Tetris 99 is great.  Finished 2nd once.  Might've had a shot if my cant didn't decide to get up in my face at the very end.  I maybe shouldn't play it while lying in bed.  But my favorite part was destroying the 10 people simultaneously targeting me in a later game.

So... went to bestbuy.com to look at my final pre-order options with GCU before it expires.

Links awakening is already up for pre-order..... $59.99!

Everything that was announced today is up for pre-order now, and all at $59.99 so possible thats just a place holder amount.

Unfortunately no rune factory 4 special or dragon quest builders 2 up for preorder... but I got everything else I wanted before my gcu expires tonight.

I am sure some folks will complain about Link’s awakening at $60 but even for a GB it was a fully featured Zelda made by the LttP team. As well they are fully remaking it so I think them asking full price for a full Zelda game is fair. Hopefully we hear more about it and find out any new stuff that is added as well.

I thought the direct was perfect. They showed that there is a lot of atuff coming in Summer. I kind of wish we’d gotten more info or other games coming between now and June though as well.

There are still so many games rumored to exist that we know nothing about. They could probably fill another 35 min direct in 2 months with more games. I already have too much to play as is so its not like I can play half of these.

Astral Chain looks slick and I am hoping Platinum pulls together another great one.

Zelda botw-50-150+ hours. $60
Links awakening-16 hours $60

I’m betting that’s a placeholder price, but anything over $30... and I’m out. And at $30 I’ll still probably wait for a sale.

Granted these are howlongtobeat times, and we don’t know what they have added, if anything, to the remake.

People can beat BotW in under an hour.

Price per hour arguments for and against games are silly, always have been.

Man that the new hollow knight games looks amazing. I wish there was a release date.

I wonder why that announcement wasn't in the direct. I feel like it would of been a win-win for both Team Cherry and Nintendo. Arguably, that game is a bigger announcement than anything in the direct considering the original hollow knight was GOTY for many and widely considered the best metroidvania ever.

The main stuff from the direct that I am most interested in...

BoxBoy! + BoxGirl! - Fantastic series, will 100% buy this.

Bloodstained Ritual of the Night - Not exactly news that it's coming, but it looked like a solid Castlevania.  Prior to this video I was a bit on the fence because the game looked so generic in it's earlier forms.  I'm 90% sure I'll buy this.

Astral Chain - Thought this might be a Monolith game at first.  Am near 100% planning to get this based solely on the one video.  This is my kind of action game.

Dragon Quest XI S - I'll buy it... this is the version I've waited for... 100% purchase for sure.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 - An easy buy for me as well.  Glad this got confirmed and dated.

Honorable mentions:

Super Mario Maker 2 - My oldest kid already was asking me if I'd get this... 100% chance I'll buy it.. though not sure how much I'll play it as I barely touched the first game on WiiU... which isn't saying much as I only played a few games on the WiiU thus far.

The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening - I've beat this a few times.  Honestly I loved this more than ALTTP.  Still, I have the original version boxed and the 3DS digital DX version... not sure I want to buy it again even though it's a fantastic game.  I might skip this or wait for a sale.

Daemon X Machina - Plan to play the demo ... downloaded it last night.  It could be an easy buy... just not sold on it yet

GRID Autosport - next time I have my PS3 setup, I'll download this and give it a play.... I might be interested in buying the Switch version since it has all the content.

Overall, I was pleased with the direct.

By cheating.

So if botw was $71000 price isn’t an issue for you?
People can complain about the remakes of donkey Kong and new super Mario bros deluxe being $60... but mention Zelda and its worth it at whatever price N sets.
Watched a few videos on the direct yesterday, all said the same thing. Great idea in porting the game over, not so great reactions to the art style. Everyone was expecting a different Zelda remake also.

OMG. I can feel my wrist tendonitis flare up just watching this. So exciting. I've put many many hours into Hollow Knight and really wanted a sequel. Can't wait!

No one is saying that, don't assume or put words in anyone's mouth. The comparison to BOTW isn't valid, most Zelda games can be beaten pretty quickly. 16 hours is a full fledged game by any means regardless of franchise. It just happens to be a remake of a 25 year old game. This isn't some cheap cash in.

Again comparing to the ports of SMU and DKTF aren't valid because again those were different beasts and yes they deserved criticism because they didn't offer that much new for the full price tag.

