Hey guys,

I just got an X-Box 360 for the first time, I've been a long time PS3 owner.

I have a question regarding HDMI and how to set it up on the 360.

When i was using the PS3, i would use the systems component cables for the audio and the video i would use an hdmi cable.

This is the TV I am using.http://www.epinions.com/specs/pr-So...0_60_in_Rear_Projection_HDTV-Ready_Television

I believe it only has 1 video port for the HDMI. I was looking for another slot so that i could have both of the systems hooked up simultaneously but i could not find one. (my tv is kind of old)

This is the cable i have been using with my ps3
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dynex&#...D=10597222&skuId=8426223&st=VIV to hdmi cable

Now this cable connects to my X-box, however my component audio cables can't fit because it has this plastic piece blocking the hdmi port.

I did a search on the internet to find some solutions and this guy on gamefaqs did this
http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/927749-xbox-360/56029738

I was wondering if this was safe or if there is another way around this hdmi blocking problem

I also have a very stupid question to ask. If i use the video cord and somehow get the audio cables in can i connect the red/white cords to any red /white cords on the back of my tv or do i have to remove the ps3 red/white ones so that it lines up with the hdmi cable.

I would greatly appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.

Is the piece blocking both sets of component ins?

Also, why not just run them both on component @ 720p instead of converting the HDMI to DVi?

This is correct.
Hey Joey,

So if I use this http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360componenthdcable/

i can hook it up to any of the red/white/yellow holes in the the back/front of my tv and it will display hd 720p graphics and give me sound also?

thanks for your help btw this would be awesome if i can just go out and buy this.
That is what you need, but place it in the Red/Green/Blue & Red/White Audio ports in the back of the TV.

Use these:
http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3-Component-AV-Cable/dp/B000MIXFWA

with your PS3 instead of the HDMI to DVI you are currently using. And plug those into the ports in the back as well.

I know you can find the official 360 cables for $5 used at GameStop. If you had your PS3 for a while you should have the cables that you need for it.

I can confirm this works. I use hdmi on my 360 and I needed the toslink connector to my av receiver. Instead of buying the MS brand hdmi cable (expensive with toslink connector), I took the plastic cover off. Now both hdmi and xbox component cable fits. To be safe I used electrical tape to cover the now exposed metal shielding.

Question, why are you using hdmi? According to the link for your tv it doesn't do 1080p, so why not just use the component cables? Unless you already have stuff on those ports.

Wow, this is a really old TV. No HDMI port on it at all, best you're going to do for digital input is DVI-D. That, and the TV is only capable of 1080i, so you don't really need HDMI output. Two component, and three composite/S-Video inputs besides the DVI-D is what your TV has. That cable you listed to on the Best Buy website is a HDMI to DVI-D cable, since your TV came out before HDMI was available.

First off OP, do you have anything else going to this TV besides the PS3 and 360? If it's just going to be the PS3 and the 360, you could leave the PS3 connected as it is and connect the 360 via component cables as you thought about.

If you do have something else, like a DVR or a cable box, I'm assuming it's connected via component, so you only have one free component input. You could use the component cables for the 360 connection and leave the PS3 as is.

Other option would be as reddjoey suggested, switch to the component cables for the PS3, use the existing HDMI to DVI-D cable for the 360 on its HDMI cable and either "adjust" the 360 video cable to get it to fit or pick up the audio adapter to run the RCA L/R audio to the TV.

An even better solution that would be a long-term investment would be looking at getting a receiver that does audio and video and at least some 2.1 speakers (left + right + subwoofer), connect the PS3 and 360 directly to the AV receiver via HDMI and connect the receiever to the TV via the HDMI to DVI-D cable you have. Plus, you'd get better sound and start working to getting yourself surround-sound.

Enjoy the Xbox buddy, if you want to get some friends from CAG there's a good thread where CAG's list there gamertags. Feel free to add me: GT: crajon
