New Xbox 360 slim - $20 cheaper 120GB models spotted in the wild (USA)

CAGiversary!
Just a heads up if you are picking up a new Xbox 360 slim any time soon. Apparently there is a smaller 120GB version out there for $20 cheaper. Doesn't seem worth it to have less than half the space for only a $20 savings to me, but hey savings is savings for some folks I guess.

So far, I've only heard the report in the USA. No word on Canada yet.
Yeah I agree, saving $20 isn't worth half the space. That's a pretty weird pricing move.
Especially since you can choose to install games to the hard drive on the Xbox 360's (unlike PS3). I do that for all my games since it's a lot quieter and the games generally load a little faster.

If I had to guess, I'd say Microsoft had a warehouse full of 120 GB drives left over from the previous generation consoles they already paid for that they needed to get rid of. Just speculation on my part though.

That kind of makes sense. But you would think if they're trying to get rid of them they'd price em to move. At a $20 price difference I don't see anyone going for the 120 gb console.

Yeah, but the same could be said about clearing stock out for the 360 Slim models. I don't think $50 is that big of a price difference if I were to choose between an old 360 model and a Slim (if I didn't have an Xbox 360). I would choose the Slim for all of the added features i.e. Built in wi-fi, Opitcal Output port, five USB ports, uses less power, better chip set).

If Microsoft really wanted to move those older units they should have priced them to be $100 less IMHO. By the time you are done not having built in wi-fi (if you need it) and having no optical output port (again if you need it) will cost you lets say an extra $160. That is if you buy these things new in retail and are using an HDMI cable.

I would think it would be a $50 difference as well but I guess it makes sense when you put the old $250 units into the equation. Why would someone buy an old $250 elite if they could get a new 120GB slim for the same price.

Once they are done clearing out the old model Xbox 360's I wouldn't be that surprised to see a 120GB slim model for $249.99 and a slim arcade with no hard drive for $199.99.

For what it's worth, at a $50 difference I'd probably be cheap enough (I am a CaG after all) to buy the 120GB model. That's what I did with my recent PS3 slim purchase anyway. I opted for the 120GB version and used the $50 savings for one of those game/controller bundles.
