Now you bring up a point I never thought of, but is still another avenue not discussed or traveled for that matter. How about an NSTV or type device that is only for the TV? As that would offer a cheap alternative to those who don't want to game on the go, and don't need the hardware that requires.
Exactly! $199 with a Pro Controller would be nice. I'd trade in my launch Switch for that in a heartbeat.

I made this same argument for the Wii U at one point, as I just didn't see the need for that tablet 9/10 times, and a TV only unit with a pro controller I thought may have helped move systems and greatly reduce cost. Sadly, "N" threw in the towel rather early, and probably figured it was a lost cause by that point in time.

Yeah, for those of us who don't want to play NS on a TV, there's probably just as many who would rather play there only, so why not offer a device like that? Maybe that's what the pro will be if offered, an exclusive TV only system, with beefier specs, but still $300 or under, due to no screen, joy-cons, etc. As a more spec heavy system seems a better fit for a nice TV experience anyways, where the nicer resolution can be appreciated.

I'd rather the pro be the same overall form factor just with better specs to help push games to all be 1080p.  Upgrade the screen to be 1080p as well and have it extend to where the black border of the bezel is on current models.   Similar to how the N3DS/N3DSXL improved the experience over the standard 3DS.   There's no way I'm going back to just a console or just a handheld when there's a combo unit.   Plus some games require or play better with the touchscreen.   Many of the rhythm games, for instance.

I could see what the Switch was going to be from the start as I was into the Vita and PSTV combo (using PS+ to move saves back and fourth between the console and handheld) as well as own a PSP Go with the Dock & PS3 controller (a very similar experience to the switch, just lower end visuals and only single player).
^THIS WAS 100% ME :applause: Especially when I used to travel more for work. And before the Vita & PSP Go (love that thing) I was using my PC to transfer save files between my GBA flash cart and my modded Xbox! I get that's it's not everybody's ideal system, but for me, the Switch is, like, everything I ever wanted from a game system for the past 15 years.

How about an NSTV or type device that is only for the TV? As that would offer a cheap alternative to those who don't want to game on the go, and don't need the hardware that requires.
Honestly, I love this idea. It might not be for me, but something I loved about the ill-fated PSTV was that it was the perfect entry point back into video games for a lapsed gamer. If it's been 20 years since you owned a console, you could spend $100 and get access to a pretty amazing legacy library of downloadable PSX, PSP and Vita titles, in a tiny, low-power-draw form factor that wouldn't take up any space on an entertainment center. My little brother hasn't owned a game system in 10 years, and there are modern games I think he'd love, but I'm not gonna drop $300 on a birthday present for him. But $100? I could do that to re-introduce the joy of gaming into his life.

I do think it's most likely, tho, that the 2 new units we'll see will be:

-improved guts in the existing form factor for the same $300 price, and...

-current guts stuffed into a simplified plastic shell for $200

It just seems to make the most sense from a manufacturing standpoint: continue your existing orders on the current-spec guts, probably at a lower rate now that they're 2 years older, and make whatever concessions you need to the exterior shell (no detachable controllers, no HD rumble) to get it down to the same $200 that the current New 3DS XL retails for and replace it; while at the same time, maintain your manufacturing lines and tooling for the current exterior shell, but source upgraded innards that will maintain compatibility with all existing games & accessories, but offer slightly increased performance (same CPU family but faster; 1080p screen w/no bezels; beefier battery to power that stuff; more RAM?).

If it's identical to the existing model, but better in every measurable respect, then they can just discontinue the current model and replace it. New purchasers get the best experience, and existing users are tempted to upgrade. Nothing but a win for Nintendo.

I've seen it mentioned a lot as the Switch version of a PSTV. It would be great to not have my Switch randomly fall off of my entertainment center when moving it around or a random cable accidentally getting pulled. It not being this clumsy plastic box that covers up the bottom right corner of my TV screen would also be great.

My switch has had tape on it pretty much since the day I got it. The kickstand went rogue all the time and a few months in the back plastic body got a crack in it. It’s all cosmetic but I would support a more durable model in the future but eh not so much if it’s more expensive.
If the 3DS is any indication of their thoughts on build quality, it's a low priority for them. I'm surprised the few times I've dropped mine that the JoyCons haven't broken off or anything major happened to it, but I guess that's due to not taking it much further than carpeted areas near the TV.

