NHL free agency heats up
Sour grapes.

Like the Sabres ever do anything. Never will with Darcy around.

Oh, maybe we can get another big name like Delmore.
I heard they were going after Teppo Numinen (sp?). Whoopee!!! I can't believe they didn't retain Satan's rights and then at the very least trade him for some draft picks. Boy, they really look like they have their heads up their asses.

I'm loving this, even if it's gonna confuse the hell out of me once the season starts. But I guess I sort of have reason to be loving this, being a Flyers fan. Though it's kind of tough to come up with lines that make sense...
On that note, ESPN is reporting that Neidermayer has signed with the Ducks.
four-year, $28 million deal, they waaaay overpaid, I'm sorry.

Teppo still plays?

There should be a rule that all players from NHL '93 must be retired.

he turned down more money with the devils...that sucks

Yes, I think he is 38. He may add some depth, but he probably won't be able to log the significant ice time like Zhitnik could.

I hear that many of the agents and players are sour against the Sabres because of Darcy and the coaching staff. If you look at some of the players that have left, many have had adversarial relationships with the coaching and front office (Satan, Wooley, Gilmour, etc. - even Andreychuk was screwed his second time around and then won the cup). It doesn't bode well to signing any top tier free agents if this is true. As much as I like Ruff, they may have to clear house if the season becomes a bust.
His brother plays there. Why else would he go to the pond?
Yeah but him and Scotty was the best d-line ever.

And he took so damn long to decide where he was going that now the Devils have NOBODY good left to sign to make up for losing him. We're gonna blow now...
And the fucking Flyers had to go out and buy everybody...

Yes, I hear that also.

But, Regier is also stupidly loyal to all the players he has... he was the same in New York, as well. He's been GM since the Ted Nolan days, and Ruff has been here nearly a decade also. And what results have they accomplished... except for a few years of Hasek carrying this sorry team?

Change should have happened YEARS ago.

Jersey resigned Rafalski, so that should help.

And yea, I'll agree that the Sabres suck at handling players. I used to think it was because they couldn't afford some of their better talent and lost or had to trade them, then I saw what they did with Peca and realized management is full of jackasses.
Roenick and a third rounder to LA for future considerations.
As much as I love Forsberg coming to town, I hate seeing JR leave. He's always been my favorite player, and it's been nice having him on my team. He's been a great player for us, and hopefully he'll do well out in LA. I know I'll be rooting for him out there.

Yeah, the Devils got a couple OK defensemen in Malakhov and McGillis too. Finally, we signed someone!

And as much as it looks like the Flyers made out great with their signings, they really just did good. They got Forsberg, Hatcher, and Rathje, but they had to give up Amonte, LeClair, and Roenick. They definately did good, just not as amazing as it seems.
But, Regier is also stupidly loyal to all the players he has
I agree, "stupidly loyal" to Afinogenov, Campbell, Connelly and Pyatt who he kept as unrestricted free agents. He could have let any of them go.

The ownership (Rigas) at the time tried to make an example out of Peca and the inflated salaries of the NHL. They never really negotiated with him because he would have accepted less than his initial asking price. I believe Regier got a black mark here, but was just following ownerships orders.

I heard that the Sabres were actually trying to make a deal to bring him back before he was sent to Edmonton. Makes you wonder why they didn't tender Satan an offer and trade him straight up for Peca. If he becomes an unrestricted free agent next year, I wouldn't be surprise if he came back to Buffalo. He has strong family ties there and spent the entire off season there.

Meh. I think everyone we lost was worth it to get who we got. As much as I love JR, I don't think he was going to have a great year, because I'm still worried about his affinity for concussions and broken jaws. And when you consider that even though Forsberg has just as big affinity for injuries, he is such a great player, it almost makes up for it. And LeClair is a bit of a bum too. Sure, he did pretty decent last year, but for what he was getting paid, he should have been doing a lot better. It would have been nice if Amonte stayed, but I think it's fine getting rid of him. Looking at our roster, we still have Primeau, Gagne, Handzus, Knuble, Carter, Richards, and apparently Kapanen. Add to that Forsberg, and we've got a team that can still score and score often. Add to that two goaltenders who should be awesome this year in Esche and Niittymaki, and then a much improved defensive game with Hatcher and Rathje, plus Desjardins coming back, I think this team has a good shot at being great this year. I think that every year, but I really am liking the way this team is shaping up to be this year.

