NHL playoffs looming
Red Wings.Thread over.
They come to town this Sunday, so that should be a good game vs. the Hawks.

Who will Detroit face in the Finals?

I think in the west it's too hard to tell who is going to go to the Finals. I'd like to see the Flames go but I think Dallas and Nashville have a good chance as well.

I'd wait till after the trade deadline before making predictions, I liked Carolina but they just lost Cole for the regular season. I don't think Detroit can win it with Legace. And of course I'm pulling for the Sabres, but they HAVE to dump a goaltender.

Yeah, but they just got Weight (Carolina, that is)...

Doug Weight?

Man, I grew up a Blues fan but they suck so bad this year it's not even funny. Of course these days I'm a Jackets fan so I can't say much. Although if we played the first half of the season like we did the second half we'd be in the playoffs. The Nash, Fedorov, Zherdev line is killer.

If Nash wasn't out for half the year I really think the Jackets would be in the playoff picture right now. Next year I think they'll make it.
I really hope Atlanta makes the playoffs this year.

There may be some huge trades today before the deadline...
i second that

Since my favorite player retired midseason, I don't care anymore. I just want to see some good games. Hockey is like crack to me, it doesn't matter what level it is, I just need it

Usually when something is looming, that usually implies a negative connotation.

It would be much beter if your title stated, "The NHL Playoffs are almost here!"

That's not a bad thing!

It is a negative connotation (for the teams who don't make the playoffs)!;)

Yeah, no doubt. Hopefully he can be healthy next season, it's a different team when he's on the ice - plus Zherdev has improved sevenfold since Fedorov came to town.

Even though they're not in it, I still can't wait for playoffs. Best hockey of the season is from April to June.
i second that
good to see some love for the thrashers. one point out of the playoffs, i hope they get a solid dman tomorrow (leetch?) and maybe unload dunham for a better backup or even a pick. i really hope the rumors aren't true about savard being on the block. here's to making the playoffs

surprisingly quiet trade deadline. i really expected a few more major trades.

my personal vote for deal of the deadline goes to vancouver, who managed to get noronen at a bargain rate for just a second round pick. he's young and has good career numbers, so if the canucks can get some healthy defensemen in front of him, he'll win them some games.

edit: with the canucks picking up weinrich, carney, and brown they are clearly bracing for going deep into the playoffs. if jovanovski, ohlund, or salo can get healthy in time for the playoffs then the canucks just got a lot scarier.

i was disappointed with the thrashers for not acquiring any d, and for that matter not really participating in the trades at all. they've been doing good lately, and if they keep it up they'll make the playoffs. i just hope they can make it past the first round to make an impact.

edit: the thrashers did acquire steve mccarthy from the canucks for a conditional 2007 draft pick (4th round if they don't sign him, 3rd if they do sign him). not the trade i was looking for, but i like mccarthy and the depth he'll add. the pick can be made up for in the free agency since atlanta is quickly becoming a desirable team to play for.

where are the hockey fans? the playoff race is in full swing with a bunch of teams fighting hard for that final spot. what match ups are people looking forward to in the first round? what top 3 spot will pittsburgh draft at for the 4th year in a row?

I'm hoping the Blackhawks get the first pick this year.

Weird year for playoffs. My BlueJackets never go, so my stand-by team to root for in the post season is the Blues (I grew up a Blues fan, born in STL). However, they're not in it for the first time since 79 or something like that.

I'll probably root for mostly western conference teams, but that can change depending on what teams have players that I like. Maybe the Wings, just because it could very likely be Yzerman's last year and he deserves to go out well.
I'm a big Flyers fan and all, but they're letting me down. I thought we were going to completely dominate the regular season, maybe lose 15 games total.
They were one of the 5 teams to watch in the TSN. Is Forsberg back yet?

The Red Wings are sick, but their goaltending presents a ?, yet again. Legace is having an awesome season, and Osgood is doing pretty good as a backup, but I don't know how they'll hold up in the playoffs.

I've been waiting years for Legace to get his due after being worthy of a starting role stuck behind Osgood, Hasek, and CuJo, so I'm prayin' for him.

It's so hard to be excited about hockey when games aren't televised anymore, though. If I was back in Detroit, CBC would probably tide me over but no such luck in Cleveland. I think I've watched one or two games all season.

If you have OLN, you can watch 2-4 games per week on Mondays and Tuesdays. Don't they televise Columbus games? I know it technically isn't "local", but you'd think they'd at least show the road games.

No OLN (crappy tiny cable company) and FSN doesn't do hockey anymore, so no Columbus (not that they were generally worth watching when they were on).

i hate the redwings, but i think legace is the real deal. between him and the defense they're gonna be a tough team in the playoffs. i think the only playoff bound teams out west that even stand a chance in a detroit series are dallas, nashville, and maybe calgary. i don't see the wings winning the cup this year though.
This week will make or break most teams playoff lives, my team specifically.
You referring to Toronto? They have some catching up to do, and most of the teams ahead of them have a least a game in hand.

Which FSN channel do you have? I know they show it on FSN Ohio South. I was watching them just the other night.

I didn't know there were two FSN Ohios, but I wouldn't get the South one. I thought FSN gave up NHL broadcasts altogether. I'm pretty sure Fox Sports Detroit doesn't carry the Red Wings anymore.

It might be FSN - Cincinnati and not Ohio South. I know that the Predators are also shown on FSN - something. They definitely have regional deals going on.

the islanders vs. thrashers game looks like it's getting good. atlanta is up 3-1 early in the second. more potentially good news for atlanta...burke has a broken finger...could hurt tampa's chances for the playoffs and allow the thrashers their first ever post season run.

man i sure hope the sharks can squeeze in there. im gonna go see them play phoenix on the 30th. were just a few points out, so we should be able to if we can play well. the only downside is if the sharks get the 8th seed, then were playing the redwings in the first round... at least my gf will be happy.

vancouver's doing their best to help you out...five straight loses. edmonton also seems to be on a losing streak. sj has enough games in hand, if they can keep winning they're in it.