Yoku's has a demo. I played the demo to completion and really didn't find it interesting enough to warrant buying the game (I was looking at the physical option as it was getting cheap on Amazon). Try the demo.

As far as Blossom Tales goes, I think it depends on how much you love classic zelda type games by other devs. If I had to chose to buy one or the other, I'd go with Blossom Tales but that's because Yoku's demo didn't really make me want the full experience and Blossom Tales legit looked awesome in the segments I watched from the video Frisky made.
The funny thing is that I haven't really gotten into the old school Legend of Zelda games whenever I've tried to get through them, as it wasn't until A Link Between Worlds that I played more than a few hours and it's the only game in the series I've beaten. Blossom Tales very much seemed influenced by that game along with the original A Link to the Past.

Yeah, I do see your request being the more serious option for sure, but at the moment, the current NS already exist, to the tune of what, 20 million or so? While "N" is always happy to milk their fan base for another round at the tit, they also have already gotten the bulk of hardcore fan dollars, and the ideas being thrown around now are to get "new" dollars to the NS user base. People like me who want an NS direct for their needs, or those who may double dip who have bought an NS and didn't want to wait, but now realize they don't use one option or the other(TV vs. handheld).

I think most of the hardcore Pro/X/PC crowd prefer to play high-end machines on rather high-end TV'/monitor's, and that's not to say some would'n't like a beefed up handheld ride, but how many would pay $400 for that option(in it's current form factor)? How many more would pay $300 for a TV only NS Pro, that offers a new level of experience different to what can already be had(and by different, I mean form factor)? Let's be honest, a pro anything from "N" is probably going to be in line with a "New" 3DS, as it may offer slight upgrades, but nothing to overboard as to not divide their user base.

I like a lot of what is being discussed, as it's ALL options, and the more options, the more likely someone can get something specific to their own want/needs. I'm sure many here while liking the portable, also never take off the joy-cons, so maybe an actual d-pad is something that person would like, which I'm sure the mini would have(or a TV only option for that matter).

A good d-pad would be nice because not even the Pro Controller has a good d-pad, which is bad for Nintendo to be the only one without a good d-pad on their controller while asking more for it than the others.

Lack of options? Compared to Sony and Microsoft that have done what exactly that would be considered options? Pro models?

I see the Switch has having more options out of the box with the very concept of handheld or docked. I’m not sure I get that statement.
+1
Yeah I have no idea what anyone is talking about, switch debuted as perfectly as could be, no reason to tinker with the console just for a “me too” version tsk tsk Nintendo won’t do it

Yeah, this. The newer Pro controllers are a bit better, but when you play Tetris 99 it's VERY noticeable.

A good d-pad would be nice because not even the Pro Controller has a good d-pad, which is bad for Nintendo to be the only one without a good d-pad on their controller while asking more for it than the others.
The bad D-pad has kept me from buying multiplats on Switch. I bought the likes of Wild Guns, Bloodstained, Mega man Collection. Mega Man X collection, Mega Man 11, Wonderboy, Street Fighter collection ect on PS4 because the launch Switch Pro controller D-pad is awful. The Joy con D-buttons are not good imo either.

I agree!

Also, the release environment of Yoshi's Crafted World seems to mirror the environment Yoshi's Story released in 21 years ago in March 1998. Check out this review from 1998 below. I'm 90% sure the review below will echo the opinion of the current game reviewers in a few weeks for this new Switch game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VMIpTKiYes

Also, if you remember, 1998 had a HUGE gap between first party Nintendo releases. But the wait was worth it because 1998 ended strong with the releases of games like Star Wars: Rouge Squadron, Banjo-Kazooie, Zelda 64, Zelda: Link's Awakening DX for GameBoy Color, and the first USA release of Pokemon Red and Blue! I think 2019 will end VERY strongly with what has been announced so far, along with many new players picking up a Switch and getting all the "old" titles for the Switch.
We're starting to see reviews of Yoshi's Crafted World come out, and so I wanted to repost my comment from a month ago. From what i've seen, many reviews of this game are indeed echoing the tone of this review of Yoshi's Story from 1998. It's fun how history repeats itself!

The game looks great and I'll be picking it up in the future!

Also, if you didn't know, Power rangers: battle for the grid is now available on switch. I'll be picking it up this weekend. This is the first 1vs1 console power rangers fighting game since 1995's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Fighting Edition.

