, save WCW Nitro. WCW Revenge, WCW vs. nWo, WWF Wrestlemania 2000 and No Mercy are all awesome; though, if you get No Mercy, there's no need for the other three.

Shadowgate 64 was a piece of crap, though. I was really let down by that.

I'll would also say Beetle Adventure Racing. My wife loves it to death.

Another game I think is fun is Star Wars Ep. 1 Racer. Someone said International Soccer, which was the best soccer title at the time. Can not go wrong with any that have been suggested.

No Mercy, without a doubt; even if you absolutely hate wrestling, the games are a blast. I also had a great time with Blast Corps as was mentioned above, and if you've looking for a couple of puzzle games, I'd suggest Wetrix and Tetrisphere in that order.

The All-Star Baseball series was also surprisingly good, and no arcade sports lover should be without at least one copy of Blitz. The one genre I'd probably steer clear of is fighting games, as most of them are awful. Oh, and Paper Mario is a lock if you can find it for a reasonable price.

Edit: Add Harvest Moon to the "good if it's in your price range" category.

1. What's the best soccer game for n64?
Definately Fifa World Cup 98'
2. Best 1 or 2 sports games?
Mario Tennis, Mario Golf
3. Best kids games for a boy under 5?
Starfox, Mario Kart, Super Mario 64
4. Is Goldeneye as good as it's reputation? Zelda?
Goldeneye is hands down the best game for the N64, I still play to the day and enjoy it. I wish they would make a newer version with like upgraded graphics but the same game. As for Zelda, it is very long and you need a million guides to get you through it, but one of the best RPG's for the 64. I would also consider Donkey Kong 64 if you liek Zelda.

There is a newer version of Goldeneye 64, it is called Goldeneye Source and it one of the best mods ever for Half Life 2!! It takes every level and weapons of Goldeneye 64 and recreates them in today's graphic standards. I definitely recommend you check it out. This is another great reason to buy Half Life 2.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is not an RPG ;)

For RPGs, Ogre Battle 64 hands down, but that is not a game a 5 year old would play.

Donkey Kong 64 is more of a platform game that I would compare more to lines of a darker Banjo-Kazooie. Still a great game.

Not an RPG.

No guide needed.

Ever.

And even if it were and RPG, how in the hell could it be "One of the best?"

This implies that there were RPGs on the N64 that were BETTER than Ocarina of Time.

I'm biased, but barring that, Ocarina is pretty much the pinacle of gaming, in any time period.

A couple good shooters for the 64 would be Sin & Punishment (someone else mentioned it) and Bangaioh - which, unbelievably enough, is usually held as a superior version of the game compared to the Dreamcast.

Wetrix is one of my favorite puzzle games of all time. The Next Tetris for the 64 is, in my opinion, the best incarnation of Tetris.

Conkers Bad Fur Day is probably the best game on the system, if you haven't played it already.

I'll throw in my 2 cents:

Blast Corps is a lot of fun. Mario 64 obvious. Yes, Orcarina of Time lives up to it's rep. I played it on the Cube as part of the Wind Waker pre purchase, and I loved evey minute of it.

Golden Eye, good game. But, if you haven't played it before and you've played lots of 3rd person shooters for the current generation, you may be disappointed.

I also enjoyed Donkey Kong 64. It's very collection oriented, if you like those games, it's a good one, if you don't, then avoid.

Mario Kart, I want this game, but I can't bring myself to drop close to $20 on it. I'd pay $10, but since I'll be playing mostly solo, just can't drop the dough on it.
No love for Mischief Makers or Sin and Punishment?
Mischief Makers was kinda over rated..the graphics were SNES at best.. and it was weird and kinda hard to figure out on your own..

go for any game with "mario" in it.. you can't go wrong.