Look at most full remasters/remakes they tend to cost about the same as a regular game. They take normal development. This isn't an uprezzed GB game in 2d. Whether you like the artstyle or not can be argued and that's fine, but the automatic assumption that it should be cheaper by proxy of being a remake is silly.

I guess the recent RE2 should of only been $30 too?

I’m pretty sure you can get in under an hour just going to the castle without cheating, but I’m not into that scene.

They can price games however they please, I just wouldn’t buy it at $71,000. The games you mentioned are port, and certainly less work went into those $60 games, so I do feel they should have been less, but oh well. I still have my Wii U, so I haven’t bought those. As for Link’s Awakening, that’s from the ground up remake, and I feel this at least has more reason to be priced at $60 than the Donkey Kong game where they just had to get it running on Switch and then add in Funky Kong.

What I was originally getting at is this 16-hour Zelda game that was built from scratch (working from base blueprints from the Game Boy version) has every right to be priced at $60 when there are tons of single player games from the past, present, and future that take less than 10 hours to beat and are priced at the baseline full-price of the time. This shouldn’t be forced to compare with BotW, when there was no Zelda game before BotW that was as huge and sprawling. And besides, I’m old enough now that I say f*** off to long games, which is partially why I have such a disdain for measuring games by price per hour.

Yeah, Link's Awakening will for sure be a $60 title, as that's just how "N" operates, if anyone doesn't know that by now, you haven't been paying attention. LOL

If this was a slight redo of the original for the e-shop or something, $30-$40 may have been doable, but being completely reworked and pretty much a new game from the ground up, no way its under full retail. Hell, they charge $60 for ported games from past systems, so why would this be cheaper just because of age, or the system it was originally offered for?

I think they could have put Link's Awakening on 3DS too. They said they still plan to support it, and the game isn't powerful enough that it wasn't an option. Maybe have the Switch version for $50 and 3DS for $40.

You guys think it is worth it to go full digital on Switch?  Main reason I haven't yet is because I still have GCU, but I am wondering if I should.

It's convenient, but you'll have to spring a lot more money for storage than for the non portable systems. The fact that digital isn't taxed in my state, along with the gold coins, and discounts on eshop currency gives at least some discount as well.

I’m glad Nintendo is charging $60 for the remake, it means I won’t feel even the slightest temptation to buy it even on sale.
Sadly thats the only thing that gets me, we now know it at most will be like $50 on sale once in its life, so we might as well pay full. Good thing I still have GCU

Yeah, I think it's a safe bet to say it probably started life on the 3DS, and due to standard slow development, "N" just decided to make it NS exclusive(more money to be made). By the time this releases, the 3DS will be at deaths door, and I'm sure the NS mini/lite or whatever will be coming along to replace it this holiday, or spring of 2020. The most they could have charged on the 3DS would have been $40, and now, they can get $60, so it's not hard to see why it was offered on the NS only at this point.

It's my favorite Zelda title, and no way I'm paying that amount, but that's also one of the reason I don't own an NS, as I find most games over priced(as well as the system). It's a great game, and will sell well no matter if some of us wait on cheaper options or not. It looks great, and I'm glad it's getting an upgrade, but so long as "N" charges $60 for games, and people pay it, they will continue to do so.

I am very happy with going digital. I have been practicing only having one cartridge at a time. So I never have to switch game cartridges until I sell or trade in the single cartridge.

I will say going all digital costs more, but I never feel pressured to buy games that are sale, because I can always buy them later. Saving $20 on a sale of a physical game is meaningless if I spent $40 and never played the game, whereas with physical I always convinced myself I could sell it sealed or trade it in during a GameStop deal. Now without that option I don't stress about deals and focus on the games I want to currently play.

Since switching to digital I play more of my games, too, because switching between games is so easy. One level of DKCTF, followed by a couple Smash rounds, ending with a SMBU Deluxe level is easy to do.

I bought a 400GB micro SD during black Friday week for $75 (price matched Amazon to Best Buy), so it didn't cost too much for a ton of space.

Finally feeling tempted to pick up a switch but just did some research and found that Nintendo still doesn't offer true game sharing like MS/Xbox? What the crap is this?

We are a family full of gamers here and ever since game sharing became a thing it has saved me a lot of money and stress.

