New to selling online and planning to sell entire DVD collections, need tips

I don't buy movies or TV shows that often, but I plan to convert my entire collection and any other purchases I make to digital download formats only, to save space and to stop dealing with changing formats. I almost sold off some DVD collections (IE family guy, simpsons, etc.) to gamestop, but I find out they no longer carry or take DVD trade-ins. Then I go for Blockbuster, and even for store credit, their trade-in values are HORRIBLE.

I'm abit wary on ebay, so where could I start off?

I use Half.com to get the most. They take a small cut, and you end up with more money than you would trading it in.

If you're looking for an actual retailer to take them, check www.secondspin.com and look up the prices they give (select sell a DVD by title). It's usually close to the same price that a B&M FYE location will give for them, or you can send them by mail. However, you'll always do better by selling them to people rather than retailers, and even better by listing them individually rather than group sets.

Overall for DVDs, if they're in like new condition, I second Half.com. List them about 50cents to $1 cheaper than the lowest price in your condition category and you'll have them all snatched up in no time flat.

Your only snag will be the fact that you don't have any online selling history, including here on CAG (or I would mention offering a trade list w/shipped prices for us to buy them from you)

half is good and the % iis quite small compared

don't try to sell your stuff at stores. i've been selling stuff at half.com for years. it can be slow and stuff will sit forever, but selling a family guy set, for example, at $15-$20 sure beats the $2-5 you'd get at any retail store that buys used dvds. the only stuff worth selling to FYE or secondspin is the stuff that would only net you a dollar at half.com or ebay.

DVDPlanet.com gives pretty good credit for trades. In most cases, it's more than Secondspin. They only give you store credit though.

Case in point, I traded in my Family Guy and South Park sets for about $12 each. I think Secondspin gives like $4.

I traded in some stuff to FYE a few weeks ago, and I will NEVER do it again. Got attitude the whole time. Like others have said, stick to online. Yeah, shipping is a pain in the ass, but stores for some reason don't want this stuff or pay next to nothing.
I would say go with Craigslist first, CAG second, online third, then instore 4th.
Craiglist and CAG are no longer online sources.
Or ebay is simply considered to be the entire internet now.
;)

Just sold off my DVD collection. . .

I took out all of the DVDs I knew would fetch a decent price online and put them on ebay. The rest I thew in a box and brought to work. Sent out an email stating that I have a bunch of DVDs for sale for $3 a pop, and voila! My DVD collection was gone and I was $1000 richer. (actually, it took about a week and a half)

If your workplace is of any sort of decent size, and they won't frown upon selling your DVDs at work, I would highly recommend it.
