Next-Gen Console with Last-Gen TV?

Omatsei

CAGiversary!
After reading a thread about a next-gen game that may or may not come to a console that we all know it will get to eventually, I started wondering how many people have purchased an Xbox 360 or PS3 that do NOT have an HDTV. If you do have one and not the other, why?

Edit: Sorry, I meant Xbox 360 or PS3. I'm not including the Wii as "next-gen" because it doesn't support HD, so it wouldn't matter if you had an HDTV or not.
Now when you say next-gen, do you mean only the HD capable systems? (360/PS3)
I think he does, but I went ahead and said the Wii is next-gen. Because I'm ahead of the curve.

I have an HDTV. There is no point in owning a 360 or PS3 without one, IMO. I'm actually eyeing the 2008 holidays (probably January 2009) for my second HDTV purchase - probably a 50-65" 1080p plasma assuming one can be had for under $3k by then.

I have an HDTV, but played on an old TV with S-video for a while. It wasn't bad, I could go back to it if I had to, but HD is obviously a lot better. After playing on an HDTV for a few months, all SDTVs (and HDTVs that aren't as good as yours) will look awful. it'll spoil you :)

I plan on getting a good 1080p set in a few years (after law school, I guess)

Is there any market research which shows what the majority of all 360 and PS3 owners play on (SDTV or HDTV)? Shit, I bet the Average Joe thinks that every "flat panel" out there automatically means everything on it's screen is "HD", even with non HD cables and/or SD programming. ;)
Oops - I voted for "have a next-gen console and no HDTV" before I realized you don't consider Wii next-gen...
I did the same.

I have two 32" standard def tv sets, one has component so at least I can get 480p out of it. I have a Wii, which I dont consider next gen.

I just bought a used 360 from a friend this week, he upgraded to the elite. I havent hooked it up yet. Hopefully it looks good on my sdtv.

I don't have a HDTV or a next gen console. I wish I had enough money to buy a premium 360, but if I ever get the money I doubt I'll be able to buy one. $400 is just too much to spend on one thing, especially something unnecessary, in my opinion. Plus I know it will drop in price so I'll just wait it out.

As for the HDTV, there are so many things I'd rather spend my money on. Until they drop to $100, I won't buy one. I'm perfectly fine with whatever hand-me-down TVs I get.

It's all about the $$$ for me.

I have both a next gen console and an HD TV (well, I'm using a monitor for HD gaming). Never understood why people think that SDTVs make 360 and PS3 games look ugly though.
