Newb electric Guitar Reccomendations

whiteboy

CAGiversary!
I've been looking into getting a guitar for a while now and I'm about ready to buy (within the next week). I just wanted to get some of your opinions on good beginners electric guitars. Right now I'm leaning toward a Epiphone Les Paul 100, from what I've read it offers quite a bit of bang for the buck and it suits my desired style of play (metal, grunge, etc). Any reccomendations on other beginners guitars are welcome. Also would you reccomend I buy online? If so, where? Also I need some suggestions on what kind of amp to buy. And what else should I buy with the guitar (the model i mentioned above doesnt come in a starters package)?

I just noticed I accidentally put this in Video Game Requests. PLease move this to OD&R. Sorry.

Well first of all Epi guitars are overpriced compared to what you could get for the money. I would not reccommend getting a LP 100 or LP Standard unless you have played them and actually felt comfortable playing them (the necks are like baseball bats... huge). I play on a Schecter C1 Classic (a $700 guitar similar to a PRS) and I would reccomend a cheap Ibanez Strat for starting out (they are the easiest guitar to learn on IMO). If you get one in a starter pak the Ibanez guitar will most likely be pretty good for the money but the amp will blow (like all cheap amps). If you wanna get a decent practice amp you'll have to spend around $150 or more but the shitty amps work good for starting out anyways... A couple good places to find guitars, amps, accessories, etc. are musiciansfriend.com and music123.com. I can play twice as fast on my Ibanez or Schecter as I can on a LP 100.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going over to a friends house in the next few days to see how i like the LPs and Strats as well as watever other guitars he has.

Well you have to remember that just because you are comfortable with one LP you may not be with another (I really like LP Customs but I hate Standards because the necks are so much thicker). If you are going to get a LP try out the exact model before you buy it. Pretty much all strats/PRSs have small necks though.

I've got a Gibson Explorer and an Ibanez JEM :D but.........that's a little pricey to start off with

My first guitar I started with was an Ibanez GRX40Z and it was pretty solid considering it was only about $140 or somewhere around there.