A Robot Named Fight - $6.49 - 50% Off - Ends 4/2
Just wanna give a quick recommendation for this little game, as the unfortunate name doesn't really give any clue as to what it is: a procedurally-generated Super Metroid roguelike. I met and interviewed the developer for my podcast a couple years ago, really nice guy, a Super Metroid speedrunner who worked meticulously to recreate the physics and feel of his favorite game. The "rogue" parts don't quite work out, because there just aren't enough assets to create a sense of variety, but it really is uncanny how much it looks and feels like Super Metroid. Maybe not a full price buy, but definitely worth checking out for half.

The bad D-pad has kept me from buying multiplats on Switch.

...The Joy con D-buttons are not good imo either.
Yeah, I get why they did the "D-button" thing on the left Joy-Con, but there's no excuse for the Pro controller, and just in general, the lack of a proper 1st party D-pad option is frustrating. But here again, I think the modular nature of the Switch saves the day: Hori's cheap left D-pad replacement Joy-Con is excellent. Used it to play all the way through the very demanding platformer "The Messenger" on my work breaks last year, and it never let me down.

By contrast, I loved my Vita, but I seemed to be the only person on the planet who hated its d-pad. On most handhelds, you're stuck with what's built in to the casing, but the Switch gives you options.

Options, people.

Twitch prime members get free year of switch online, but you have to share your Nintendo data with twitch. Does not work for family plan
It's probably worth saying that you don't get a free year of NSO at once, but three months now and can get another nine months in 60 days if your Prime membership has been active for that amount of time.

UPS dropped off Yoshi today and what a surprise it turned out to be, this game is INCREDIBLE
It’s really fun, surprisingly simplistically really cool, and stylistically very enjoyable for NES fans.

Anyone else ?
(I think the switch/flip reverse of the levels was a great twist and idea)

I hate to be that guy but this has gotten way past the deals. And it’s just rumors too!
Dude, we all love you, that goes without saying...AND youre one of us NES heads......so you [do?] know this IS our Nintendo sub forum....the psx and MS guys have a whole lively sub section and we got this all in one jumbled old school message board running thread...... half time is deals, most its discusssion, but no biggie either way as long as were on top of the deals too right?

SO Yoshi anyone?

Does anyone know if Nintendo plans on releasing more physical copies of Yokai Watch 3 for 3DS?  Its only been out a little over a month and its sold out everywhere (retail) online and B&M.  I already have a copy but I'd really like to pick it up as a gift for someone in the next few weeks.  If Nintendo doesn't print more than it would have to be one of their quickest OOP titles ever.  I mean, even Devil's Third on Wii got a reprint and that wasn't exactly the greatest game.  Yokai Watch 3 is pretty awesome by the way, especially if you like the other games in the series.  There is so much to do!!

The preorder for Cytus Alpha for Switch is $44.94 on Amazon at the moment.   No telling how long it'll last.   Also there's a new trailer on youtube showing the new dj max crossover.   This is one game you'll want to play with the touchscreen.  I can't imagine how they'll do buttons any kind of justice.

Good deal if you don't have GCU still. Preordered my copy for $39.99 at BB. Looks like the launch version comes with a CD.

Battle Princess Madelyn is getting a huge update today for those on the fence as it is on sale. It critically reviewed alright but what dragged it down was the story mode which is seeing drastic improvements as well as new modes entirely.

Thank you for the information. I was super interested in the game from the go and the sale price and new content makes this a buy.

Also I am sort of addicted to Tetris 99. What a great little game. I finished top 6 my first game and never came close again to the top ten. I am glad I got a free switch online voucher from Twitch Prime.

The biggest surprise ive had in recent years was the (re)discovery of Nintendo...I played Mario Party for the first time a couple of weeks ago and after playing Yoshi in 2 player mode with my wife last night, I really appreciate what Nintendo is doing/has done in being so creative as to capture the attention of children while enrapturing the imagination of the adult mind - all at the same time, seamlessly....

Or maybe I just really like Mario Party and Yoshi, and I’m pleasantly surprised lol 😝

BTW, did anyone else notice if you get amazon prime, they give you a free year of NES online (pretty sure)

Yeah, I bought the Hori Joy Con with a D-Pad for $20. Problem solved.
