CAGiversary!

Got into the stream a bit late, and ended up watching the Japanese (sub) stream, since it was the furthest ahead and least choppy. Quick list ahead, I believe most of the broadcast was for Wii U:

Start

- Pokemon X/Y (3DS): Fairy-type Pokemon, Mid-Air Battles, Horde Battles

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmywDbnC5oc

Wii U

- Super Mario 3D World: 4 characters (Mario, Luigi, Peach, Blue Toad); choose a character in single-player or play 2-4 player co-op. Cat Suit: Climb up stuff, scratch, pounce.

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwwjcfgTksU

- Mario Kart 8: I guess the big new feature, besides HD, is a hover/anti-grav mode that enables your kart to go up walls, upside-down, etc. This allows the track designs to be pretty crazy, with corkscrews, extended upside-down/sideways segments, quarter/half-pipes, and all kinds of twists.

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NA6CAgv6p6g

- The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker HD

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkVt1s_ZFbw

- Wii Fit U, Wii Party U, Art Academy

- The Wonderful 101

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9ueBmNNGus

- Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze: Donkey, Diddy, and Dixie Kong is playable, along with an unidentified fourth character. Underwater levels are back.

ND Footage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5aXZixLaMk

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DueE8vJXpo8

- X: More gameplay footage shown; Cities, fields, mech suits, giant monsters

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APWTJMyM4qg

- Bayonetta 2: Gameplay shown. Bayonetta's got a new haircut. 2-player co-op w/ Jeane.

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dFfVBdRWmw

Super Smash Bros. (3DS/Wii U)

- 3DS version cel-shaded, Wii U version more detailed

- New Challengers: Animal Crossing Villager, Mega Man

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvudMu-5kIU

Mega Man Reveal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aX2KNyaoNV4

Not in the Nintendo Direct:

- The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (3DS) Trailer

- A Third new Smash Bros. Character was revealed: the Wii Fit Trainer. She uses the power of Yoga to decimate her enemies. Check out all of the Smash reveals at the newly-reopened Super Smash Bros. Dojo:

- At today's Analyst Briefing, Nintendo confirmed that, in an effort to increase Streetpass usage in the West, wi-fi hotspots at McDonalds and Starbucks will have "Streetpass Relay" functionality added this Fall. What this means is that when you visit one of these locations with your 3DS in sleep mode, your Streetpass is automatically uploaded to a central server and sent to anyone else who visits that location. And of course, you get Streetpasses from anyone else who has visited the location before you. Essentially, it allows people to streetpass without actually having to be there at the same time.

W...t...f... was that..........

protip nintendo we know your not new to this streaming thing so next time can you not massively fuck up.

Wow, that was fucking horrible. Hey you know those games we announced, well here is more footage.

Although X has Gundam Suits so I am excited.

I was looking for info on Nintendo's presentation but couldn't find anything worthwhile... I guess now I know why.

Not much in terms of surprises. WWHD and X are my biggest wants, and Smash Bros. will be nice though we already know what to expect from that. And I can't help but feel that Bayonetta 2 will probably end up going multi-platform.

It appears that Nintendo has absolutely no idea how to utilize an HD system.

I'm excited about 3D Mario, as 3D Land was fantastic, and X looked great, but meh to the rest.

Pretty disappointing.

Loved seeing Smash, though we knew it was coming.  That Megaman music was awesome.

Otherwise, I'm gonna have to see reviews for Wonderful 101 and X.

Mario 3D World looked okay, but, I would've preferred a more traditional 3D offersing (64/Sunshine/Galaxy).

I wish they had the demo units a little closer to me.

As far as expectations go, I think they appropriately set them low by doing a Nintendo Direct as opposed to a big showcase presentation. That said, I dug what I could see (can't watch the video at work).

I think I would be slightly disappointed to learn that Rare has been working on a sequel as opposed to something brand new, but then I loved that game, so more is good.

Mario Kart 8 and Smash are no brainers for me.

Mario 3D World, I think, looks slightly disappointing if only because the focus at this point is on the multiplayer aspect. So, for me all the screenshots of simultaneous, tandem sliding and such makes it look more like a Mario Party title than a true Mario platformer. I'm sure it plays great though.

