Next Twisted Metal On the Way?
Twisted Metal 2 = greatest game ever.
Wasn't Head On a remake of 2? so the new remake of Head on for the PS2 is a remake of a remake?

Twisted Metal Black was the first PS2 game I played that really made me say, "Wow, this system can do some amazing stuff". If another Twisted Metal game wants to come along and blow my mind, I would not complain.

That's a mouth full of a title. Anyway, I'm a huge fan of Twisted Metal series and they are releasing the PSP version of Head On on the PS2, with a bunch of bonus stuff. Here's what it'll have according to David Jaffe:

The Core Game Itself- Yep, the hit PSP game - Twisted Metal:Head On - is now on PS2. And now it’s running at 60 frames/second, has improved textures and art, and even has a new level created specifically for this version (Transylvania Castle).

The Lost Levels - Four brand new levels straight out of the dark, demented world of Twisted Metal: Black. These levels are designed with two player deathmatch in mind and I think they are some of the best Twisted levels we have ever made. My favorites are Suburban Terror and Stadium Slaughter.

* The Twisted Metal Symphony- folks who purchase the game will get a free code to let them download a free copy of The Twisted Metal Symphony. TMS is a compilation soundtrack of the greatest musical tracks from TM1, TM2, TM:BLACK, and TM:HEAD ON. Yes, old school TM fans, Rooftops from TM1 WILL be on there!

* A Continuous Suicide Of Reason: The Art Of Twisted Metal- a pack in art booklet filled with concept art dating back to the very first Twisted Metal game. Check out some shots:

The Dark Past- A 30 minute documentary tracing the history of Twisted Metal, the struggles the team went through in making the games, the success, the failures, the fans, etc. Heck, we even touch on what went wrong with TM3 and Tm4 and what the original team REALLY feels about those games. It’s a nice little doc that- I feel- is much more honest than the usual ‘making of’ puff pieces you see ubn a lot of games these days.

* Sweet Tour- This is where you get to take control of Sweet Tooth himself and run him around some levels built for Twisted Metal: Black 2. As you run around, you find icons you can collect. Each icon opens up concept art and behind the scenes information about the making of the series.

* The Lost Ending Movies- Back in 1995, I wrote and directed some live action end movies for the very first Twisted Metal. Because they were deemed too sexist and too violent, they never saw the light of day. But it’s 2008 now and what was once offensive is now just- to most folks- cheesy and charming. So these flicks are on the disc for folks to finally judge for themselves if they are cinematic masterpieces or the final proof of my total lack of talent. I’m sure you’ll let me know which.

TW:HO-ETA

All of that for $20? Count me in! I guess my PS2 is still going to get
some use. Jaffe also had this to say.

Oh, and have I mentioned that buried deep within this mammoth package is the answer to a question that TM fans have been asking us for quite a while now? No? Oh, well now I have. But good luck finding it! It’s buried pretty deep!

Hopefully it's a Twisted Metal game for the PS3! That would awesome.

Twister Metal 1/2 were some of the most fun times I spent with PlayStation. I'd love to see them revisit that series on something with the power of the PS3. It's a series that saw a rebirth with Black and then kind of just disappeared again until the PSP. Very odd.

Hey I still got Black and Head On. Guess that makes me cool. Some of my favorite games, would buy a PS3 version for sure.

new twisted metal would be cool, but some new elements need to be added into the gameplay, seems like twisted metal has be the same for a while.

I agree, I think it's time we start seeing these guys get out of their vehicles. Like maybe the core is TM, but you can get out and pick up RPGs or have to manually trigger traps.

I was amazed at what they did with Black on some of the stages (especially the one that starts inside the ferry (or was it just a boat); hopefully they can take this series to the next level.

I am ashamed by the fact that I am a huge Twisted Metal fan, but had no idea of Head On's existence until last week. I can't believe they brought back Crimson Fury.

Oh my GOD. They absolutely must release this on CD, because I won't settle for MP3s.

Please have Los Angeles from Twisted Metal 2.

I'm about to dig out my old ass copy of Twisted Metal, with the big ass black first-generation cases. I forgot what most of the music sounded like in the first.
Ah crap...that will definately make me get a PS3.

