I've been looking for a good deal on the Nintendo DSi for a while and I've been wondering if I should just wait for the 3DS to be released and hope for a price drop.

You probably wont see any deals on a DSi until Black Friday or Until months after the 3DS has been released
The 3DS is not going to have a price drop for at least 3 years (that's how long it took for the Wii) Seeing as people are going bat-shit crazy for the 3DS it might even take longer than that.
I'd say just buy a 3DS it's ony 100 more unless you can wait it out a couple years, but even if you do wait it out it would only be about $50 less and by then the excitement of 3D games will have worn out and it would just be considered the norm.

If you're absolutely going to get the 3DS eventually, it makes more sense to buy the 3DS than to buy a DSi now and wait for a price drop. The value of the DSi is likely to drop just as fast as the value of the 3DS, if not faster. So, by the time you're able to get a 3DS for $50 cheaper, you're also getting $50 less from selling your DSi. Might as well buy the 3DS now and enjoy the games that'll come out for it.