Buying: Zelda Wind Waker, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Super Smash Brow (both), Bayonetta 2, Rayman Legends, X, Yoshi's New Story, New Super Luigi U, Super Mario 3D World, Pokemon X and/or Y, Zelda Link Between Worlds, X, Mario Kart 8, and The Wonderful 101.

Well done, Nintendo. My wallet hurts.

So the Best Buy demos are Super Mario 3D World, Wind Waker HD, Mario Kart 8, DKC Tropical Freeze? That sounds pretty good to me. I'll definitely take my kids and check these out.

Wait, where are all the new and unannounced games that folks here said would be announced and released this Christmas? From what I see the only game that might sell systems and is actually released this year is Mario 3d. So what, now just wait until next NEXT Christmas???

Gametrailers has a Nintendo hour at 2 est with Reggie and Miyamoto. Hopefully something is going to be revealed.
Cool, thanks... GT was decent for me during the Sony presser, so hopefully it works well here.

I really hope Nintendo has some third party support. As of right now, it's mostly all Nintendo games.

Very impressed with Nintendo today. Mario Kart 8 looked amazing, so did Super Mario 3D World and X, even Bayonetta looked pretty crazy.

I'm actually considering a Wii U purchase for pretty much the first time ever.

Uh It can't be multi-platform Nintendo is publishing it. If it wasn't for them there would be no Bayonetta 2. I'm excited but I guess I was hoping for more surprises. Don't see a ton I must have this year probably Mario & Wonderful101 rest of my gaming budget going for PS4 probably.

I don't get why people are so upset?  They said they wouldn't show much new and they revealed their hand before E3, long before it, in fact.

X looked great, but I get the feeling it's a long way away.

Mario Kart 8, for me, came out of nowhere, as my biggest surprise.

On the flipside, Mario 3D World...looks kinda odd, visually.  It's like the evolved the graphics from Sunshine.

And then there's Smash Bros.  Villager looks OP...and Mega Man.  I hope the game isn't cancelled soon.

Hmm, not a whole lot there to be excited about.  Most was expected.

...And did anybody ask for a new look for Bayonetta?  I was okay with her prior look...

I don't really understand the demos at certain stores either.  This was fine when they were trying to build

steam for the system sales (prior to launch).  Now, I'd rather sit at home, instead of fighting the crowds to

play these.

Oh, I didn't know that Nintendo was publishing it... I thought they paid for exclusivity or something. Doesn't seem like their type of game honestly.:whistle2:S

Mario Kart 8 looks great. I'm glad they aren't rushing it out this year. I don't mind waiting until 2014 with it.

Super Mario 3D World was unexpected. I would be super excited if it was a 3DS game instead. It will probably be a great game but it doesn't look like it will push the Wii-U.

X is looks hot but 2014 looks a little too close for me.

DKC looks great with Dixie. I just wished Retro had something else in the bag.

Smash Bros  with Mega Man is super cool.

I never played Wind Waker so I'm excited for the HD edition but they aren't giving too many details.

Overall, I think if Nintendo had one extra game announcement, then everyone would've been a lot more excited. (Star Fox!!!)

Even though I'm still a ways off from getting a Wii U, still happy from what I saw in the trailers.  I know that a DKCR sequel isn't blowing any minds, but still my favorite of the bunch since I loved the first one.  Swimming + Dixie + same quality level design makes for a great game to me.

By the way, it is just me, or does Mario seem sluggish (without the cat suit) in SM3DW?  Maybe to make the multiplayer less chaotic? Or perhaps just to emphasis Toad's faster speed (with his stubby legs, doesn't make much sense)?  I do love the retro styled player icons in the upper left corner though, not to mention making Peach playable again and reviving their unique attributes.

Everybody take a deep breath. The Fit and Party installations are on their way. N's got this in the bag.
Nonsense. Those games were supposed to be out already. Now they're blowing six months to add the pedometer, which I'm not even going to use. I just want a $400 scale, is that too much to ask?

Nintendo is playing it safe. They focused on their big, established franchises. With the Wii U hardware sales flagging, they need to double-down on the proven system sellers. Mario Kart, Super Mario World, and Smash Brothers all fit that bill. It's a little sad that we aren't seeing some more experimental titles, but this is a consequence of the times.

