I’m making the final transition to digital this year. I got my filll of 20 Nintendo (Mario cartridges) butnow its time to grow up and let that little cartridge love go and g o digital
Got 2 128gb u3 switch micro SD cards, and two game vouchers and $50 eshop dollars
Eshop sales here we come

And why worry? During a sale, buy a backup for the card? Maybe a cheap 256gb or 512 u1 just for reading/writing backups.....that’ll only run $20 and you keep an archive at home in axe you lose it or the card....

Plus, the cartridges are getting cheapaer and cheaper....not even a. Booklet anymore, just a piece of folded paper, like you can PRINT OUT your cartridge case cover for marvel alliance for 100 points lol!!!!! I can photoshop from amazon for 1 point lol

I do my comics in digital form now and my PC is about 98% digital, but I can't go highly digital on consoles yet. I know it saves physical space, but I love the cartridges especially for the Switch. They are easy to switch out. Now PS4 I may just get the niche titles and do my more AAA purchases digital since they require massive day one patches usually anyway.

Anyone in here doing the gamestop deal that allows you trade your old switch for $225 store credit and then using it towards the new switch? I think I am. I think for the $100 or so dollars more, it is worth the extra battery life, new warranty, and less wear and tear on both the console and controllers. The only thing that I am unsure of is how my data etc will transfer, or better yet, what is the best process of doing it. Any thoughts?

I'd rather wait til they actually upgrade the hardware itself. Otherwise, paying an extra $75 for an extra 2 hours of battery life just seems like a waste of money.

Their other mentioned points push it to being worth the $75. Depending on how much portable use a Switch has gotten, there could be a lot of wear and tear, a used Switch battery is also going to be worst than a brand new battery, so we aren't looking at just 2 extra hours, you're also getting rid of a 2+ year old battery, and you also get a new warranty. People on Youtube have already done tear-downs of the joycons and they are redesigned too, but they weren't sure if the changes would be fixing the drift issue or not. Buying redesigned joycons by themselves would be $75.

I always hate these deals because I want to get the new Switch, take it home, and then transfer my data over to make sure it goes smoothly before actually trading it in.

This is what I’m doing tonight if they have a new one. I have $250+ worth in games for the trade deal, get the new one and do the transfer and come back in a few days to trade in current switch.

Definitely considering it. I've never done a console trade in swap like this before so I have no idea how the transfer process will go. I've read some gamestop's let you do it in store.

Just a FYI if you get a new console you’ll lose your playtime if you care about that kinda thing.

Got a new console, redownloaded enter the gungeon, and now it says “played for the first time x hours ago” despite using the same Nintendo account. I guess they keep all that data stored locally which is a very Nintendo thing to do.

Same here. I mostly play docked and even when I don't the battery last longer than my desire to game. When they finally do make one with a seriously upgraded processor/video/ram ... I'll buy it and keep my original because I have kids and it's also super hackable unlike the new models with the new processors. I won't hack it now, but in 10 years when the switch market is dead and everyone has moved on... it will be a nice upgrade from my PSP-Go.

The battery is actually the same, and ironically it IS the hardware that’s giving the better battery life. The Switch Lite and Switch both have a new Tegra processor that allows better performance, less heat, and some report more stable frame rates and resolution.

Peeled the glass screen protector off the old Switch and put it on the new one.. with a few bubbles. I have a new one coming tomorrow from Amazon.. wasn't even thinking about that part when I decided to take advantage of the trade deal.

And for anyone that is wondering, the transfer is simple. I have 3 accounts on my switch. Main, Mexico and Japan accounts for deals etc. You have to transfer each account one at a time, Main took 15-20 minutes and the other two took maybe 3 each since they dont have any actual data.

I wanted to wait for a "pro" as well but I just know that as soon as this $225 deal ends.. GS will have two price points for Switch trade-ins.

thanks for the info. Would you mind elaborating a bit more? When you say "transfer", did you have to do anything special with your original switch before trading it in to prepare for the new one? Also, did you just go online with the new one and download the online saves etc and that did the trick?

Yes. You can do it in store also, I just didn’t have the time to do it during the day. Like I said earlier I had a bunch of games I traded in to negate most of the cost anyway. I wasn’t sure I was going to just buy the new switch, basically decided yesterday morning before I left for work.
Taking the old switch in tonight.
 
Man is Captain Toad ever going to go on sale in the US? I have been waiting on that and Bayonetta 2. I don't think either have been on sale. Crazy

Makes sense. I always found that annoying as if you are planning to buy a game you cannot buy sale DLC ahead of time. o.x

 
Anyone thinking of taking advantage of the trade in value of the Switch at gamestop, be forewarned: they won't give the extra 25 unless your console is in mint condition. Mine has a few scratches on the back, nothing at all wrong with the screen, but they only offered me the standard 200. Typical gamestop: come up with a good offer then find new ways to invalidate it. Pass.

This is how I've felt about all the Tokyo RPG Factory games. Very clearly budget games yet not priced like them. The graphics are an obvious thing but their menus and UI have always looked pretty cheap (which is a big pet peeve of mine) and there is a lack of voice acting. I don't mind any of that stuff, but I expect more for a $50 game.

It's a shame too because the demo for Oninaki actually hooked me pretty well, found the gameplay surprisingly fun. But not gonna pay that price. Especially with Astral Chain/Iceborne coming out so close to it.

Same. I like their previous games and loved the demo but they are very clearly budget RPGs. They also take forever to go on sale well have to wait for a while for a price drop.

Mecho Wars Desert Ashes is a solid Advance Wars clone. The sort of sequel to it, War Theatre (also on sale for $1) is really a solid continuation of the same formula... though I would say it turns the strategy required up a notch. Both are worth the sale prices easily. The other games by this dev are difficult to recommend where as these two are legitimately good.

Plague Road is not a good game. Very extremely repetitive game that discourages fighting as you get 0 experience for fighting them. Disliked a lot.

 
Well I got the 225 for my old switch. Presently downloading my entire system worth of games again. The transfer was incredibly easy to do and I was able to do it right there in the store.
