NiGHTS 2! It's quite likeable - Just not Shaq-fu-able! In Stores Now!

One.

Everyone saying it isn't worth full retail needs to shut their pie hole. Nobody cares what you think because you are a moron. This is one of the best games you could pick up for the wii that is actually a wii game.
Plus one.
You get really pissed because your a moron.
All I said is it is easily one of the best wii games that's actually a wii game. I know what the gameplay is like and I don't even need to play it to make that statement. What pisses me off is people who play it once, and never get the hang of it proclaiming it sucks.
Equals four.
The visuals aren't as good as the first game. The cutscenes are superior, but thats it. The original is a far better game than this and the saturn analog stick was much better than any analog sticks Nintendo has out. For those of you that never used it, the nights controller was better than the dreamcast analog stick.
The classic controller is better than the numchuk even though the classic controllers analog is ass. I doubt the cube controller will fair better because of its trigger buttons. It is one of the better wii games, which isn't saying much right now.
G'night everybody.

not really at that point. I just kept dashing towards groups of them near to the ground, relying on the map to show me where they were showing up

Yeah, the map/radar helps. And also fly upwards (near the top) from time to time to make sure none of the Nightopians are getting too close to the black hole.

I finally got my copy yesterday (shipped 12/22-- thanks to UPS not touching ground packages for most of the last 2 weeks) and am basically enjoying it, but yeah, the Nintendo analog controllers really really suck for this game. I'm having issues controlling Nights, and I never had problems on the Saturn. I feel like there's a good game here but they should've worked a bit more on the controls.

I can't see how you can say the original game looked better, though-- Nights is a very, very pretty game on the Wii. Some of the cutscenes using the game engine are pretty bad, but the game itself looks quite good, to me. (if you really think the Saturn game looked better, please drag your Saturn out of storage and hook it up-- there's no comparison). The original Nights *plays* much better, though.

Basically-- this game is TOTAL fan service with a few things popped in to make it "contemporary" (the whole plot, the Owl scenes, etc-- I guess Sega figured the game couldn't stand alone so they plopped a ton of worthless framework around it). If you didn't own a Saturn at the time Nights was contemporary and have the nostalgia from that, I don't know if the game is strong enough to warrant a full price buy. But if you did-- it's TOTAL nostalgia.

I beat Will's path yesterday. I got use to the controls towards the end and found myself having no problems going back to previous stages improving my rank. The last stage was magical, that's all I will say. I absolutely loved it and can't wait to play as Helen. This is easily one of my favorites in 07. I'm so glad I bought it.

Yeah, I felt the same way. That last level was awesome.

I had never played the original NiGHTS, but I liked this game a lot.

i finally gave in and picked this game up. the opening is beautiful. i haven't gotten use to the gameplay yet. but i like it. i'm going to try and beat this fast and sell it quick. so hopefully i'll get the hang of it quick.

Got this game for Christmas from my girlfriend. Cute, because she got me a Saturn and the orignal Nights for my birthday this past June. Anyways on to impressions. For reference, I just got to the "final" boss battle on Will's dream.

First of all, I think this game is good, even great, but for a seasoned Nights fan, its going to take some adjustment, and some understanding that Sega just fucked up in some areas.

Voice acting / story. Ugh. Wrong. The problem here isn't that the voices are terrible, but it presents itself in a way that seems almost like a saturday morning cartoon. One of the things I loved about the original was the mysterious dreamlike atmosphere. That feeling doesn't really present itself often in this game.

Mission structure / platforming. Though the missions themselves aren't bad, some are even fun, I would give them up in a heartbeat for more flying levels.

Flying levels. This is where Nights veterans need to adjust. No more lapping for the highest score. Since you need the key, blue chips no longer play a significant role exept to extend link chains. A large portion is one's score is based on time, where larger link chains give better time bonuses. So generally, an area should be completed within 2 laps for a decent score. Link items are also much more spread out, you will need to make generous use of the the rocket mask to make it to the next group of rings/chips before the chain breaks. Still very fun, just takes getting used to the scoring.