The Wii U is not the Wii. It isn't going to get overwhelming sales just due to the nature of the system itself. So Nintendo is opting to lean on their big first-party guns.

LOL Wii Fit trainers are in Smash Bros. I might actually play this game
That's their big annoucement? Wow... Nintendo is really losing it. I just wasted 40 minutes...

Reggie was getting destroyed by Geoff from GT. He simply couldn't answer any questions about lack of third party support and lack of certain genres, just "we have lots of 1st party games! Smash Bros!".

Wow, what a pathetic showing. I don't dislike Donkey Kong, I was just hoping that Rare would've gotten their chance at their own IP. They've certainly deserved it.

But at least there's Smash...

Retro had a choice to do either Metroid or DK, but they felt they still had business left with DK, so they went with that.

Oh my God, this was just sad.  I really feel like Nintnedo doesn't know how to make good Nintendo games anymore.  Mario looks awful, everything was mediocre and rehashed.  No surprises.  Nothing coming out this year that looks good.  Wind Waker HD graphics look very poor IMO, blown out highlights and bloom all over the place.  Most games not coming until 2014.  What the Hell has Nintendo been doing for the past 3-4 years?

How is the Wii U going to compete with the cheaper, and much more impressive libraries of the PS3 and Xbox 360?  How will the Wii U get noticed when the systems that have a noticable next-gen jump in graphical quality & features come out very soon?  Espcially when the PS4 is only $50 more than a "Deluxe" Wii U right now.

Sure, Nintendo can (and needs to) drop the Wii U's price, but honstly there's still no games!  I can't believe this, they are a company exsisting in a bubble.

Looks like I am going to hold off on buying a Wii U until Smash Bros comes out.  The "new" Mario game is just a rehash of what they have been doing the past few years.  If it was in the vein of Galaxy I would have bought a system for it.  Mario Kart lost its appeal to me with the introduction of blue shells.  Wind Waker HD looked good but not enough to sell me on a system, unless if it comes with a special Zelda branded Wii U.  Donkey Kong Country looked interesting but not a system seller for me.  I'm sure I will be burned at the stake for this but I thought Bayonetta was a pretty subpar game and I expect it to be a subpar game on the Wii U and the only reason it is getting so much hype is because of the severe lack of decent third party games.

Good choice honestly, give Retro Studios more 2D experience, then create the 2D Metroid masterpiece. I know people out there are waiting for another Prime, and 2D has been getting overdone for some time now, but a proper 2D (or even a better stab at 2.5D) Metroid needs to happen again.

Nintendo will listen sooner or later with another Star Fox entry, which I think would be the next logical step IP wise. I think they have chummed the waters with both F-Zero Wii U eShop and F-Zero X CN rewards releases to gauge the actual interest in that series, I doubt it's as popular (or as marketable) as Star Fox.

Also I just found out they are remaking the original Oddworld, that was another highlight for me.

Wii Fit Trainer Weighs In!

Absolutely rediculous.

I love it.

. . .

I think.

I wasn't going to buy a Wii U then I thought I would eventually since I can transfer my wii downloads over and because Xbox One is a pile of shit. Then PS4 was announced only $50 more without all the DRM on the X1. So then I think, PS4 and Wii U. THEN Nintendo does this. Now we know why they cancelled the press conference. Looks like everyone was right - they didnt have anything to show.

I'm sorry but putting out maybe 20 or 25 games a year isn't enough. It's going to take the entire console generation to have as many games as X1 and PS4 have in a single year. Maybe I'll still get it....in 5 years. Or sooner if it drops a couple hundred dollars and cones out with a lot of good stuff. I have backlogs on current gen systems and they need to do a hell of a lot better than this to convince me to buy this now instead of sticking to the backlog.

You should really attend to that backlog. If you want third parties, then you should definitely get a PS4 instead. But if you enjoy Nintendo first party, then they're the only game in town. Personally, 20-25 games a year is more than I have time for.

Agreed, and I'd say that number is being generous. Especially if we're talking quality, must-buy games.
I basically meant good games, not all the games I'll buy. I don't buy every good game. I hate smash bros but others rave about it for example but I would include that. When you have 150-200 games a year on one of the other consoles you can easily find plenty of titles you want. At 20-25 a year you may not get anything released that interests you in a given year. Might as well wait for the catalog to build.
