20XX is on sale for $9 (50% off), same as on PSN.  Seems like the publisher just randomly decided to put it on sale?  I was going to check their other games for a publisher sale, but it looks like 20XX might be their first/only game.

Anyone tried "Yet another Zombie Defense HD"?   Pretty overused premise but if it's fun for a round here and there for $0.99 I'd be in.

These launch editions always seem to get me. First Killer Queen Black last week and now this. At least I was able to get both at a light discount.

 
If you bought a physical copy of a game because it was cheap but then the shop version goes on sale would you return the game and get the digital one or stick with physical?

I only buy physical cheap at this point, unless it's a "limited" type item, but I'm moving away from that currently as well. So for me, physical always trumps digital, when the price is right. If I get games for pennies on the dollars like PSN over the years, I'm happy to have a digital version of something. But digital has to be way, way less than physical for me to even consider one over the other.

 
I have one of those $5 Best Buy mystery reward certificates.  Looking at Dragon Quest XI on Switch (although I have the PS4 version and am not sure if I want to double-dip) and Super Mario Maker 2 since they are both currently on sale.  Thankfully, I still currently have GCU.  With Black Friday looming, is it better to grab one of these titles for $35 before tax or go with a title not on sale with that $5 rewards certificate (Astral Chain, Fire Emblem, Luigi, etc).  Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance for any advice.

Starlink is a decently fun game. I grabbed a starter kit for under 20 when Target was clearancing it out (though I haven't bought any of the additional content yet)

Out of those games I'd guess Luigi's Mansion would be least likely to get a sale and I'm pretty sure Mario Maker will hit $40 like BotW, SMO, and MK8D did and DQ11 might go even lower. So if you were planing on paying full price to begin with, I'd get Luigi's Mansion.Otherwise, if you plan on waiting for a sale, I'd get Mario Maker since even if it did hit $40, with GCU you'd only save $3.

Pointing out that B2G1 on $60 game is not $48 but is in fact $40. Actually $38 with red card which lots of people have.

You’d have to pay tax on most purchases. And as mentioned earlier if you are paying 20% sales tax you need to fuckin move.

Better graphics? I have the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game, and the graphics seemed to be the only difference. I think that sometimes the publishers just port the games to get them out to a different audience of people who might not have played them the first time around.

Elite Plus has a 45 day return policy at Best Buy. If something appears on sale, purchase it then and return with the older receipt.

Also, most places have a 30 day return policy and Black Friday is on November 29 so we are in the window.

People can always rely on a sale just right around the corner and probably never buy anything.

It's "based" on the UK so there's that. Don't worry, we will get them in the states... in 6+ months included only with a new full price copy making you buy the game again. and Sword will have a different version than Shield... so you will buy them multiple times.

Target in the USA is offering the golden colored Sword/Shield Steelbook with the Dual Pack. So far no USA retailers are offering the individual Sword/Shield edition Steelbooks. There are 3 different Steels for this release set though. You'd need to buy 2 copies of each game to get all 3, or just buy them on eBay.

Now the gripping conculsion:

So today I went by Aldi for some snacks and to see if they had the Pilates Ring. Snacks were easy to find, the pilates ring took me a few minutes because the entire store has been remodeled since the last time I had been in there. Yes, indeed they do have them. There is an isle dedicated to odd non-food items including everything from exercise stuff to blankets and jumper cables. They are $2.99 and found in a box of assorted pilates items all with the same $2.99 price. After messing with ring from Ring Fit Adventure last night, I really kind of want two of these... one for home so the wife and I can pretend Ring Fit Adventure is 2 player... and then another one for when I go walk during my lunch or just to keep in the office. Not sure what the quality would be for $2.99, I opted to just buy one for now.

After checking it out, I think it's pretty dang great quality for $2.99. It looks very similar to all of the ones I was looking at on Amazon except the actual ring has an additional padding like some of the higher priced ones instead of the bare ring. It does include a booklet with a couple of exercises detailed and basic instructions. Is it as great as the one packed with Ring Fit Adventure? I don't think so. It has decent resistance but it's probably a medium strength ring where as the RFA version is a little tougher. The ones on Amazon typically end up being medium resistance as well. Still, $2.99 versus about $18 on amazon for the cheapest decent looking ring... and I was thinking of buying two... so a solid $30 saved on two of them.

So a HUGE... THANKS, goes out to krzysio87 for the heads up.

I wasn't expecting a win here.

Picked up Sabateur II for $0.08 in gold.  I was going to get that at some point anyway because the first game is pretty solid (especially how they expanded it way beyond the original).   I had Mad Age & This Guy on my wish list from a past sale or something... for $0.04 worth of gold coins... sure... done.   I also grabbed Defunct for something like $0.39 gold.  It looked fun.  Preventive Strike for $0.01 gold... yeah, ok... it's not a huge gamble... figure I'll take one for the team.

Not bad at all, spent nothing but gold from my retail purchases or past digital purchases.  Two out of the four I'm interested in seriously playing (Sabateur II & Mad Age)... so not bad at all.

I would recommend anyone buying the penny games to not purchase with gold as you will get at least 1 gold point from any purchase, even a $.01 purchase.

There's a certain point where it doesn't really matter as long as you don't use the gold points for the whole purchase, as items below $0.20 get you one point anyway. So it's probably best to use the points for all but $0.01 of the game's price and you'll get that one gold point. Unless you're hoarding every point for a certain purchase, that is.

The eShop is terrible about telling you how many gold coins you're going to get from a purchase when using points, so this is best done on the webstore and that can't sort by price to make this more of a chore.

Bit on a few on these dirt-cheap games and came away genuinely impressed with some of them!
-Big thumbs up to Mad Age & This Guy! Imagine a classic top-down action puzzler like Adventures of Lolo, but with a just splash of Bomberman thrown in. Impressively well-animated pixel art with a cute steampunk style, felt polished and professional.
-Surprised by how much I enjoyed Saboteur! Always been curious about Spectrum games but never actually taken the plunge, I thought for sure it’d be a curio that hadn’t stood the test of time... but the layout of the rooms and finding your way around is actually really compelling. The action is stiff and clunky, but doesn’t feel unfair on an easy difficulty setting.
-One Strike was pretty cool, even in single player. The action is simple, but I’m hoping it shines in multiplayer. I can think of worse ways to kill half an hour with some friends over for game night.
-After hearing it get a few hearty recommendations here on CAG, I was disappointed by Coffee Crisis. Action felt unresponsive, and with a half-dozen enemy sprites piled on top of me, it was hard to tell if any of my hits, grabs or throws were connecting. Maybe it’s a better time in multiplayer, as brawlers often are?

Anyone else find any diamonds in the rough lately?