I would happily buy two consoles for my kids if they would allow game sharing.

Also wish they would allow us to play wii/u games on switch. I mean even if they put out a new dock with a dvd player and I could only play my wii-u games on the tv that would be FINE.

It kind of does game sharing

Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced as a sequel. More details in that post.

Holy cow I am so pumped for this. They also put out a 20 min developer video talking about it. Super charming watching these 2 dudes talking about a game they clearly love. It's a Switch console exclusive at launch - no waiting.

Also all backers of the original Hollow Knight GET THIS GAME FOR FREE on platform of their choice. WTF?! I never imagined in 2019 I would be so upset at a developer refusing to let me give them my money. Absolutely incredible dudes.

It's easy to share physical carts. As noted by oldcasio above, there is some digital game sharing but you need to plan around it and deal with some limitations (needing the secondary system to be online) to get the full benefit.

I have spent years buying two+ copies of all the games my family plays together, now on xbox as long as its digital I only need one copy depending on the title and who all wants to play.

We want to be able to buy a single copy of splattoon or Mario kart and have a kid upstairs and a kid downstairs at the same time.

Blows my mind we cant create a gaming environment like that through Nintendo still.

If they can handle $40 for Link Between Worlds, OoT 3D, and Majora's Mask 3D, there's no reason they should be charging $60 for a Gameboy game.

Buy Pre owned. I've bought six 1st party Nintendo titles with GS b2g1 promo's. I'm going to continue doing that for the most part. I did by Smash new though. I'll also buy Link's Awakening new too. I just love the original so much I'll support it day one.

Those were ports, not remakes. All they had to do was add 3D and make an N64 game work on a 3DS.
I disagree with their original point (I don't think the original platform is relevant to pricing), but they most definitely are remakes. Literally everything in the game was remade, and some things changed.

$40 is the MSRP for 3DS games, $60 is MSRP for switch. You can be upset about the price but it's not a fair comparison.

Yeah, this is one of my main issues with the NS, as it's more of a handheld, that connects to the TV. So this is how they where able to up prices and get away with it, which is fine, as people are paying it in to the millions, just not me. This may be an issue for them if and when a mini/lite comes along to fill the 3DS void. As people looking for a budget friendly system in the $200 and less range, probably isn't going to want to spend $60 on games, when past handhelds had a cap of $40. But I guess people can buy used, and there are many offerings in the lower price range, so maybe not that big of an issue, except for 1st party titles. I'm sure they will also have a few greatest hits titles by then for a discount as well.

When the time comes, that's the plan, as I bought many 3DS carts used, as well as Wii U games for my son, so it's all good.

Uhh you're wrong. Link Between Worlds is a brand new game set in the Link to the Past universe. The other two are most certainly remakes. And if you insist they're ports then the new Link's Awakening is also a port.

Point being, $60 is way too much for what was an original Gameboy game.

While I’ll agree with the general point, weren’t most of the CG assets for OOT/MM reused? I mean, they redid most of the textures, and touched up a lot of the models, but I was under the impression they started with what they already had for most of the graphics. If I haven’t heard incorrectly, I’d call that a remaster, not a remake.

In any event, my take on the matter is that not even ground-up remakes should cost as much as a new game—regardless of the work that goes into updating a title, the design work—including levels, characters, enemies, gameplay, etc.—and writing are already done. A little work in those areas may be necessary, but nowhere near the original amount when the game was new.

Sorry I was on mobile, missed Link Between Worlds, just saw OoT 3D and MM 3D. And if you use inflation calculator, Link’s Awakening cost $52 when it came out in 1993, and that was a few hundred monochrome pixels. This remake is way more pixels and colors. Artists should get paid.

I love how all the posters complaining about the Direct are people I already have on ignore for being trolls. As always, thanks for the updates Frisky. I'm eyeing Rival Megagun this week but I already have Twinkle Star Sprites so I don't really need it.

Also, heads up to everybody who might be looking, it's a pain in the ass to try and get the new Yo Kai game physical. So if you want it and see it somewhere, I'd suggest grabbing it.

Because Nintendo is a business and likes money.

With software you aren't TECHNICALLY paying for anything tangible. You are paying for the rights to use the software. And you want to use it twice at the same time and only want to pay once. Don't be mad at them for wanting to make money off of each copy.