Flying Controls. A bit off. I can't place my finger on what the problem is exactly, but when flipping between this game and the original last night, I felt a noticable difference in responsiveness. Maybe its the notches in the nunchuck, or that my thumb keeps slipping off the stick. The remote only "Mindsight" controls feel completely broken at first. I'll try it out some more later, but I wonder they didn't choose a pointer with the sensitivity and control of the Wii menu pointer.

A-life. I like it. There isn't a whole lot to do, except balance the nightmaren/nightopian/mepian population and watch what they do. I like checking on it once in a while to see what they build.

I still have a lot to play through, and I look forward to it. It will have a permanent place in my Wii library.

EDIT:
Oh yea, some more good things.

The graphics during flight look great. The last level especially looks fantastic.

The music is phenomenal. It really fits the Nights world perfectly.
I wish the PS2 NiD port came to the Wii. I love this game!!
I just hope the port comes the US.

It's stuff like this that makes Strell one of my favorite people.

oh man. i just don't know about this game. i love the main gameplay. the side scrolling going through the loops is great. but i dislike everything else. i'm surprised they couldn't pull this one together a little more.

but i do love the main gameplay and i hope i get an oppertunity to play the original.

I loved the last stage. I had this stupid grin on my face the entire time and got the chills when the second part of the music kicked in.

haha, same here. That part was freaking awesome. Made the game worth the buy for me :p.

I have been enjoying this game alot lately. 2 things I have noticed are you don't seem to get more points while doing tricks through rings like you did in the original. Also the worst gameplay is when you turn into a dolphin and are riding on the roller coaster. I think this game is right behind mario and zelda and in front of Metroid Prime 3 right now. Still haven't played zack and wiki or no more heroes though. I wish it would have been delayed so that they could clean up some of the different gameplay elements a bit more, but the main gameplay is awesome. I am going to look into getting an arcade stick for this game because Nintendo's analog sticks aren't up to par with the oldschool nights pad. I like the original more for the fact that getting high scores is much more addicting with the level format and linking combos in the original game is way more fun.

No, you definitely do. It reports the points differently, though. In the original, it would name the move and tell you how many points you got. Now, it just has a different colored score circle appear. You get yellow ones for going through rings and dark (are they purple or blue?) ones for tricks.

It's just different. I didn't quite get the way this one worked until I read Lan_Zer0's post -- I was too caught up in the way the old NiGHTS worked.

The only thing I really can't stomach is the way they pronounce "Ideya", which is way too close to "Idiot" for my tastes.

When is this game going to get a price drop?! >.< This game is the reason I bought a Wii, but after seeing the reviews, I can't bring myself to pay MSRP for it. I'm kicking myself for not getting it when Toys R US had that 20$ off 75.

Dude its at least in the top 7 wii games easily. However I bought a saturn that came with the nights controller, Nights into Dreams, 2 other controllers, and nine other games for 5 dollars more off ebay.
Lets say I could get the game for around 30 or so. Is it worth it?
If you played and liked the original NiGHTS, yes.

Otherwise, maybe.

I wish I could be more specific, but NiGHTS really isn't like anything else. It's quirky and a throwback and has some really irritating things built into it. But it's also imaginative, fun, and will have you both charmed and surprised, even after it irritates you.

I bought it off a CAG for $30. Definitely worth it for me; not so much for him.

I have the saturn one. I think is pretty good overall. I'll probley get the wii one.

It's hard to say whether, you'll like it or not really. It just depends on what kind of person you are, I think, lol. I dunno, I liked it a lot though. For $30, I'd get it though; you can always sell it on eBay and get your $$ back (and a little extra maybe) if you don't like it.

I played a little bit of this. I think I prefer the analog control. With the Wiimote it feels like you're conducting a colorful orchestrated hallucenation.
So, any price drops?
I couldn't find a deal thread for it.
Surely it's destined for the bargain bin, eventually.
So, any price drops?

$40 at Game Crazy, $35 if u can find a used copy.

I was really turned off by the beginning, but I'll give it one last shot before I take my rental back.
I see this game in bargin bins now. What happened SEGA? :(
What store? The cheapest I can find it, is for 30 bucks :/
Most I'd pay is around 20.
