Like I said, the math was wrong. Don't believe everything you read just because there's a pretty picture included.
That was part the reason I said it was post of the week ;)
Also, being a CAGer would make us Cheap Ass Gamerers.
:applause: This post even beats the one with the pretty picture that has distracted all of us.

There is too much variation in this deal to come up with a tried and true formula for it. Instead of looking for such a formula, just do the math. Take the TIV value of whatever game you're thinking of trading in and figure out what deals it could possibly qualify for. There's 3/$10, X% more TIV value coupon, and this tiered deal. It seems to be on a rotation so figure out what games would go for the most money (baring any unforseen TIV drops) and wait for that deal to come around.

I disagree--people point out that obvious misnomer almost every week, and have been doing so for years. People going out of the way to make graphs with incorrect calculations? That's a rarity :)

I was actually going to leave it alone, but I was bored at work at the time. Slow day today. I've probably just screwed myself by saying that though.

I swear to fucking God there is no way to post one of these threads without people thread crapping about GS's shitty deals. It's annoying.

I've got a ton of PS2 games that I need to unload, so this promo is golden for me. I was expecting the tiered trade promo to max out at 30%, so the extra 10% that I'm going to get is gravy.

Not really good unless you like to collect games forever. 6+ games probably means you arent beating and trading quickly, so they probably arent worth much to begin with.

I beat and trade quickly enough where finding 3 for the +$10 deal is hard enough. We need a coupon for +50% on 1 game.
Assume 6 games worth of trash TIV = X

$10 bonus deal = X + $20
50% deal = X + X/2

1193tib.jpg

So you have to get more than $40 TIV for your 6 games for the 50% deal to beat the $10 deal.
this is brilliant

OMG you just saved my ass a buttload of money thank you so much now I can go to gs on Monday instead of tomorrow

I was at GS last night and some dude at the next register traded in over 100 mostly
iconps2_r2.gif
&
icongamecube.gif
games. came up to about $300. Poor guy woulda made $450 if he waited! (if I had known at the time I would have told him)

So PS2 and GC games will be included like last time? What about GBA games? (cant remember if they were included last time but I just realized I had a copy of "Kong" sitting under my bed when I cleaned it out, I don't even know where it came from lol).
the chart wasnt for edge card so its not wrong its base value
Nope, it's wrong. If it was for no Edge card, then the tiered trade should be at 40% (1.4x) but it's done at 50% (1.5x) which clearly includes Edge for the tiered calculation, but no Edge for the trade-3-get-$10.

For the tiered trade promo, I think the only stipulation that has ever been placed on this promo has been the minimum TIV.

Bottom line: if you have next gen games where the TIV is under $8.35, then trade those games in by Sunday. Otherwise, used the tiered trade promo for the rest of your next gen games and all of your last gen games...

Guys, worshipsf is right, I didn't know Edge stacked with the 10% deal.

New graph:
2vxomdf.jpg
Assume 6 games with TIV = X

$10 bonus deal = X*1.1 + $20
50% deal = X + X/2

So if TIV = $25

$10 bonus deal = X*1.1 + $20 = $27.50 + $20 = $47.50
50% deal = X + X/2 = $25 + $12.50 = $37.50

Bottom line: If your TIV is less than $50, go with the $10 bonus. If it's more than $50, go with the 50% bonus.

I was on the main page, seen it there, refreshed and it was gone. Threw me off, luckily I had it in my Subscribed List (for obvious reasons) and found it in the graveyard.

Looks to be back now.

That only works if all six games are PS3, 360 or Wii games though. If you've got 5 PS3 games and one PS2 game you'll just be getting $10 bonus with the current deal.

That said, I was real happy to read about this, I was going to go to GameStop today to trade in some games, but I'll be getting a lot more trade in value from this deal. Hopefully it starts right after the current one ends.

If only the power trade didnt expire before the teired trade...now I just have to factor in the 30 percent + 10 dollar bonus against the 50 percent...

uhhh this is frustrating lol

Tex, you are the man! Finally, a definitive answer for the inevitable five million posters wondering which will get them more. If I could rep you, I would.

Quick question. In the graph, is that $10 bonus deal the same as trading in three games (PS3, Wii, 360) and you get an extra $10? If so, then why is the formula for that X*1.1 + $20 instead of = X*1.1 + $10?

The original question was about what to do with six games, which is what would be the threshold to get the full 50% for this promo.

Assume 6 games with TIV = X

Ah, duh. Thanks for pointing that out.

A formula is not needed. You should know what your going to trade in and how much each game gets. Then you just decide if you want to use the old promo or wait for the new one. Its not rocket science. If you have previous gen games you already know you have to wait. TIV's are constantly updated. Just do the math relating to your TIV's and you have your answer.

Does anyome know if their Edge card stacks with this? Like do they give you more trade in credit for a system if you have their card?

No, Edge doesn't stack on systems. Only on games and accessories. For example, if you trade in a 360 with a HDD, you will not get edge bonus on the base 360, but you will on the HDD, because they consider it an accessory, and they take it seperately from the console. Hope that clarifies.

Strange. Do they consider the controller an accessibly too or does it count as being part of the system?

in regards to this post I made earlier,

does the 10 dollar bonus stack with the power trade offer? if not then I will be at ease and can just wait for the tiered trade.

Does this include Phat models? Mine's battery is on it's death bed and the system itself is rather used after the past few years. I'm not terribly interested in the DSi until I see a reason other than 1/4th of an inch extra screen space.

$84.99 for a new DS Lite isn't too shabby.
Oops. Ugh. I hate store credit though.
Wait, what? You would rather trade for cash? If you trade stuff in for cash at GameStop you are officially a moron. They only give you a fraction of the value. Much better to get credit. Promotions don't apply towards cash trades anyway.
Can someone link the TIV thread for gamestop please+TY
The link is literally 2 posts above yours. I'll be changing the first post of that thread over to the new deal tomorrow night. Information on the new deal was over there on Thursday, I just don't change the titles until the new deal actually starts because we have limited space in titles and it tends to breed confusion on which deal is live. All trade-in value items and questions are best asked over there. Xfactor4 tends to be pretty quick on responding to requests in that thread if there isn't a price currently listed for an item.

The best they normally have are trade-in coupons specifically for a system but they are hard to pin down when they actually do them. Your best bet is to take part in one of the tiered trade promos like starts on Monday, as long as you have a decent number to trade in.

Does this promo apply to DS and PSP games though? The OP doesn't really clear that up. I figured this is just for 360, PS3 and Wii games.

The tiered trade has always covered all systems, not just the newest ones. The promotions that normally only cover the new systems are the "Trade x and get $x Amount" promotions.

This.

Now I gotta root all my old games and see what I can get. If I can bank 40plus thats great.