That's if its truly a new game for the PS3 and not a PSN title.
Well it could be a new PSN game and I wouldn't mind. But I'm guessing you mean an older game rereleased via PSN.

Yeah, I heard the news and glad.

I might be disc and PSN release, but I dunno, since Jaffe mentioned that seems to be the way SCEA is going with PSN.

More nuanced gameplay would be nice. I really hope the get better physics, something to Motorstorm level, which was pretty arcadey, but had enough to convey the weight and different handling properties of each vehicle.

Remember this?

Anyone get the new Twisted Metal released for PS2 this week? I've never played a Twisted Metal game. Was wondering if any of you had played it one a 60GB PS3.

I got it. It's a blast. The levels from TM: Black 2 are pretty amazing, it really sucks that the game didn't get finished. Darkside is as fun as ever. It runs fine on my 20GB PS3 so it should work fine on a 60.

I'm a huge Twisted Metal fan, but I think they dropped the ball with Head On, in regards to art direction and presentation. Everything, from the character selection artwork, cheesy green hypnotic background, to the rock concert on the first stage, just turned me off.

The code for a new Twisted Metal game on the PS3 has been cracked, BTW.

I think they looked at the PSP and said, "Well, we can't really match the tone of TM Black on a portable so we'll go the other direction." Now, I think games like Silent Hill Origins have since proved that you can have a dark game on a portable but at the time (developed during 2004), it didn't seem feasible.

It's not my favorite TM, that honor definitely goes to Black but for what it is, I loved it on the PSP and now on the PS2. I think it was also a case of expecting the worst ala TM3 and 4 but instead being pleasantly surprised.

I'd miss the online component if online PS2 games (outside of FF XI) weren't universally ruined by cheating.

Indeed.

TMB and TMHO are both good games, but neither is nearly as good as TM2.

That new compilation works fine on a 60gb PS3. The TM1 endings are absolutely comical.
too bad they took away the online mode from the psp version
Is the PSP version still up though? I might get it.

Twisted Metal to be shown at Leipzig?

Jaffe's blog indicates that his latest project, which he himself confirmed to be a Twisted Metal Project for the PS3, and was later re-confirmed in a cryptic message in their first project 'Twisted Metal: Head On' for the PS2, is supposedly in "the crunch" for a "Sony Dog and Pony" showing next week. That just so happens to coincide with the Leipzig Games Convention.

Jaffe writes, "I figured I'd share a bit of what's up with the work on my end. Out in Utah I know the team is scrambling to get a nice, sexy build of the game going for a Sony Dog and Pony next week. While I am sure I would drive some of them crazy if I was out there everyday- and the very successful, very functional alliance we've forged over the last 12 years would prob. not work with daily, real life connection- it's times like these I WISH I was out there, so I could help with the crunch. Ah well, I can always hop a flight :)"

Of course this is still a rumor and it could be an internal presentation rather than a public one, but the choice of words here leads me to speculate that we may see our first glimpse of Twisted Metal very, very soon.

New Twisted metal...
If it has good online play (maybe online co-op for the "story mode" too) that would be awesome.

A new Twisted Metal game is something I really want to happen. I can't imagine how insanely fun the online side of the game would be on the PS3.

If TM shows at Leipzig that's a huge sign that E3 is suffering. Considering the event was one that was mostly about announcing new games, that has since gone by the wayside.

Either way, I LLLLOOOOOOOVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDD TM:Black but would love to see them take it into a different direction; maybe like Warhawk did.

Well it is all rumors so far. They are thinking it will be shown behind closed doors. Maybe it just wasn't ready for E3, or maybe it isn't even TM they are going to show at all.

Another thing is that E3 really changed it's usual time, so now it's actually closer to LGC and TGS, cramming a lot of cons in the span of a few months and not leaving publishers/developers time to really prepare for each one.

Don't forget PAX which is this weekend I think, but I'm not sure if Sony is going to have anything there.

I don't think Eat.Sleep.Play is a big enough studio to work on two different games at once, and since we know they are working on TM, if they are showing something that has to be it.

Isn't the current Warhawk team "small"? I just ask because the rumor is that they might be using the Warhawk engine for Twisted Metal which could take a lot of the work out of this. And thus only require a different sized team compared to building up a brand new engine over tweaking an older one.