EDIT: Looking at it, here's what I'm thinking the Flyers lines could be:

Gagne-Forsberg-Carter
Brashear-Primeau-Kapanen
Richards-Handzus-Knuble
Sim-Sharp-Stevenson

I mean, that's three damn good lines and then a fourth line that can do decently. I can see Carter dropping back a few lines, but I think at least for the start of the season, he'll be up on the first line.

Yeah, the Flyers are definately in for a great year.
It's OK though...the Devils sent Stevenson to you guys to sabotage your playoff run ;-) lol

That's why he's stuck down on the fourth line. ;)

And as vaunted as centers that Richards and Carter are, I just see them being utilized as wingers more. I mean, the top three centers are pretty much set in stone, and I don't think you want to waste their talent on the fourth line. Like I said, I'm not totally sure about Carter being on the first line, but I think they may give him a shot, if only to keep Brash-Primes-Kapanen together.

I heard that they are trying to unload Hanzus, though he fits the prototypical Flyer player (6'2+ 220+, crash and bang).

Leafs are apparently trying to sign Jason Allison. I'll be happy with him, he's a point a game guy who can fill the 2nd line centre void.
I agree, "stupidly loyal" to Afinogenov, Campbell, Connelly and Pyatt who he kept as unrestricted free agents. He could have let any of them go.
Please don't tell me Connolly getting a pay increase was a good thing.

Has he recovered from his concussion yet? Jason Allison, when healthy, can be a monster. Man, he was a force for the Kings. He completely took over some games.
Yzerman is back thank God! All Detroit has lost is Hatcher, who didn't play last year; Whitney, who was a huge disappointment in Detroit; and McCarty , true his best days are behind him, but it still sucks that Detroit couldn't keep him. Oh and Hasek & Cujo, but those two were the biggest waste of 16 million dollars ever, and both are well past their prime.

Detroit will probably find a way to win the division. :whistle2:k Maybe Mike Modano could come home... not sure exactly how fucked the Wings pay roll is at this point with all the releases.
I'm actually curious if McCarty would consider coming back in a year after his buyout has lapsed.

Allison might be the one guy Toronto does actually get. They treated Joe Nieuwendyk and Gary Roberts like crap this offseason and they've been telling other players about it, lots of guys don't want to deal with Toronto anymore.
I'm actually curious if McCarty would consider coming back in a year after his buyout has lapsed.
He might, but it will have to be two years because that's how long the Flames signed him for.

I have been a huge Devils fan for a long time; I am a shamed that Nied would leave eventhough he went to be with his brother. I believe with the salary cap that loyalty to teams are gone (if there ever was any). The Devils should be alright eventhough Nieds a big lose; we still got Marty and some good shooters.

On another note look out for the BlueJackets. I believe they will have a steller year.
Please don't tell me Connolly getting a pay increase was a good thing.
Not at all... I believe that they didn't need to tender offers to any of those players (especially Connolly). I think they are all a waste of money. I would rather they kept Satan and Zhitnik instead of offer the 4 of them.

Bruins just signed Zhamnov, that was another player heavily rumored to be going to the Penguins along with Kovalev.
Latest rumors put Kariya in Edmonton. At this point, I'll believe Kariya is going somewhere when he says it himself...
If he does go there, the Oilers are only a goalie away from being serious contenders in the West. Perhaps a CuJo return?

Bruins are still talking to Allison's agent.
Bruins are also talking to Leclair, but thats highly unlikely now.
Cujo might go to Pittsburgh.
Toronto really wants Lindros.

Khabibulin signed with Chicago today.

Edmonton doesn't need a goalie, they'll be fine. Tampa Bay is screwed though, Khabibulin was a huge part of that team. Having a 1.71 GAA in the playoffs will take any team to the finals.
Khabibulin signed with Chicago today.
Good. Now I can laugh at my uncle as his stupid Lightning fall apart. Stupid him and his Stanley Cup being in a place where there is no natural ice. That's just wrong!

Nashville eh? At least Scorch may like that news.

The other decent signing was the Leafs getting Jason Allison. I think they're still working on Lindros too, but we'll see.

And Colorado signed Brad May, which is good and bad for me because my girlfriend loves him and wanted him to come back to the Sabres, but now I know I'll be forced to go to that game. Unless of course he does something stupid...again.

The Av's signing Brad May is one of those head scratchers. With him being involved in the Steve Moore incident and being named in the following lawsuit, you got to wonder what's going through the mind of Lacroix.
