Yeah, I was thinking that as well, but I also think they may try to clear out all their 2DS/3DS stock before adding an NS mini, or they will need to price drop those units as well. No way the N3DS XL continues to sell for $200 along side an NS mini for the same price.

I could also see them announcing it later in the year, as they don't want to announce a system that early, that could kill potential sells of the NS or the 3DS line of systems. They often make announcements for revisions a short time before being offered, and that's a good strategy to have.

 
Hard West is pretty freaking good on Switch if anyone was wondering. Runs well. It is a good turn based strategy game in the vein of Xcom / Jagged Alliance / Fallout Tactics etc.

Difficulty is fully customizable.

Good to know. I was definitely intrigued when I saw it up for preorder. Reviews for the PC version from a few years ago were aight, but I thought I read that they made tweaks/revisions for switch (don't quote me on that). I'll keep an eye on it. Pre-order discount is gone now (obviously)

Glad to see Mecho Wars discounted.  For reference this is a solid Advance Wars clone.  It's been around for ages on iOS then got updated and eventually ported to most everything.   I wouldn't be surprised if it's $1 before too long but for $2... it's a solid deal for anyone that's a fan of AW and doesn't already own this on multiple other platforms.

Glad to see Mecho Wars discounted. For reference this is a solid Advance Wars clone. It's been around for ages on iOS then got updated and eventually ported to most everything. I wouldn't be surprised if it's $1 before too long but for $2... it's a solid deal for anyone that's a fan of AW and doesn't already own this on multiple other platforms.

As someone who actually really likes Labo, I totally understand the skepticism. It’s hard to grok the fun of it until you’ve actually put something together, but I think there are two main hooks going on with it:
1. It really draws on the Intelligent Systems/R&D1 tradition of games that feel “toyetic.” Think of the WarioWare series, in particular: the little one-off “toys” you could unlock, and the gyro sensor in Twisted. Like those past titles, this is a Nintendo game that really wants to give you the tangible feeling of playing with an interesting toy, only even more tangible because that’s literally what you’re doing.
2. Legos. This should be obvious, but it wasn’t until I actually sat down and built something that it hit me: “oh, duh, this is the same kind of fun as assembling a Lego set.”

Admittedly, I have kids, and their interest was my justification in picking up a Labo set. But put in the context of how much Lego sets usually cost, I think the Variety Kit in particular is priced reasonably, given the experience. The software is really robust, you’re getting five different builds, each of which can take a few hours.

It’s not for everyone, obviously, but it’s a unique experience that has that Nintendo level of polish, and if you’re into stuff like Legos, it’s definitely worth a try at the $40 sale price they’ve been going for lately.
 
My kids put hours in to the kabo house.

Its fun to build stuff and the included software has a lot of neat things to do. Its a good creative toy that gives simple nudges but lets the person experiencing it fill in a lot of the rest.

We have the labo vehicle kit too and that looks like a much more fleshed out piece of software.

Honestly, it's a novel idea, and cool in some ways, but like most things "N", it's way over priced in my opinion. The games that come with these sets are tech demos at best, and should be $20 and the cardboard should be no more than that as well, so $40 is a good amount for these.

My son has gotten the first variety set, as well as the most recent vehicle one, and he likes putting this stuff together. Sadly, once he's done, he doesn't play with it much past that stage, as the games just aren't all that interesting. Now, I'm not saying it's bad, just cost to much for what your getting.

Comparing this to something like Lego is a bad comparison, as a creative kid or adult, can take the same amount of Lego's and create hundreds of ideas and concepts. Labo can't be built any other way than it's designed, and once the basic interaction is over, so is the interest, at least for my son. I see these sets pretty regularly for $40, and there's a reason for that, as that's about what it's worth.

 
I am curious how Labo is doing for Nintendo revenue wise. I find it hard to believe that in this day and age in video games, where making a little bit of money is fine with share holders, that Nintendo is doing well with Labo. Again I don't know the revenue numbers behind Labo, but off the top of the head, I don't see this project going much further for Nintendo.

Yea, especially if it is not compatible with the rumored switch mini, which is targeted to this age group.
 
I only picked up the Labo Kits once they dropped to $40 and then stacked my GCU for $32 bucks. At this point though I'm not sure I'll put them together and will just hang onto them.  I do want the VR set though and since they were smart in splitting it up, I can "double dip".

 
Is the switch + $35 eshop bundle limited? Seems so, as it's not available at some retailers online anymore, but if I find one in store on Sunday, does that mean I can double dip on promotions?

I think the fine print says something Ike “select systems.” I doubt it but it’s totslly be worth a try.

I recently got the urge to play Odyssey again and was gonna look for eshop credit. Then I saw this! Save $20 by waiting a couple days?? Totally worth it!

Actually you want to buy it off the eshop.. when you put the code in you get the gold coins as if you paid full retail 😉
Buy it on eshop for $40.. you get gold coins for $40, not $60.

Good point.

However, that's $3 of coins (retailer code) versus $2 of coins (eShop direct purchase). You may be able to do better by buying discounted eShop credit (10-20% range) than discounted retailer gift cards (3-10% range).

yeah you'd save more buying discounted eShop codes off Raise to buy them with than the $1 extra worth of coins (per a game)

 
Anyone know if you can purchase Wii U games on the eShop even if you don't have the space available to download the game at exactly that moment?  I'm interested in buying Letter Quest, but I haven't purchased an external hard drive yet.

Thanks, awp. As usual, I'm behind the curve. I dragged my Wii U out of its case, and I've been trying games that I downloaded several years ago and started playing the discs again. When I looked at this week's sales, I said to myself, "Damn, that's a cheap price!" So, I will probably pick up an eShop card this weekend.

 
I think the Eshop coins would be more than buying retail for a game that is more than a year old. Year old games you can not claim any gold points if you buy them physical. Right?

Edit: sale isn’t physical. But does year old apply to all retail?

Since they don't say eShop I doubt these games will have a one-day sale. I wonder if the store can handle it, I've never seen a one-day sale on eShop before. Seems to cycle in weekly increments.

Don't think I've tested this myself but I believe their phrasing is that only the gold coins offer from physical games expires a year after the game's release. I think the distinction was called out at the time of the new policy that buying off eShop would never have the gold coins offer expire, and redeeming a digital code from a retail store is essentially the same as buying off eShop.

As far as I can tell, physical gold coin redemption does expire 1 year after release, digital never does.

And yes, you can double dip. Physical, then buy digital later.
 
Thinking of picking up Mario Kart this weekend with the sale...any one play it with a 3 year old? I’ve watched my son try and play LEGO city and drive in that and it’s not fun. Worried it’ll be the same issues. He can handle using Cappy in odyssey but that’s about all.
