Nintendo buys Monolith
I am pretty sure Namco still owns the Xenosaga IP
Pffft. You and your technicalities.

Post edited. ;)

Let them keep Xenosaga. Yawn. Always good to have a well regarded RPG developer under your belt.

Monolith Soft, not Monolith.

Big difference, I was really confused why Nintendo bought the company that made F.E.A.R.

Had a scare there about them not developing for the PC anymore.
Burn in hell Nintendo. I fucking love Xenosaga more than any other RPG series last generation. Any hope of a new one is gone. :(
Blame Namco, they're the ones who sold it. And if Namco has the Xenosaga IP, they'll make a new one wherever they feel like it with a new developer; if Monolith owns the IP, they'll make a new one on Wii. Or not.

Here's hoping for a new RPG on a Nintendo console that isn't card-based!

Eh... not exactly a company I would have bought.

But I get a feeling Nintendo will be buying up a more companies this time around but probably concentrate on smaller companies.

They already got bought out by WBIE I believe. Jason Hall went to WBIE and then I believe he turned around and bought monolith.

Oh, wait, nevermind.

Isn't the Xenosaga series over anyway with the third one. I remember reading they decided to condense the original plan for 6 games to 3. Anyway, Monolith is going to move on to developing new RPG series anyway. I will be curious on Wii's take on how RPG's play. I'm hoping that Nintendo has them develop a Super-Smash Brothers type of RPG that has all of the Nintendo characters from their many games and some characters from other companies.

Maybe Nintendo was tired of years of lackluster thirdparty support for their home consoles. Now that they are raking in mountains of cash, they can just buy a bunch of third party developers. Then they have to make games for Nintendo consoles. :D

I loved Xenosaga's epic storyline but the gameplay left a lot to be desired. I wonder how great their games will play now that Nintendo has taken them under it's wing.

Is it fair to assume that Rare games have dropped in quality since it is no longer under Nintendo's guidance? Not to say current Rare games are bad, but their N64 games like Goldeneye and Conker's Bad Fur Day could be considered all-time greats while Viva Pinata and PDZ are considered 8/10 games. I know Rare was notorious for delays during the N64 days but I'm not sure if that is because Nintendo kept giving them things to "fix" or if they had no hand in Rare games. Or does Nintendo just leave their 2nd parties alone so they can work their magic on their own?

Either way, I can now expect Xenosaga-like epic storylines in my RPGs with great gameplay (I assume).

Cool I'm glad they have Monolithsoft now...if they can make some good RPGS it might be just want Nintendo needs! But it doesn't nearly make up for Selling RARE!!! Anyway I really think that RARE was awesome with basically all their games for SNES, then to me they fell a bit in the N64 gen...but now I really like some of their games like Kameo...so I think they've hung in their pretty well from all the shifting thats gone on in that company. (Oh ya and now Banjo Kazooie 3 coming "soon", if that game turns out awesome I'd say RARE is just as good as they were in the N64 times xD)

The lack of solid RPGs hurt the GC. This shows, I hope, that Nintendo's console is a viable platform for them this time around. Personally, I think that Xenosaga was done after III came out anyway, wasn't it?

Monolith, if they do one thing right, is put out above average RPGs at above average rates. This isn't a Rare scenario, where stuff trickles out at a slow pace and is really mediocre.

Besides, I'd much rather have a proper Xenogears sequel, FWIW. ;)
Majority stake does not exactly equal buying the whole company, though it is similar.
bloggers fail again
Que?
Our team of translators have discerned from the release that Nintendo now owns 80% of the company's stock, while Namco Bandai still retain 16% of their original 96% holdings in the developer, whose total worth is approximately 75 million yen.
Sounds pretty well explained to me.

Any imbecile has learned by now you don't just read headlines... and it's certainly not bloggers that have popularized the use of slightly misleading headlines.

And your right, it is very similar... which justifies saying "Nintendo buys Monolith Soft" in the headline.

Nintendo now own Monolith Soft in the same way that Namco Bandai used to own Monolith soft.

You could either say "Nintendo buys 80% of Namco Bandai's 96% share in Monolith Soft stock and is now majority share-holder" or you could say "Nintendo buys Monolith Soft". Either way it amounts to the same thing, so you tell me which is the better headline.

Zoglog fails again.

bloggers fail again
You need to really sit down with the members of Joystiq and Kotaku and work out your differences. It's awkward when we want to have a get together and don't know who to invite, you or them, because of all the tension and anger between you.

You're making life very uncomfortable for all of us.

I think Zoglog just needs a puppy.

Wait a minute! You mean OTHER companies can buy up developers too? Honestly, for the way people act around here, you would think EA and Microsoft are the only ones who do it.
